A name for Cecily and Jemima's twin siblings!

This is my first time posting, even though I’ve been an avid user since I was about 14 years old writing my first baby name list!

We’ve recently found out we’re expecting twins (we’re going to keep the gender a surprise) and we’re now struggling to come up with names.

For a little bit of context:

  • We already have two daughters - Cecily Florence and Jemima Elizabeth.
  • Cecily and Jemima were both the top of my list for years and years (luckily DH liked them too!), and their middle names are after each grandmother.
  • We’re not that fussed about having a ‘nickname’ for their names - we tend to call Cecily and Jemima by ‘silly’ nicknames that they wouldn’t use outside the family anyway.
  • We live in the UK and DH is Dutch (while we’ve had many compliments on our daughters’ names, the Dutch side of the family do struggle with Jemima so we want to try and make sure we avoid this problem with the twins)
  • I’m a teacher, so I’m looking for names that I woudn’t hear too often in school.

Here are the names we like so far for girls:
Amabel
Felicity
Dorothy
Edith
Hermione
Imogen
Iris
Margaret
Matilda
Penelope
Rosamund
Sybil
Tallulah
Violet

And for boys:
Alfred
Arthur
Edmund
Gideon
Henry
Theodore

Middle names for boys are sorted (named after our fathers) but for girls we’re open to any ideas for the middle name spot

TIA x

Oh my gosh love your daughters names :cherry_blossom:

I love your list so many gorgeous names!

My thoughts…

Amabel ~ a really pretty name that feels whimsy and ethereal. However I think feels more in keeping with Jemim@ then C3cily. Furthermore with the popularity of Annabel could the name cause everyday confusion.

Felicity ~ glamorous virtue choice that feels elegant yet sassy however I am more drawn to each of your children having their own individual endings.

Dorothy ~ gorgeous vintage name with cottagecore energy and I love the nickname Dotty. However I feel similar thoughts to Felicity with that y ending.

Edith ~ gorgeous name with cottagecore imagery and the adorable nickname Edie. I think Edith sounds fab with your kiddos.

Hermione ~ I think this name has the right vibe she’s ethereal, whimsy and unexpected. She works well with your girls whilst having her own individual ending.

Imogen ~ absolutely lovely a strong name with an ethereal maiden feel. You can envision an Imogen being on a windy pebbled beach in the highlands wrapped in an oversized scarf. I love her with your girls.

Iris ~ a favourite of mine but for me doesn’t have the right feel.

Margaret ~ lacks the whimsy romance of your girls. She is beautiful a regal choice but not my favourite with your girls. I think Margaux would be more in keeping.

Matilda ~ again lovely but lacks that unexpected feel of your girls.

Penelope ~ very pretty, elegant choice with a range of gorgeous nicknames. I think she’s beautiful with your girls.

Rosamund ~ beyond beautiful such a charming vintage choice that feels whimsy yet strong. I think Rosamund is perfection with your girls. I love!!

Sybil ~ an unexpected vintage choice that feels hipster and fashionable with a cool middle name.

Tallulah ~ beautiful bohemian choice!

Violet ~ a lovely floral choice that feels sugary sweet imagery.

Combinations:

Rosamund Felicity & Imogen Dorothy
Edith Violet & Sybil Iris
Hermione Margaret + Tallulah Amabel
Penelope Iris & Rosamund Edith

Suggestions: Rosalind, Estella, Marianne, Dorothea, Blythe, Bronwen, Winika, Winifred, Louisa, Leonora, Opaline or Mirabel.

Alfred ~ a sweet, casual vintage name but with all the Alfie’s running around feels a little predictable.

Arthur ~ gorgeous teddy bear name that feels stable but I do think Arthur is a bit predictable as we have had a boom of Arthur’s born.

Edmund ~ lovely name that feels soft, whimsy and gentle I think would work wonderfully with your girls.

Gideon ~ gorgeous name! So handsome truly lovely biblical name that feels perfect with your girls.

Henry ~ a strong handsome classic that feels timeless.

Theodore ~ another solid classic that feels regal with sweet nicknames.

I love Edmund & Gideon as a pairing!

Suggestions: Tobias, Malachi, Dorian, Solomon, Peregrine, Ambrose, Rafferty, Finnegan, Wilfred, Boaz, Osmond, Orson, Samson, Thaddeus, Moses, Abraham or Willoughby.

