i saw one of these threads but it’s long dead but i really do like the idea a lot of a long character-based story, so here we gooo!! if this doesn’t get any replies, forget i posted credits to @anon68597861

No obligation, just fun! No need to be a writer, just be a person who can think like a person. Basically, make a story but only “play” one character. Include actions and words, but keep your thoughts to yourself to make it more realistic!
of course this can be as fluid as we want it to be, and there’s no obligation to stick to one character! i’ll start with a character dialogue and you guys can all respond. love y’all
“I looked very out of place in the pastoral setting of this town. It wasn’t something I’d ever been used to- tree-lined streets, long dirt roads snaking around the edges of the town. I could taste the dirt on my tongue, my feet squishing in the hot [name_u]June[/name_u] mud. I wiped the beads of sweat off my brow and inhaled, pulling my red hair with it’s obvious brown roots back into a greasy ponytail. I exhaled. Nobody here is going to figure out who I am, and I’ll keep it that way.”
You can start however you’d like, with a dialogue in response to the one above!! (be sure to introduce your character too, you can name her however you’d like or base her off anything you want!)
(A different one!! You could post something like “hey, I’ve never seen you around town” what is she doing here or “I’ve never seen that girl before-) sorry for not rlly explaining the rules, I just saw some dead game on here and thought it would be fun
A tall, fair-haired young woman, roughly around the age of twenty-one saw the red-headed girl standing aimlessly on the street, lost in thought. Her welcoming nature compelled her to greet the mysterious stranger. “Excuse me?” she said with a smile. “Are you new around these parts? I haven’t seen you here before, and I wanted to come say hi.” The girl’s friendly demeanor put the red-headed girl slightly more at ease, but she still possessed an edge of uncertainty. “Yeah, I’m new here” she said with a nervous laugh. "I’m [name_f]Jillian[/name_f], but you can also call me [name_f]Jill[/name_f]. " said the fair-haired girl with a friendly tone. “Would you like me to show you around? It’s a real friendly town, so I’d like to introduce you to everyone. I’ve lived here all my life, and I can tell you, its a wonderful place to settle down.” The red-headed girl gave a weak smile. [name_f]Jill[/name_f] paused momentarily. “Excuse me for all the talking - I’m afraid it’s just part of my disposition…” she said with a laugh. “I should be really asking more about you.” “Oh, really, no need…” said the redheaded girl shyly. “So, what’s your name?” said [name_f]Jill[/name_f] with a smile. The redhead froze momentarily.
“I…” she paused momentarily. When she’d run away from home, she didn’t think about what her name would be. Everybody at home knew her by one name, one she needed to distance herself from if she wanted to survive. “Umm…” she tried stalling. How had I never thought of a name? She shuffled around, and wished the labyrinthine dirt roads would open and she’d fall through a hole, disappearing forever. Without thought, she blurted out the first name she could think of.
“My name is [name_f]Isla[/name_f] Parker.”
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] had been her best friend’s name in second grade, and [name_u]Parker[/name_u] was a street back home, though not the one she’d grown up in. [name_f]Isla[/name_f]…she thought to herself over and over again, repeating the sound in her head to get a feel of it. “And yes, I would love to be shown around.”
“Isla is such a pretty name!” said Jill with a beaming smile. “It’s a small town, but there’s a lot to show you. I’ll introduce you to some of the others in the town. Jill checked her wristwatch. 2:00 PM. Most people normally go down to the cafe for dinner at 6:30, but in the meantime, I’ll give you a general tour around the town.” Isla nodded, and followed Jillian’s lead as they walked through the main street. “This is the General Store” said Jill when they arrived at a building with Farrell’s written on the overhead sign. “Established 1933.” Jill informed Isla as the approached nearer to the store. “The Farrell family run the store - Rick and Mary, they must be in their mid 50’s now, and their children Theresa, Benjamin, and Alice who are about our age. Alice is a bit younger, though. They’re probably all in the shop right now - let’s introduce you!” They walked up the small steps, and a bell rang as they entered into the store. A kindly older woman, who Isla assumed to be Mary was serving customers, and a dark-haired handsome younger woman was organising shelves. “Good afternoon Mrs. Farrell” said Jill politely as she entered the store. “Hi, Theresa!” cried Jill. "I’ve got someone I’d like you to meet. She took the red-haired girl who was slightly bewildered by Jill’s forthright approach in her arm to the dark-haired young woman. “This is Isla.”
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] stuck out her hand awkwardly, staring into the woman’s eyes not because she was mesmerized by her, but because she didn’t know where else to stare. “Hello. [name_f]My[/name_f] name is [name_f]Isla[/name_f], I’m new here. I’m 19 years old.” This was a lie- Isla’s pimply face and acne scars placed her closer to 16 or 17. “It’s so nice to meet you, ma’am,” she said , dipping her head in respect. [name_f]Theresa[/name_f] nodded, and [name_f]Isla[/name_f] let out a breath she didn’t know she’d been holding in for all that time. She was finally away from…them, though it wouldn’t be long before they found her again.
