A new name we agree on in our household...maybe the one!

Okay, I’ve posted a few posts on here about potential baby names for our second daughter due in [name]August[/name]. My DH is very opinionated and wants more than veto power, but would like to agree on the name. Problem is he doesn’t mind trendy names (top 10 names) as much as I do. We went back and forth on our first daughter’s name for a long time. It was not until he suggested the name [name]Sadie[/name], that he had long ago vetoed from my list, that we can to agreement and, sure enough, the same thing happened last night.

So last night, my three year old told me her sister’s name was [name]Abby[/name]. I asked her who told her that and she was the nanny, so I figured [name]Abigail[/name] was my nanny’s favorite name and called the nanny to ask her if [name]Abby[/name] was her favorite name that she was feeding to my daughter. She told me that [name]Scarlett[/name] was her favorite name. My husband overheard and chimes in, I like [name]Scarlett[/name]! Now, mind you, [name]Scarlett[/name] was circulated by me for our first daughter and it’s sitting on my short list of names on the refridgerator, hoping it would seep into my DH’s subconscious. So like [name]Sadie[/name], I said I like [name]Scarlett[/name], you said you didn’t. But I quickly accepted his change of heart and proclaimed our next daughter [name]Scarlett[/name].

What do you think, [name]Sadie[/name] and [name]Scarlett[/name]? I know they are different…[name]Sadie[/name] being a vintage nickname and [name]Scarlett[/name], being definitely not a nickname. I’m really not trying to adopt an “S” theme to my kids names, since I don’t really like themes, but I wouldn’t have a problem naming my third kid a non-S name.

I envision [name]Scarlett[/name] going by [name]Scarlett[/name] mostly, but if we wanted a nickname, what do you suggest? I like [name]Carly[/name], and not sure, about Scarly? Scarly-gnarly?

Not too concerned about the scar- beginning since [name]Sadie[/name] does start with sad (though not pronounced sad), but I also madden and madison start with mad- and I haven’t seen any particularly mad propensity of teasing of [name]Madden[/name], [name]Maddox[/name], [name]Madison[/name] for this.

What do you think? [name]Do[/name] they go? Good nn?

My husband is the same way! I love [name]Scarlett[/name] and [name]Sadie[/name] and I love them together. As for nicknames for [name]Scarlett[/name], I always thought if I ever had a [name]Scarlett[/name] I’d use [name]Scout[/name] as a nickname. There’s also [name]Lettie[/name] which is cute, especially with [name]Sadie[/name].

Ok, it took about two minutes, but I like [name]Sadie[/name] and [name]Scarlett[/name]! Very cute. And after all this struggle, I think if you have liftoff, you should ride with it. I like the previous poster’s idea of [name]Lettie[/name] for a nickname – again, cute with [name]Sadie[/name] – but Scarly, a HUGE NO!!!

[name]Love[/name] your name choices of [name]Sadie[/name] and [name]Scarlett[/name]. It would be hard for me to pick just one and I think they would be great as sib sisters…if you had a third, you wouldn’t have to go with the s theme, I think it would be fine. I’m really 50/50 on the names, but I think I like [name]Scarlett[/name] a teeny bit better, just sounds a little prettier to me and stronger sounding…and sadie is more nicknamish. I love the nn lettie for [name]Scarlett[/name]. And Scar isn’t that bad if people end up calling her that, I just wouldn’t push for it. I [name]LOVE[/name] the name in full the best.

[name]How[/name] about [name]Scarlett[/name] [name]Rosalie[/name] (I think the mn should also be something vintage)

Great name choices!

Thanks! I love the honestly on Scarly! [name]Lettie[/name] just feels like entirely different name. I feel like if a nickname is too too different from the name (like [name]Kitty[/name] v. [name]Katie[/name] for [name]Katherine[/name] (kitty in my mind behind very different sounding from from [name]Katherine[/name] than [name]Katie[/name] and [name]Kathy[/name]), I just think the kid will really only use the nn and never go to the full name. I feel like [name]Lettie[/name] is more appropriate for [name]Leticia[/name] and people would assume that’s her name, so [name]Lettie[/name] while cute just feels too far from [name]Scarlett[/name] although I totally see where it comes from.

I think we’ll just stick with [name]Scarlett[/name] for her full name and no real nn.

[name]Do[/name] you love my names? Or are you 50/50? I’m confused?!?

Well, as for liking [name]Scarlett[/name] better, [name]Sadie[/name] already born and chosen so that’s a done deal. We actually love [name]Sadie[/name]'s name and couldn’t imagine her with any other name. I went to a shower this weekend and all the ladies in my table who were initially confused by the name [name]Sadie[/name] bc it doesn’t exist in Spanish, were all poo-pooing our latest names like [name]Hadley[/name] and [name]Payton[/name], but cooing over [name]Sadie[/name]'s name and how well it fits her. [name]Sadie[/name] looks and acts like a [name]Sadie[/name], but I actually feel like she could totally be a [name]Scarlett[/name] too. [name]Hope[/name] this next little one can fill her name as well. Although that means we are in for two handfuls…

As for middle names, we are pretty much set on [name]Liana[/name] (my name) as the middle name. It’s a tradition in my family that the girl’s all have the middle name. My mother passed on her middle name to us ([name]Margarita[/name]), but I didn’t care for [name]Margarita[/name], so passed on [name]Liana[/name] to [name]Sadie[/name]. If this baby is named [name]Scarlett[/name], she will [name]Scarlett[/name] [name]Liana[/name] like her sister, [name]Sadie[/name] [name]Liana[/name]. It might not sound as flowy and awesome as some other middle name but it has some tradition and I really feel like nobody uses middle names (unlesss they are named after a parent and/or hate their first name), except for few occasions like being yelled out by your parents, wedding invitations, etc. The only way I would not use [name]Liana[/name] again is if it went horribly wrong with the first name like [name]Hadley[/name]. I don’t think you can have the double -lee sounds of Had-ley and Li-ana together. In any case, hubs hates [name]Hadley[/name] and I am desperately hoping to hold on to [name]Scarlett[/name] until [name]August[/name].

Any feelings on popularity? [name]Sadie[/name] has risen in popularity and will probably continue to do since Inamed our daughter, but I love that at the time, it was not super heard of. What do you think about [name]Scarlett[/name] in light [name]Scarlett[/name] Johanssen?

Yea, definitely will not push for Scar nn, and will probably do [name]Scarlett[/name] mostly.
