I need opinions as to whether people think I could name a little girl [name]Cordelia[/name] and call her by the nn. [name]Clio[/name]…?
Not a big [name]Clio[/name] fan myself.

I suppose you could, but I think there are other nicknames or full names that are a lot more obvious. It would be difficult to explain to people, but if you stick to it I think people will go along with it.

Take [name]Katie[/name] for example, she’ll just be [name]Katie[/name] until someone asks her what it’s short for. She could say any number of names ([name]Katherine[/name], [name]Katelyn[/name], [name]Katrina[/name], etc. - even Hineraukatouri could be [name]Katie[/name]!) and people wouldn’t second-guess it. Same with [name]Clio[/name], if she always goes by [name]Clio[/name] she’ll just be that until someone asks her if it’s short for anything.
I once knew a [name]Dyson[/name] that went by [name]Mac[/name]. [name]Mac[/name] was nowhere in the rest of his name. Also, a [name]Kathy[/name] that goes by [name]Kay[/name], a [name]Michelle[/name] that goes by [name]Mia[/name], and a [name]Katherine[/name] that goes by [name]Thea[/name]. People take leaps all the time, but I say if the nickname fits, wear it!
I think it makes sense with [name]Cordelia[/name]. I don’t think it sounds strange at all. Saying that, I would never use it only because there are so many other fabulous nicknames! [name]Delia[/name] and [name]Cora[/name] are my favorites. [name]Clio[/name] isn’t my style, but overall just answering your question… Yes.
I think you can call your little [name]Cordelia[/name] whatever you want. The connection to [name]Clio[/name]'s not obvious, but I wouldn’t consider that a huge drawback – they’re both very nice names.
I like [name]Cori[/name] and [name]Delia[/name] as nicknames for [name]Cordelia[/name], whatever that’s worth.