Moments later, they were interrupted by a tall young man with dark messy hair, and strikingly bright blue eyes. He came out of the storage room with two bottles of milk, one in each hand - most likely to place in the cool refrigerators of the store. He saw [name_f]Jill[/name_f], a close friend, and his sister [name_f]Theresa[/name_f] huddled around a newcomer - a red headed girl he had never seen before.
“What’s all this?” said [name_u]Benjamin[/name_u] as he walked towards them. “Ben, this is [name_f]Isla[/name_f] - she’s new to town”. He surveyed the newcomer closely. [name_f]Isla[/name_f] felt his eyes cut into her, past the wall of protective security that she had built for herself. She was worried that he would know the truth just by looking at her, and her chance at her new life would come crumbling down before her. After a few seconds, he regained a friendly look. “Isla, it’s nice to meet you,” he said with a grin. “I see Jillian’s already gotten stuck into you - she’s like that, our [name_f]Jill[/name_f]. Always the social butterfly.” he added this lightheartedly. “Ben!” [name_m]Said[/name_m] [name_f]Jill[/name_f] with mock indignation. He was like a brother to her. “So where do you hail from, Isla?”
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] froze in the presence of [name_m]Ben[/name_m]. He had such an intimidating air to him, his icy eyes seeming to freeze her in time. And yet, she felt like she’d seen him before, details of his face coming to her mind in memories she didn’t know she had. She shook the thought away. She couldn’t possibly know anyone from this town. Maybe it was just his suspicion that scared her. “Hello, [name_u]Benjamin[/name_u], it’s nice to meet you.”
She froze again, her eyes flicking from face to face, all of them adopting an expression of confusion. She felt her knees wobbling with fear, and thought to herself, please, keep your composure. She bit her nail, which were all already raggedy from years of biting. She’d kept her composure in the face of adversity, thousands of times, and there was no way she couldn’t do it now. “Uh…I’m from the big city. Yes.” And just like that, [name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_u]Parker[/name_u] (or whatever her name was) had managed to keep her secret behind wraps, at least for a few more seconds. As she watched expressions of recognition settle into all of them, her knees stopped wobbling.
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] smiled uneasily, then looked to [name_m]Ben[/name_m]. [name_f]Isla[/name_f] had always been good at reading people, studiously and quietly observing and analyzing them. But [name_u]Benjamin[/name_u] was so difficult to read. Was he onto her?
“I’m surprised actually,” said [name_u]Benjamin[/name_u]. [name_f]Isla[/name_f] froze again. “City folk normally never come around these parts - but it’s glad to see you’re an exception - [name_f]Isla[/name_f], right?” She nodded slowly. “Besides, I don’t blame you, anyone would get sick of that city smog if they lived there long enough.” [name_f]Isla[/name_f] felt a sense of relief wash over her.
“Anyway,” said [name_m]Ben[/name_m], looking down at the milk bottles in his hands. “I’ll have to leave you girls to it, I’ve got this milk to put in refrigeration. [name_f]Jill[/name_f], show [name_f]Isla[/name_f] to more exciting places than here, will ya?”
[name_f]Jill[/name_f] nodded, her cheeks flushing red.
“Rita, do you want to come as well?”
[name_f]Theresa[/name_f] nodded, her dark green eyes shining with relief.“Anything to escape these shelves!”
And so, the three of them went out onto the main street chatting and attempting to get to know the reserved [name_f]Isla[/name_f]. Then suddenly, they were approached by a figure.
[name_u]Raine[/name_u] burst into the street, heart pounding in their chest. They glanced both ways, trying to put themselves into Suki’s mind. Where would she go? They ran to the left, glancing in Miss Jessica’s flower bed as they passed—she loved chasing butterflies. As usual, the flowers were bright and colorful, their open mouths reaching towards the sun. No sign of trampling. [name_u]Raine[/name_u] huffed, mostly at themself and their own carelessness, but continued on.
“Suki?” they called as they moved down the street in a hybrid speed walk-skip. “Suki!”
The wind played with their hair, which hung in light waves down their back—an overgrown bob that they desperately wanted to cut but couldn’t before they thought of a way to reinvent themself. They’d recent touched up the roots so it matched the indigo color. In their haste, they hadn’t changed out of their [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] loungewear, meaning everyone in the neighborhood got to witness their High School Class of 2017 sweatshirt and leggings with a small hole in the butt. They didn’t care, or at least didn’t let themself care.
[name_u]Man[/name_u], and they’d felt so productive that morning. They woke up before noon, made themself a parfait with yogurt and pomegranate—turns out they don’t even like pomegranate, but it made them feel competent and put-together like those smiling protein powder-selling influencer girls on Instagram, and not like a 23-year-old preschool teacher who lived each day hoping an agent would accept their graphic novel concept and offer them a contract for enough money to move to the city. They’d taken their parfait and a novel outside, and didn’t even think about hunting down a [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] marathon on TV for a mindless activity instead.
