A name to fall in love with

I keep thinking there’s got to be a name out there I’ll just fall in love with but I haven’t found a namewe haven’t used that I feel this way about. We have lots of time baby #3 is just a dream right now. We have two precious daughters already, [name]Elena[/name] and [name]Mahayla[/name]. [name]Elena[/name] was the name I jotted down in my journal in 7th grade and always loved. [name]Mahayla[/name] is the name of one of my great great grandmas and my dh loved it. [name]Both[/name] names have significant meanings to us.

So just hoping someone might suggest something that will be the next most wonderful name we’ve could possibly think of…perhaps part of the problem is that the names I seem to like have become ever so popular and we don’t want our kids to have a name that is frequently heard. Example…love [name]Isabella[/name] and [name]Sofia[/name] (but so does everyone else so it seems :).

Here’s the criteria and thanks so much for reading. I love names so thinking about them far in advance is a pleasure.

  • Must be completely feminine, while I like names like [name]Josephina[/name] my dh hears “[name]Joseph[/name]” and thinks it’s to close to a boys name.
  • We have given both our daughters 3 names, 2 first and a middle. The first name is alliterated (but we’re not completely set on continuing the pattern), which wasn’t exactly on purpose but we liked those names and since they have 3 it seemed to make the first two flow together. (not everyone’s thing but we liked it :))
    [name]Elena[/name] is [name]Elena[/name] [name]Esme[/name] [name]Amali[/name] and [name]Mahayla[/name] is [name]Mahala[/name] [name]Mercy[/name] [name]Jubilee[/name] last name is 2 syllables.
  • We like names that have strong and lovely meanings…
  • Dh seems drawn to names that are from Greek, Hebrew, Latin origin, he likes Biblical languages and meanings (I do too)
  • I also seem to love French sounding names ex.[name]Esme[/name], but dh doesn’t seem to like the ette ending.

Here are the favorites of the likes so far…just haven’t found the name/combo that we are in love with…
[name]Felicity[/name]
[name]Faith[/name]
[name]Juliet[/name]
[name]Jordanna[/name]
[name]Sofia[/name] (to popular for us, but so pretty maybe as a mn?)
[name]Simone[/name] (seems more mn than first to us)
[name]Adelais[/name] (pronounced [name]Ad[/name]-el-ay)
[name]Elsa[/name]
[name]Elisabetta[/name] (too much? I love nn. [name]Elsie[/name] and [name]Betsy[/name])
[name]Serenity[/name]
[name]True[/name]
[name]Milana[/name] (probably too close to [name]Mahayla[/name], is it too close?)
[name]Noemi[/name]
[name]Jessamine[/name]

Names that one of us likes but that have been vetoed/names that dh thinks are nice in a book (but can’t picture for us) [name]Josephina[/name], [name]Isadora[/name], [name]Adelaide[/name], [name]Allegra[/name], [name]Cordelia[/name], [name]Kathleen[/name], [name]Simona[/name], [name]Phillipa[/name], [name]Evelyn[/name]/[name]Aveline[/name], [name]Magnolia[/name], [name]Violet[/name], [name]Daphne[/name], [name]Seraphina[/name], [name]Angelina[/name]

Thanks for any ideas!