Girl/boy:

Rosamund & Theodore
Penelope & Edmund
Tallulah & Gideon

Hope this helps

You have beautifully named children and a very cool list. Honestly, I think you could choose any of these, but I have three favorite options for girls and two for boys:

Boys:

[name_m]Gideon[/name_m] - There’s a strength and solidity to [name_m]Gideon[/name_m] that I think compliments the brightness of [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] and softness of [name_f]Cecily[/name_f]. It has the same upbeat rhythm and a lot of history behind it. Very handsome choice.

[name_m]Edmund[/name_m] - I think [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] captures the same playful [name_f]British[/name_f] storybook spirit as [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] and [name_f]Cecily[/name_f]. Edmund’s my hands down favorite [name_m]Ed[/name_m]- name - I like that it’s more unexpected than [name_m]Edward[/name_m] and warmer than [name_m]Edgar[/name_m].

Girls:

[name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] - While [name_f]Violet[/name_f] feels a bit too popular compared to [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] and [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] and [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] feels a bit too outlandish, [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] hits the perfect sweet spot. I imagine a [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] being so clever and confident. It feels like the kind of name that belongs in a Victorian novel about a rebellious noble woman.

[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] - I love, love, love [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f]. I love how it’s so international and old Hollywood and cheerful. I also really like how the lul in [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] mirrors the Cec in [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] and mim in [name_f]Jemima[/name_f]. If I had to identify the one girls name that matches your older girls most perfectly, it would probably be [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f].

[name_f]Amabel[/name_f] - Who doesn’t love a name that literally means “loveable”? [name_f]Amabel[/name_f] is so sweet and warm, and just that little bit distinct. To me [name_f]Amabel[/name_f] hits the same notes as [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] and actually would make an amazing twin name for [name_m]Edmund[/name_m].

[name_f]My[/name_f] suggested sets:

[name_f]Cecily[/name_f], [name_f]Jemima[/name_f], [name_m]Gideon[/name_m] and [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]

[name_f]Cecily[/name_f], [name_f]Jemima[/name_f], [name_m]Gideon[/name_m] and [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f]

[name_f]Cecily[/name_f], [name_f]Jemima[/name_f], [name_m]Gideon[/name_m] and [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f]

[name_f]Cecily[/name_f], [name_f]Jemima[/name_f], [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] and [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f]

[name_f]Cecily[/name_f], [name_f]Jemima[/name_f], [name_m]Gideon[/name_m] and [name_f]Amabel[/name_f]

[name_f]Cecily[/name_f], [name_f]Jemima[/name_f], [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] and [name_f]Amabel[/name_f]

[name_f]Cecily[/name_f], [name_f]Jemima[/name_f], [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] and [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f]

[name_f]Cecily[/name_f], [name_f]Jemima[/name_f], [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] and [name_f]Amabel[/name_f]

[name_f]Cecily[/name_f], [name_f]Jemima[/name_f], [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] and [name_f]Amabel[/name_f]

Wow! How exciting!

With your girls, I like more or less all your girl list - Amabel, Edith, Matilda, Rosamund, Tallulah & Violet stand out. I’m not a big Dorothy nor Felicity fan and I’d prefer Marguerite to Margaret for a first (though either way, I love Daisy & Peggy!). I really like Imogen & Hermione too but they’re quite close to Jemima - ie Mimi/Mymie names? And Sybil might be too close to Cecily for me (or I would try for own starting sound first, and break rule of all time fave).

Some names, with some Dutchies in there:

Edith Josephine
Matilda Beatrice
Amabel Claire
Imogen Clara
Leonore Charlotte
Adelaide Margaret
Harriet Lucille
Daphne Frances
Marigold Helena
Tabitha Anouk
Philippa Celeste (Pippa)
Anouk Amabel
Tessa Madeleif
Rosemary Sybil (Romy)

Aaaaand my fave girls’ name attributed to the Netherlands: Annefleur - maybe Annefleur Margaret

I like: Edmund, Arthur, and Gideon best (Henry and Theodore too popular - Arthur might be too? - and I’m off Theodore - bit too cute).

Others:

Wilfred (prefer Wilfy to Alfred’s Alfie)
Rupert
Felix
Casper
Florian
Hugo
Willem
Fabian
Griffin
Ambrose
Peregrin (Pippin)
Tobias
Alasdair

[name_f]Cecily[/name_f] and [name_f]Jemima[/name_f] are gorgeous!

From your list, I’m loving [name_f]Amabel[/name_f], [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f], [name_f]Edith[/name_f], [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f], [name_f]Sybil[/name_f] and Tallulah!!

If you work in a school and don’t want to hear your kids names too often, I’d probably skip [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and [name_f]Imogen[/name_f]. I think they’d make fabulous middles though!

[name_f]Amabel[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_f]Edith[/name_f] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_f]Sybil[/name_f] [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] and [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] came to mind!

