Aussie berries I know my daughters name is very popular in Australia… I’m curious to know: how many [name]Matilda[/name]'s do you know and what are their siblings called?
I know one: [name]Matilda[/name] ([name]Tilly[/name]), [name]Ambrosia[/name] ([name]Rose[/name]) and [name]Sunny[/name]
In NZ [name]Emily[/name], [name]Alexander[/name] and [name]Matilda[/name] ([name]Tilly[/name])
In NZ (my husbands cousins children) are [name]Rosemary[/name] ([name]Rosie[/name]) and [name]Mathilde[/name]
They are the only ones I know personally but know ‘of’ lots iykwim, friends of friends etc etc
[name]Matilda[/name] is a popular name in NZ and Australia
I know two. [name]One[/name] has a brother called [name]Angus[/name]. And the other is a twin to [name]Matthew[/name]. [name]Way[/name] too matchy matchy in my opinion but to each there own.
[name]Matilda[/name]'s usually does by [name]Tildy[/name], [name]Matti[/name], [name]Tilly[/name], [name]Tilda[/name].
(Assuming you are not from Australia)
It’s part of a well known folk song in Australia known as “Waltzing [name]Matilda[/name]”. It’s probably on YouTube if you want to check it out.
Thanks guys…very interesting!!! I guess what I was curious about was whether little Austalian/kiwi [name]Matilda[/name]'s have siblings that tend to fit in the ‘hipster’ catagory or siblings with more classic names… Which it seems from the responses of berries above is more the case! Any other Aussie berries out there?! Or anyone else who knows a little [name]Matilda[/name]?
I know a [name]Matilda[/name] nn [name]Tilly[/name]! She has a brother called [name]Noah[/name] and two sisters [name]Eliza[/name] and [name]Indigo[/name] nn [name]Indy[/name]. Their style isn’t too bad, besides the hipster [name]Indigo[/name] thrown in the mix.
P.S I am in SA.
I’m in Australia and I only know one [name]Matilda[/name] - a little six week old baby (full name [name]Matilda[/name] [name]Rose[/name]). She’s their first child so has no siblings. My cousin’s daughter is two and her name is [name]Anna[/name] [name]Matilda[/name] (again, no siblings). I’m a teacher and once taught a [name]Mathilde[/name]. I think [name]Matilda[/name] is quickly gaining momentum as a popular name here in [name]Oz[/name].
I have 3 as patients…
[name]Matilda[/name] ([name]Milly[/name]), [name]Nicholas[/name] and [name]Lacey[/name]
[name]Matilda[/name] ([name]Tilly[/name]) and [name]Annabel[/name]
[name]Matilda[/name] ([name]Matty[/name], dislike this incedibly), [name]Charlie[/name], [name]Peyton[/name] and [name]Dolly[/name]
And a girl from school:
[name]Matilda[/name] (no nn), [name]Eliott[/name], [name]James[/name] and [name]Katherine[/name]
Interesting that [name]Matilda[/name]'s tend to have siblings with very classic names!! I expected to see more with sibling names more like [name]Indigo[/name] seeing as it always seems to be the first on the list if ‘hipster’ baby names!!
Honestly: none…But then again I don’t spend much time around children these days. However looking at some of the name data that has come out this year (ACT, Victoria and Tasmania), it looks like Matilda has shot up in usage.
Edit: Matilda’s in birth announcements and siblings.
