A New Name for a Genderqueer Friend

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone! It’s been a while since I’ve been on here, but I’m back because I have another friend who has come out as genderqueer and is thinking of adopting a new name. Their current name is [name_u]Erin[/name_u], and are thinking of a more masculine name that is relatively unique. Some names they like include [name_u]Harper[/name_u], [name_u]Rory[/name_u], [name_u]Alex[/name_u] and [name_u]Fern[/name_u]. I’m thinking names like [name_u]Lux[/name_u], [name_u]Cove[/name_u], [name_u]Hollis[/name_u], [name_u]Quinn[/name_u], [name_u]Carter[/name_u], [name_u]Halston[/name_u] and [name_u]Revel[/name_u]. What do you guys think?

From their list, [name_u]Rory[/name_u] is quite nice.

[name_u]Harper[/name_u] is unisex but most people would assume feminine - same for [name_u]Fern[/name_u]. [name_u]Alex[/name_u] is fine, but I know tens of genderqueer people called [name_u]Alex[/name_u] lol so I like how [name_u]Rory[/name_u] is more unique.

They might also like [name_u]Remy[/name_u], [name_u]Kit[/name_u], [name_u]Ren[/name_u], [name_u]Will[/name_u], [name_u]Jem[/name_u], [name_u]Jude[/name_u], [name_u]Finley[/name_u], [name_u]Ellis[/name_u], [name_u]Ari[/name_u], [name_u]Beck[/name_u] or [name_u]Tate[/name_u].

[name_u]Rory[/name_u] and [name_u]Fern[/name_u] are nice - I like [name_u]Hollis[/name_u], [name_u]Cove[/name_u], [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] and [name_u]Halston[/name_u] too.

They might like [name_m]Frey[/name_m], [name_u]Clarke[/name_u], [name_u]Olsen[/name_u], [name_u]Indy[/name_u], [name_u]Pax[/name_u], [name_u]Parker[/name_u], [name_u]Corey[/name_u], [name_u]Joss[/name_u], [name_u]Jules[/name_u], [name_u]Ash[/name_u], [name_u]Mack[/name_u], [name_u]Beau[/name_u], [name_u]Colby[/name_u] or [name_u]Sasha[/name_u]

I like all the names from their list but [name_u]Alex[/name_u] is very common, so I would go with the others.
From the ones you suggested I would go with [name_u]Hollis[/name_u], [name_u]Quinn[/name_u], maybe [name_u]Revel[/name_u] and [name_u]Halston[/name_u]. [name_f]My[/name_f] favourite of those is [name_u]Quinn[/name_u], but I think it is relatively common between genderqueer folk, while the others are rarer.
Some other suggestions for them:

[name_m]Landen[/name_m] / [name_u]Linden[/name_u]
[name_u]Nicola[/name_u] / [name_u]Nikola[/name_u]
[name_u]Nico[/name_u] / [name_u]Niko[/name_u]
[name_u]Ares[/name_u] / [name_u]Aries[/name_u]
[name_u]Averill[/name_u] / [name_u]Averil[/name_u]
[name_f]Auriel[/name_f] / [name_u]Auriol[/name_u]
[name_m]Ives[/name_m] / [name_m]Yves[/name_m]
[name_u]Daniel[/name_u] / [name_u]Daniele[/name_u]
[name_u]Michel[/name_u] / [name_u]Michele[/name_u]
[name_m]Raphael[/name_m] / Raphaele
[name_u]Gabriel[/name_u] / [name_u]Gabriele[/name_u]

Also good luck to them! I know by myself that choosing a name especially for a genderqueer person and the path for self discovery must have be / would be difficult, so there is no worry to hurry! [name_f]Hope[/name_f] they can like those names.

[name_u]Alex[/name_u] is very gender neutral, I know a fairly even split and wouldn’t assume gender, whereas some of the others trend more one way than the other.

A lot of surname and nature names trend gender neutral so could be an option, or nickname type names where there are both masculine and feminine long forms.

I hope your friend finds something that feels perfect for them!

Of those, I like [name_u]Fern[/name_u], [name_u]Harper[/name_u] and [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] best. I don’t like [name_u]Rory[/name_u] much, personally. Other unique names off the top head: Rowan/Rowen, [name_u]Finn[/name_u] (my son’s name), [name_u]Porter[/name_u], [name_u]Jasper[/name_u], [name_u]Lark[/name_u], [name_u]Finch[/name_u], [name_u]Wren[/name_u], [name_u]Cedar[/name_u], Burdock, [name_u]Oak[/name_u], [name_u]Mars[/name_u], River… apparently I like nature names, haha. I also love place names like [name_m]Nairn[/name_m], [name_f]Astoria[/name_f] (though super feminine), [name_m]Galloway[/name_m], [name_u]London[/name_u], etc. Literary names are a huge favorite too. [name_f]Do[/name_f] they have a favorite character in a book? [name_f]My[/name_f] current favorite is Cup from The Book of Koli but I think I’ll save that for a baby goat instead of a human.