I love your names! And since they’re all great I’ll try to give you both + and -

[name]Felicity[/name]- This sounds great with your sibset, but then both [name]Mahayla[/name] and baby #3 would have virtue names, but [name]Elena[/name] wouldn’t (that matters to some but not to others)
[name]Faith[/name]- Same thing with this name, but I also think this sounds a little too abrupt when paired with [name]Mahayla[/name] and [name]Elena[/name]. But would make a great mn.
[name]Juliet[/name]- Has the same romantic feel as the other 2 but is a little more consonant heavy than them
[name]Jordanna[/name]- This is the only name on your list I’m not a fan of, sounds a little more trendy and made up when compared to your other names.
[name]Sofia[/name]- It is very popular but it goes great with your sibset
[name]Simone[/name]- I agree it’d make a great mn but it isn’t as romantic as [name]Elena[/name] and [name]Mahayla[/name]
[name]Adelais[/name]- I [name]LOVE[/name] this. It goes great with your sibset and is gorgeous, but you might have some prn. issues
[name]Elsa[/name]- Ok, I’d like it better as a nn
[name]Elisabetta[/name]- I do think it’s a little much, unless of course your from [name]Italy[/name]
[name]Serenity[/name]- Same thing with [name]Felicity[/name], but I think [name]Felicity[/name] goes better
[name]True[/name]- Ditto, and it’s a little short in comparison, But would make a great mn
[name]Milana[/name]- I do think it’s a little too close, it feels like a blend between [name]Elena[/name] & [name]Mahayla[/name]
[name]Noemi[/name]- I think this name is great and works well with your sibset
[name]Jessamine[/name]- This name is sweet

Some other names you might consider…

[name]Adeline[/name]
[name]Miranda[/name]
[name]Acacia[/name]
Briseis
[name]Calandra[/name]
[name]Delphia[/name]
[name]Gemma[/name]
[name]Hada[/name]

Alexa400, thanks for the feedback, really helpful. We’d be ok with another virtue name as [name]Esme[/name] and [name]Amali[/name] both have virtue meanings…[name]Esme[/name] means love and [name]Amali[/name] means [name]Hope[/name] (although we pronounce it like [name]Amelie[/name]).
[name]How[/name] do you pronounce Briseis?

Any suggestions for getting to [name]Elsa[/name] as a nn? I agree with you (like it more as a nn) but we’re not very fond of the [name]Elizabeth[/name] choices.

I love the name [name]Elspeth[/name] nn [name]Elsa[/name]. I know you aren’t keen on the forms of [name]Elizabeth[/name], like you said, but its just so cute!

I think [name]Elspeth[/name] is spunky cute but we’re just not into that one. Other names I love but have been vetoed are [name]Luciana[/name] and [name]Dorothea[/name].

[name]Felicity[/name] - nms but I like, its sweet and feminine
[name]Faith[/name] - same with [name]Felicity[/name]
[name]Juliet[/name] - Great choice!
[name]Jordanna[/name] - too 90’s feeling for me
[name]Sofia[/name] (to popular for us, but so pretty maybe as a mn?) - very popular but classic, sweet and beautiful!
[name]Simone[/name] (seems more mn than first to us) - great choice, love this for you!
[name]Adelais[/name] - think you might have prn issues since the normal French pronunciation is more like “[name]Adel[/name] eye EES” or listen here Pronunciations for adelais (from Adelaïs to Adélaïs) since I may not explain it well
[name]Elsa[/name] - nms, makes me think of cows
[name]Elisabetta[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name] this! Encourage you to use it!!
[name]Serenity[/name] - sorry but I think of birth control or antidepressants for some weird reason lol
[name]True[/name] -nms I cant picture it as a name
[name]Milana[/name] -probably too close but I love it and wouldnt rule it out
[name]Noemi[/name] - prefer [name]Naomi[/name], I think you will have prn issues with this
[name]Jessamine[/name] - nms but pretty and vibrant!

[name]Juliet[/name]- this is really pretty! i like [name]Jordana[/name] [name]Juliet[/name] ______ if you want to stick with the formula you’ve been using.
[name]Jordanna[/name]- love this. prefer one n tho
[name]Simone[/name]- my daughters middle name! [name]Silvia[/name] [name]Simone[/name] _____ is nice. i like [name]Simone[/name] enough for a fn tho.
[name]Adelais[/name]- [name]Adlai[/name] is a male name (i know you said husbannd isn’t into that…) that i think would be so cute on a girl!
[name]Elisabetta[/name]- i love this with nn [name]Betsy[/name]!
[name]Noemi[/name]- i love [name]Naomi[/name].
other ideas- [name]Samara[/name], [name]Sabine[/name], [name]Dahlia[/name], [name]Pippa[/name], [name]Ramona[/name], [name]Emeline[/name], [name]Vivian[/name], [name]Vivienne[/name], [name]Viola[/name], [name]Phoebe[/name], [name]Theodora[/name], [name]Theodosia[/name], [name]Catherine[/name], [name]Noelle[/name].

