I’m not the biggest fan of [name_f]Violet[/name_f] unfortunately. It reminds me of the awful [name_f]Violet[/name_f] Beauregarde from [name_m]Willy[/name_m] Wonka, and it’s too popular now in the UK (top 100). And part of the appeal to the “violet flower” names is that my favourite flower is hydrangeas.
Thanks for the vote for [name_f]Iolanthe[/name_f], it’s certainly the ‘softest’ looking of the group I think.
I picked [name_f]Yolanda[/name_f] because it’s the only one I can pronounce confidently. One of my managers also has the name and she goes by [name_f]Yo[/name_f] for short, which I think is cool.
Thanks @moondreams. [name_f]Yolanda[/name_f] is the most intuitive to pronounce for me too. I know two Yolandas (one is a toddler, the other in her 20s) and both go by the nickname [name_f]Yoli[/name_f] which I loooooooooove. <3
Oh, that’s cute. I have a friend called [name_f]Iona[/name_f] (eye-own-uh) though so I think I’d struggle with the ee-oh-nee pronunciation - I’d always look at it and want to say eye-oh-nee!
Thanks @lunarpixie! I have a gorgeous [name_f]Iolanthe[/name_f] combo that I am in [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] with, but I wanted to get some thoughts on which variation people liked the most before I put it top of the girls list.
[name_f]Iolanthe[/name_f] is my favorite and I think it looks the most beautiful on the paper. But I also adore the suggestion of [name_f]Ianthe[/name_f]! So pretty.
Would it be too much of a stretch to have a daughter called [name_f]Iolanthe[/name_f] (eye-oh-LAN-thee or ee-oh-LAN-thee) and the nickname [name_f]Yoli[/name_f] even though her full name wouldn’t be pronounced yo-LAN-thee?
If you haven’t guessed, I really love the nn [name_f]Yoli[/name_f].
I love the spelling [name_f]Iolanthe[/name_f] but (having never seen it before) would have (mis-)pronounced it yo-LANth or eye-oh-LANth, assuming a silent e. But maybe that’s just because I saw it in the list with all the [name_f]Yo[/name_f]- names? I think [name_f]Yoli[/name_f] works as a nickname regardless.
Oh wow, you’re the first person I’ve heard that would have thought the e was silent - interesting! I know some assume it’s eye-oh-LAN-thuh rather than eye-oh-LAN-thee - but LANth is a new one! Thanks for sharing.
I prefer [name_f]Violet[/name_f] or [name_f]Viola[/name_f]…however, I also love [name_f]Isolde[/name_f], [name_f]Iona[/name_f], [name_f]Io[/name_f]…what do you think?
Throwing in another vote for [name_f]Ianthe[/name_f], because it has the gravitas of many of the names in the poll, but it’s shorter and softer [name_f]IMO[/name_f].
I voted [name_f]Iolanthe[/name_f]. I say ee-oh-lahn-thee and eye-oh-lahn-thee interchangably (I lean more toward the first one). I voted [name_f]Iolanthe[/name_f] beacause I think it has the prettiest sound, but I think all these names are a little heavy and hard to pronounce, I’d just go for [name_f]Violet[/name_f] or [name_f]Viola[/name_f] or [name_f]Violetta[/name_f].
[name_f]Iola[/name_f]/[name_f]Iole[/name_f] would be simpler options (Meaning, origin and history of the name Iole - Behind the Name). It’s pronounced ee-Oh-lee, but I think you could get away with Eye-Oh-lee ([name_f]Iola[/name_f] would be ee-Oh-la or eye-oh-la). You lose the flower part, but you could use a middle that means flower like [name_f]Iole[/name_f] [name_f]Flora[/name_f] or [name_f]Iola[/name_f] [name_f]Blossom[/name_f] or [name_f]Iole[/name_f] [name_f]Anthea[/name_f]. Pronunciation would still be a bit tough there too, but I think it would be easier.