A few more ideas:

[name_f]Agnes[/name_f] - [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] - [name_f]Madelief[/name_f] - [name_f]Saskia[/name_f] - [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] - [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] - [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] - [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] - [name_f]Noemi[/name_f] - [name_f]Noelia[/name_f] - [name_f]Annastasia[/name_f] - [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] - [name_f]Vera[/name_f] - [name_f]Mavis[/name_f] - [name_f]Lois[/name_f] - [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] - [name_f]Cassandra[/name_f] - [name_f]Mirabel[/name_f]

For boys, [name_m]Alfred[/name_m], [name_m]Gideon[/name_m], [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], and [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] are nice! I’d probably avoid [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], [name_m]Henry[/name_m], and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] though if you don’t want to hear them too often - as nice as they all are!

A few more ideas:

[name_m]Thaddeus[/name_m] - [name_m]Ernest[/name_m] - [name_m]Raphael[/name_m] - [name_m]Francis[/name_m] - [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m] - [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] - [name_m]Edwin[/name_m] - [name_m]Florian[/name_m] - [name_m]Fabian[/name_m] - [name_m]Ferdinand[/name_m] - [name_m]Marius[/name_m] - [name_m]Julian[/name_m] - [name_m]Emmett[/name_m] - [name_m]Wilbur[/name_m] - [name_m]Alaric[/name_m]

Thank you so much for everyone’s suggestions!
I’m not too savvy with posting on here yet, so apologies if my replies are slightly clunky here but I’m figuring it out as I go along.

We have one girl’s name now - Rosamund Josephine !
For reasons unbeknownst to us, Jemima has started referring to the babies as ‘Rosy Posy’ and it has sort of stuck for us too so that’s one name ticked off!

I also have realised that I should have mentioned in my first post that we have 4 cats (Hugo, Otis, Margo, and Mavis) so their names are out for obvious reasons!

@Keira.Dona
I absolutely love Penelope Sybil and Felicity Joan! Joan is actually a family name so that’s a lovely little touch

@daisydarcy
Gideon and Imogen are now pretty much the top contenders for boy-girl twins for both myself and DH so thank you very much for the suggestion.
I love Tobias, but our last name ends in an ‘s’ sound and it doesn’t sound quite right all together.
I also adore Delphine and Ianthe but they’re very much guilty pleasures for me and DH wasn’t on board :joy:

@Nessie4
Thank you so much for reminding me of Maud! I can’t believe I hadn’t thought of it before - I’ll definitely be trying to fit Maud in somewhere (even if it means we have to get another kitten if these twins end up being boys!)

@Johannaa
Some gorgeous suggestions - thank you! I love Adelaide and Winnifred in particular.

@tori101
Thank you so much for your very thoughtful comments! The combination of Penelope and Rosamund is currently top of my list for girls

@FreyByTheWay
Thank you so much
Gideon and Edmund sound wonderful together (I’ve now sort of got my fingers crossed for boys just to make sure we can call them this!)
Although I love Tallulah, DH has now said that he wouldn’t like it to be abbreviated to Lula or Lulu which would be most likely once they get to school age so it’s not on the cards anymore.

@EloiseT
I hadn’t thought of the similar sound with Imogen/Hermione/Jemima - thank you!
Edith Josephine is a beautiful name - I love it!
Thank you for the Dutch suggestions as well! DH didn’t want a specifically ‘Dutch’ names for Cecily and Jemima, but I think he’s leaning towards it this time around so these are very helpful. Madelief is absolutely stunning and might land a middle name spot. Unfortunately Anouk is already taken by the girls’ cousin but a stunning option nonetheless.

@Greyblue
Thank you for your thoughts!
I agree that I’d definitely be hearing Matilda and Violet in school a bit too often for comfort. So far, I’ve not had many Penelope’s or Imogens either at my school or in the girls’ nursery/play groups/school, so I might be in luck in the area that we’re in.
Thank you for the suggestions - I particularly love Henrietta (DH has unfortunately already vetoed for being ‘too posh’) and Saskia and Madelief for the Dutch association.

So to sum it all up - thank you again everyone and I know this is a ridiculously long post from me, so if anyone’s still reading… well done and thank you!

We’ve got a shortlist now at least:

Rosamund Josephine and Penelope Charlotte (aunt/godmother’s name)
or
Rosamund Josephine and Imogen Victoria

Imogen Victoria and Gideon X
or
Edith Matilda and Alfred X

Gideon X and Edmund X
or
Alfred X and Henry X

Thank you again for all your thoughts and I’ll be back in 4 months time to share the final choice !
