I am pregnant with my third, a girl, and my husband and I feel stuck on our names. There are three names we love most, but we have significant problems with each name- enough to need some opinions. Our first two children are [name_f]Cora[/name_f] (f) and [name_m]Findley[/name_m] (m) and we settled on their names without issue. This is uncharted territory for us. Eikes!
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f]- I feel like she would be plagued with this name explanation “Like [name_f]Melody[/name_f], without the M”.
[name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]- So cute. However, in our American English, it will often sound like “Oddly”.
[name_f]Tova[/name_f]- It seems too close to [name_f]Cora[/name_f], our other daughter.
I would love advice or suggestions for similar names. Thanks Berries!
I would go with [name_f]Tova[/name_f]. I don’t see that they are too similar - yes they have to of the same letter in the same place, but the O in [name_f]Tova[/name_f] is pronounced differently, so I wouldn’t notice them as similar or anything. It’s also a great name!
I think [name_f]Tova[/name_f] is adorable! I like [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] a lot too, but I wouldn’t use it if you worry about the [name_f]Melody[/name_f] issue. [name_f]Tova[/name_f] and [name_f]Cora[/name_f], while only two letters apart, aren’t too likely to be mixed up. I think [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_m]Findley[/name_m], and [name_f]Tova[/name_f] makes a great sibset!
[name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_m]Findley[/name_m] seem to me to be fresh but classic names that are quirky but not too quirky! So here are some I think would fit in:
[name_f]Brenna[/name_f]
[name_f]Thea[/name_f]
[name_f]Stella[/name_f]
[name_f]Rhea[/name_f]
[name_f]Iona[/name_f]
[name_f]Amalie[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilde[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f]
[name_f]Esme[/name_f]/[name_f]Esmee[/name_f]
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f]
[name_f]Isla[/name_f]
[name_f]Elsa[/name_f]
[name_f]Zadie[/name_f]/[name_f]Sadie[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_u]Avery[/name_u]
[name_f]Molly[/name_f]
[name_f]Leonie[/name_f]
[name_u]Eloise[/name_u]
[name_f]Viva[/name_f]
[name_f]Audra[/name_f]
[name_f]Maris[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecily[/name_f]

[name_f]Charis[/name_f]
[name_f]Delphine[/name_f]
[name_f]Roisin[/name_f]
[name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] and [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] both sound very [name_m]French[/name_m] to me, some more [name_m]French[/name_m] names that might fit:
I love [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] it seems to fit perfectly with your other children’s names. I get where some people would say melody with out the “m” but I think if you love it enough it won’t seem so bad.
I don’t think [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] would require much explanation. And I don’t think [name_f]Tova[/name_f] and [name_f]Cora[/name_f] are similar at all, other than on letter count.
Your list is beautiful.
However, if you feel you would like some suggestions, here are a few…
[name_u]Eloise[/name_u] (similar to [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], perhaps)
[name_f]Elowen[/name_f] (also somewhat similar to [name_f]Elodie[/name_f])
[name_f]Elora[/name_f] (" ")
[name_f]Vera[/name_f]
[name_f]Odette[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] nn [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] (a nickname reminiscent of [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]?)
[name_f]Oona[/name_f]
[name_f]Tamsin[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f]
Good luck finding the perfect name! And congratulations!
Thank you all for your insight and ideas. We still have months to sit on the name and let it be. I will definitely check back in with our final decision!
[name_u]Love[/name_u] your options, but because you have concerns with all why not start fresh.
Here are some suggestions I think fit well with [name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_m]Findley[/name_m]:
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Isla[/name_f]
[name_f]Evie[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Sadie[/name_f]
[name_f]Etta[/name_f]
[name_f]Ruth[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] ([name_f]Bea[/name_f])
[name_u]Aspyn[/name_u]
[name_f]Leona[/name_f]
I love all your choices with [name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_m]Findley[/name_m]. I’m a fan of your style!
I’m not American so I can’t really help with the pronunciation and cultural issues.
[name_f]Tova[/name_f] is quite close to [name_f]Cora[/name_f] but not too close.
What about [name_u]Tavi[/name_u]? Pronounced tay-vee. As a diminutive of [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] but used by itself.
Some names like [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] and [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]:
[name_f]Romilly[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]
[name_f]Ramona[/name_f]
[name_u]Eloise[/name_u]
Personally I find [name_f]Tova[/name_f] and [name_f]Cora[/name_f] too close in sound and not enough in style. [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] and [name_m]Findley[/name_m] sound too much alike as well. I love the pp suggestion of [name_f]Elowen[/name_f], [name_f]Vera[/name_f], and [name_f]Odette[/name_f].
My favourite from your list is [name_f]Elodie[/name_f]. It’s a gorgeous name and goes beautifully with the other two kids names.
