I am considering this as a name for my daughter. This name was going to be coupled with the middle name Song.
Rememberance Song.
My question is,
Is this too far out to be used as a name? do you think that it wsill be more than likely that my daughter will be teased with the nn [name_f]Remember[/name_f] ? I’d like for her nn to be [name_u]Ember[/name_u].
Too weird? any feedback would be appreciated.
More tame names I’m considering include [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] and Zeliah. any thoughts on Zeliah?
To answer your question though, Remembrance Song is too much for me. It’s not versatile at all, and I can’t imagine a girl being too thrilled to wear this name unless there’s a spectacular story behind it. [name_u]Ember[/name_u], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], and Zeliah are all far more wearable.
I personally think you should choose one name or the other just for the sake of versatility. You don’t know what kind of personality your daughter will have and while she might love the attention being named Remembrance gets her, she might also be the type who wishes to blend in a little more and choose to go by her middle name. Song isn’t going to give her that option. I would suggest pairing either word name with a more classic choice (quick example: Remembrance Elizabeth or Adelaide Song). If you need suggestions, I and many other Berries would be more than happy to help you. =]
On the other hand, Ember is a very cute nickname. I do think people will “tease” her with Remember, but it’s not like that is a bad word or anything. Your taste reminds me of this book I read as a child: Amazon.com
Honestly, Remembrance (spelled correctly) Song is terrible. I’m all for not hurting feelings and being nice on the internet, but if a friend of mine was considering naming her daughter Remembrance Song, I would tell her the very same thing. It’s cheesy, it’s ridiculous, it’s over the top, and I can think of very, very few girls who would actually be happy to have such a hippy-dippy sort of name. All your other options ([name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], [name_f]Colette[/name_f], [name_f]Zelia/name_f, [name_u]Ember[/name_u]) are lovely. And all very usable. Remembrance Song is… not. It sounds like a joke. It almost strikes me worse than [name_u]North[/name_u] [name_u]West[/name_u]. Besides, what in the world would you do to follow up after Remembrance Song?
[name_m]Just[/name_m] use [name_u]Ember[/name_u], if you like that. Or [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] Song is so lovely. But please don’t use Remembrance Song. It doesn’t even sound like a name.
I’m sorry if I came across as harsh–that’s never my intention–and I hope you can find a name you love and can come to peace with. I just feel like it really needed to be said. All the best!
personally, i’m a fan of the name [name_f]Remember[/name_f], but then i named my dd that, so of course i am! ( :
i do think Remembrance Song is a little over the top (normally, i NEVER offer my opinion about people’s name choices, but you did ask! i do love the idea of pairing Remembrance with a classic middle name, so she has an option when she’s older if she’s uncomfortable with Remembrance or [name_f]Remember[/name_f]. we did this with my dd.
still, i truly do believe that if you love a name and if it has deep meaning for you, you cannot go wrong. as for teasing, i think children will find something to tease about no matter the name. i think it depends more on the child than the name. listen, [name_f]Destinee[/name_f] [name_m]Hooker[/name_m] grew up to become a beautiful, kick-ass olympic volleyball player. i think Remembrance Song beats that name any day. ( : and it has LOTS of nn possibilities: Mem, Memma, Memmie, Memsie, [name_u]Ember[/name_u], [name_u]Remi[/name_u], [name_f]Ree[/name_f]… the list goes on.
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] is lovely. Zeliah is not my favorite, but i love the nn Z.
Remembrance (I presume that Rememberance was a misspelling?) Song is not my cup of tea, so I’m gonna spare you for my opinion on it.
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] is stunning, I would go with that. In regards to Zeliah, I am a [name_f]Zelia[/name_f] myself and I find the added H in Zeliah completely unnecessary.
