I recently met a man with the name Elizean- a google search of this name turns up almost nothing, including on Nameberry, so I figure this might be a brand new name to some of you as well!
It’s pronounced el-EE-see-ahn.
I personally really like it and could totally see myself using it one day! I couldn’t find its etymology anywhere, but it does sound a lot like many Spanish names I know.
Has anyone heard it before? What do you think of it?![]()
Elizean is sleek and cool!
Assuming it’s not made up, it checks all fo the boxes for a good name in my book! It sounds very sleek. The combo Elizean [name_m]Remus[/name_m] or Elizean [name_m]Roger[/name_m] immediately popped into my head.
Could it be a variation of [name_u]Elysian[/name_u]?
On paper I would assume it’s a female name, but that isn’t really a deterrent for me, just an observation.
I do like it tho! It’s one of those names that would help me break thru my shyness to start up a conversation and find out more about his name
@EllieWilbury It seems like a name that in general could tick a lot of boxes, I was surprised to learn how rare it is! And Elizean [name_m]Remus[/name_m] sounds like a character’s name! [name_u]Strong[/name_u] and lyrical at the same time!
@tallemaja I didn’t consider that! It very well could be, I wish I could find more about the roots of the name/word, if it isn’t “made up” that is! (I guess technically every name is made up😉)
@Elle1 I certainly see why someone could view it as feminine. when I was researching, the girl’s name [name_f]Elizea[/name_f] did show up. and I would love to ask this man where his name came from, if I get the chance to I’ll post an update!
I mean, it looks like a (male?) variation of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], but I couldn’t say for sure. It sounds nice! I would have thought it was a girl name at first.
I would pronounce it el-uh-zeen, but it’s nice! ^.^
I see the appeal, but to me it sounds more like an adjective - like Victorian dress, Elizabethan era, etc.
