Our daughter is due in 6 weeks and is nameless except for her middle name, which will be [name_f]Grace[/name_f], for family and special reasons.
Dh and I just do not agree on girls’ names. Our first daughter’s name begins with [name_f]El[/name_f], so names that start that way are automatically out.
Our other criterion, some his and some mine, are as follows:
No modern names, prefer classic
Nothing that ends with an eeeee sound (ie [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Kaylie[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f])
No flower names
No unisex…very girlish names only
No names that begin with A, or S.
Nothing too popular (outside of top 20 or so is okay)
Our last name begins with an M if that helps.
I have gone through every name I can find, so I am desperate. Please though, do not be offended if we do not choose any from here. It has been a long and difficult name road and I just wouldn’t be surprised if there were zero names that we agree on. In fact, if you don’t even bother trying, I will understand. As I said, a real challenge…
Thanks for the suggestions. [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] is a family name, and cannot be used. There are a few names which don’t sound right with our last name. [name_f]My[/name_f] favorite from the list is [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], but doubt that my husband would agree to it. [name_m]Worth[/name_m] a try though!
Since your husband seems to be the difficult one, have you asked him to make a list of names he does like? I would put three of your favorites and three of his favorites into nymbler and ask him to make a list that way. It may not be a bad idea to consider [name_f]Grace[/name_f] as the first name either.
ETA: Another thing… I think that you and your husband should look at your list of criteria and reconsider which points are absolute musts and which points are preferences. Limiting your selection like you have can make finding the name all the more difficult.
I emailed him to see if he will use [name_f]Grace[/name_f] as a first name, but no reply yet. So not sure. As far as his name preferences go, he has given me a list and I strongly disliked every single name on it. I do agree though that we need to prioritize our criteria. I think that what may sadly have to happen is that we each draw up a list of a set number of names, and then the other person picks their most like-able name on it. Then put both in a hat and choose that way. We are just sooooo different in our name preferences. Luckily, this is really the only major thing that we ever disagree on, or have, in our 14 years of marriage. In every other way, we are so compatible. Makes this even harder:)
I suggested [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] but he worries that people would call her [name_f]Evie[/name_f]. And he does not like names ending in an eeee sound. I adore many names on your lists. Our first daughter, [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], goes by the nickname [name_f]Ella[/name_f], so that rules out [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Isla[/name_f], which we both like, because [name_f]Isla[/name_f] sounds too much like [name_f]Ella[/name_f]. I just emailed him and asked him about [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] with the nickname [name_f]Nora[/name_f], so we shall see! I worry though that the beginning of [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] is too similar to [name_f]Ella[/name_f]. He does not like [name_f]Grace[/name_f] enough for a first name,
His suggestions have been few…admittedly he doesn’t like many girls names in general:( The one he most recently suggested was [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f], but I do not like it very much.
Thanks for your help ladies. If nothing else, it reaffirmed that I have tried hard and that we need to re-prioritize our criterion.
If he likes [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] what about [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]? Similarities to [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] and [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] and I think it fits well enough with [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].
If he likes [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f], he and you could like:
[name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwyneira[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwen[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f]/[name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f]/[name_f]Gwendoline[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwenore[/name_f]/[name_f]Gwenora[/name_f]/Gwynore/Gwynora
I had no luck coming up with names based on [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], except for true classics like [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]/[name_f]Katherine[/name_f], [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_f]Claire[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_f]Victoria[/name_f], and [name_f]Madeline[/name_f], so I jumped on the [name_f]Gwen[/name_f]/[name_u]Gwyn[/name_u] train…
