My husband and I are trying to find a name for our little girl, due in [name]July[/name]. Our son’s name is [name]Arlo[/name], and his middle name is the original, Slovakian version of my maiden name. Our last name is long and French/fancy-sounding, which complicates things. We love the name [name]Arlo[/name], and I really want to find something along the same lines–unusual but not weird.
[name]Alice[/name], [name]Corliss[/name] and [name]Rose[/name] are all family names.
We are outdoorsy, writer types. ([name]One[/name] of my favorite girl’s names is [name]Flannery[/name], but that is taken. I really like [name]Tallulah[/name], but my husband, who is a whitewater kayaker, has ruled it out, since he has never kayaked the [name]Tallulah[/name]. My husband loves [name]Katherine[/name], which is a fine name; it’s just not for me, though I could handle it as a middle.)
Oh I adore [name]Arlo[/name] so much, but my partner vetoed it! His sister needs an equally fabulous name
I absolutely love love love, [name]Magnolia[/name], [name]June[/name] and [name]Alice[/name]. [name]Alice[/name] and [name]Arlo[/name] may be a little matchy but I do still love it. I honestly don’t know if I could pick between these 3 days, but at a push I’d go with [name]June[/name]. [name]Arlo[/name] and [name]June[/name] are really sweet together. [name]Arlo[/name] and [name]Magnolia[/name] sound super stylish though! Hmm, tough call!
[name]Rose[/name] is nice too. [name]Arlo[/name] and [name]Rose[/name] are a nice match, but it doesn’t wow me as much as the above 3 names.
[name]Emerson[/name] seems a little trendy/unisex etc. Not as stylish as [name]Arlo[/name] to me. [name]Zora[/name] is not my cup of tea sorry, the sound feels harsh. I do like [name]Nora[/name] or [name]Cora[/name] though. I’ve never loved [name]Ruby[/name] to be totally honest, and it’s the number 1 or 2 name in [name]Wales[/name], where I live, so I’m very bored of it. That’s not the case in [name]America[/name] though so I could understand you liking it. It’s still not my favourite popularity aside though.
[name]Arlo[/name] and [name]June[/name] [name]Alice[/name]
[name]Arlo[/name] and [name]Magnolia[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
[name]Arlo[/name] and [name]Rose[/name] [name]Magnolia[/name]
[name]Arlo[/name] and [name]Alice[/name]
1 [name]Arlo[/name] and [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Elise[/name] (or [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Alice[/name])
2 [name]Arlo[/name] and [name]June[/name] [name]Corliss[/name]
I love [name]Ruby[/name] with [name]Arlo[/name] as they share a spunky vibe and I like the vintage [name]June[/name] because [name]Arlo[/name] and [name]June[/name] would make an adorable sibling duo! I love [name]Alice[/name] but not as a first name with [name]Arlo[/name] (it would be ok in the middle). I couldn’t help but notice that [name]Rose[/name] and [name]Magnolia[/name] both have prominent “o” sounds like [name]Arlo[/name] and I think that’s the reason I don’t like them as much for first names.
We’ve decide on [name]Arlo[/name] for a boy too! We choosing between [name]Romy[/name], [name]Tova[/name], [name]Roxy[/name] and [name]Polly[/name]-[name]Jean[/name] for a girl ([name]Polly[/name]-[name]Jean[/name] after PJ [name]Harvey[/name] my fave musician!).
My first thought, before I had finished your post, was [name]Ruby[/name]. [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Katherine[/name] could be really sweet. I also really love [name]Rose[/name] from your list. [name]Rose[/name] [name]Tallulah[/name] would be amazing! Anyway, here are some other random ideas:
[name]Arlo[/name] and [name]Isla[/name]
[name]Arlo[/name] and [name]Willa[/name]

[name]Greer[/name]
[name]Chandler[/name]
[name]Hadley[/name]
[name]Millay[/name]
[name]Mira[/name]
I love [name]Arlo[/name]. Was my first choice for a boy, but is kind of rhymey with our last name, so got nixed.
Out of your choices:
[name]Love[/name]:
[name]Magnolia[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
[name]Ruby[/name] [name]Elise[/name]
[name]Zora[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
[name]June[/name] [name]Corliss[/name] ([name]Juniper[/name]??)
I think our naming styles may be similar. (We are also outdoorsy creative types). [name]Feel[/name] free to check out my list, called “Veggie [name]Baby[/name]” if you want to see all of the names we’re considering. But anyway, here are a few girl names that I think would match [name]Arlo[/name].
Thank you all for your advice! I just now found my login information, so that’s why it has taken me so long to respond–but I certainly appreciated all the comments. We have, perhaps, decided on [name]River[/name] [name]Alise[/name] for our little girl, which was not even on our list when I last wrote. Not to be too cutesy but my husband is a whitewater kayaker, so rivers are special to him. Plus, we just love the name. [name]Alise[/name] is a variant on [name]Alice[/name], which is an homage to the woman who raised my husband’s father. As I may have said before, our last name is [name]Chevalier[/name]. [name]Magnolia[/name] was our front-runner up until this point, but it always seemed a little too much of a mouthful with [name]Chevalier[/name]. [name]River[/name] [name]Chevalier[/name] seems pretty manageable, and I think it goes well with our son’s name, [name]Arlo[/name]. What do you all think?
Also, do you think people will have difficulty understanding that the pronunciation of [name]Alise[/name] is more like [name]Elise[/name] than [name]Alice[/name]?