Thanks for all the kind feedback, really appreciate it! Your thoughts are encouraging and make me like our list so much more. So on [name]Adelais[/name], I was under the impression that it was [name]German[/name] and pronounced [name]Ad[/name]-el-ay? If it’s not is the pronunciation we prefer spelled differently? We are not into made up names and have been trying to figure that out for a while.

thetxbell, thanks for liking [name]Elisabetta[/name], my hesitation here is that it seems long (our other daughters have 3 syllable names) and doesn’t seem to have the softest flow…so what do you berries think? Any ideas here?

I see [name]True[/name] as a middle name.

Taz, I’ve run so many of your suggestions by my dh, but he’s not interested. Thanks for such great suggestions though!
So given our list so far how would you combine them…we have some ideas but I’m wondering what pops out to others.

Adelais could very well be German too, my mind just automatically went to the ftench version but I wouldn’t be surprised if its roots we’re German instead or as well. Unfortunately I know nothing about German names so I encourage you to type the name into forvo.com and see what comes up. I’m sure another nameberry can tell you more too.

I would love to meet an elisabetta! So refreshing and cute but grown up and refined too. Plus it’s familiar enough that I don’t think it seems weird or hard to pronounce!

Fwiw I think Adelais prn your preferred way is adorable!

I read your post and then later on remembered my friend’s daughter’s name… [name]Alethea[/name] (or maybe it’s spelled [name]Alethia[/name], or some other way, not sure on the spelling). Pronounced [name]Ah[/name]-lay-thee (as in think)-ah. I think it’s beautiful. They told me it is greek and means something like light. Not sure, but if you like it I’m sure you and your hubby will figure all of that out. I think it goes well with your other two. Very beautiful, very feminine.

[name]Jamie[/name]

I think Briseis is pronounced something like Brih-SAY-iss Encyclopedia Mythica

And as for [name]Elsa[/name], I do love [name]Elspeth[/name], but it could work as a nn for [name]Elizabetta[/name] as well  or of course Elsabeth but some more creative ways to get it could be: [name]Kelsey[/name], [name]Wellesley[/name], [name]Chelsea[/name], [name]Giselle[/name], [name]Eloisa[/name], [name]Annalisa[/name], [name]Melissa[/name], [name]Felisa[/name], [name]Thalassa[/name] (prn. with a hard ‘t’ I think) [name]Rosella[/name]

Good [name]Luck[/name]!

[name]Corinne[/name] [name]Adele[/name]

[QUOTE=taz;1356708][name]Juliet[/name]- this is really pretty! i like [name]Jordana[/name] [name]Juliet[/name] ______ if you want to stick with the formula you’ve been using.

Because [name]Jordan[/name] can be a teetering unisex name, it is typically not my style; it would however be more distinct with the -a ending, while [name]Juliet[/name] sets it off beautifully… I definitely think that with your sibset, this would be a lovely choice! I myself am drawn to Hebrew name inspiration, and what better than the [name]Jordan[/name] to identify that is your style??

[name]Alessandra[/name] came to mind immediately.
There’s the very rare, but legitimate, [name]Alexandrie[/name]. French from of [name]Alexandra[/name].
I love [name]Serenity[/name] myself, I like mostly as a middle name though.

I’d suggest [name]Selena[/name], but that might be too close to [name]Elena[/name] for you. Maybe [name]Serena[/name]?
[name]Milana[/name] is too close to [name]Mahayla[/name] for me.

Suggestions:
[name]Vittoria[/name]
[name]Gabrielle[/name]
[name]Hanna[/name]
[name]Jade[/name]