Then they left the backdoor open while they washed their bowl. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though they know [name_f]Suki[/name_f] would escape given the opportunity. How could they be so careless?
Around the corner, on the main street, three young women stood on a corner, gossiping. [name_u]Raine[/name_u] approached them, gasping like they smoked a pack a day (cardio was never their cup of tea).
“Excuse me!” they asked. As soon as they stopped, they had to hunch over their knees to catch their breath before continuing. Yup, the girls probably thought they were a crazy person. “I need some help. [name_f]My[/name_f] cat, [name_f]Suki[/name_f], slipped out of the house this morning. She’s a tabby… white with light orange stripes. Have you seen her?”
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] looked the purple-haired stranger up and down, a sense of overwhelming relief overcoming her. It wasn’t someone from back home, or at least she didn’t think so. “No, “ [name_f]Isla[/name_f] breathed, still possessing an edge of caution and wariness. “Actually, I’m new to town. [name_f]Jill[/name_f] here’s giving me a tour of this place.” She tan a hand through her hair, the color of a ripe red strawberry or a fire hydrant. “Isla Parker,” [name_f]Isla[/name_f] said, sticking out her hand. She was still getting used to the name, repeating it in her hand, often murmuring it to herself in her thoughts, in hopes that it would stick and replace her old name. In hopes that [name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_u]Parker[/name_u] would become her new home.
“Raine,” the stranger introduced themself, taking Isla’s handshake. [name_f]Isla[/name_f] was confused at them, their willingness to trust [name_f]Isla[/name_f]. For all they knew, she could steal all their money and leave them alone in the dark. But they trusted her. [name_m]Just[/name_m] as [name_f]Isla[/name_f] was about to dismiss [name_u]Raine[/name_u] with a sorry I couldn’t help, friendly [name_f]Jill[/name_f] smiled and said “we’d love to help find your cat, Raine.” And now, their fates were intertwined forever.
“What does this cat look like and where do you think she’d go?” [name_f]Jill[/name_f] asked [name_u]Raine[/name_u] warmly.
[name_f]Ashleigh[/name_f] ran into the coffee shop. She ran up to her best friend, [name_f]Jill[/name_f], out of breath. “Hey! [name_f]Jill[/name_f]? Have you seen Hunter?”. [name_u]Hunter[/name_u] was her little brother and she was supposed to be babysitting him after he came home from school. Except he never came home. “No, why?” [name_f]Jill[/name_f] replied. “I’m supposed to be babysitting him but he never came home! I’m going to be in so much trouble!” [name_f]Ashleigh[/name_f] shivered with the thought of being grounded. She looked out at the sky. She was scared. About [name_u]Hunter[/name_u], about being grounded, and something else too. Such a big secret, even her best friend didn’t know. In the middle of her thoughts, she finally noticed a red-haired girl. The girl stuck out her hand. “Hi! [name_f]My[/name_f] name’s [name_f]Isla[/name_f] Parker!” the girl said. [name_f]Ashleigh[/name_f] reluctantly shook her hand. She thought about the secret for a while. She was moving.
Not just across the city. [name_f]Ashleigh[/name_f] was moving from [name_u]California[/name_u], all the way to [name_u]New[/name_u] [name_u]Zealand[/name_u]. “Hey, [name_f]Jill[/name_f], I’m mov-” Suddenly someone new burst into the small coffee shop.
[name_u]Raine[/name_u] exhaled, partly from relief and partly from catching their breath. “She’s a tabby,” they said. “And she’s only a year old so she’s still really small. I rescued her from a shelter so I don’t know exactly what breed she is.”
[name_f]Jill[/name_f] smiled. “And you said she was white and orange?”
[name_u]Raine[/name_u] nodded, then tried to pull in a full breath. It was going to be okay, they had help now. Surely three pairs of eyes would be better than one.
“Mostly white,” they replied. “She has some light orange stripes along her back and on her tail. Oh, and she has a little nick in her left ear.” They pinched their own ear, accidentally yanking the hoop in their cartilage piercing.
“How long ago did she get out?” [name_f]Isla[/name_f] asked softly, almost like she was hesitant to speak. Her voice was a little different than before and her expression blanked. Choosing her words carefully. Not that [name_u]Raine[/name_u] could blame her. They weren’t fond of strangers either.
[name_u]Raine[/name_u] bit their lip. They were going to judge them. How could someone go almost an hour without realizing their pet was missing? [name_f]Suki[/name_f] was like their baby; if a parent lost track of their baby for an hour, someone would call child protective services. But if they lied then it would be more difficult to find [name_f]Suki[/name_f].
“About an hour,” [name_u]Raine[/name_u] admitted. “She loves flowers and chasing butterflies. I’ve been checking the gardens in my neighborhood but haven’t had any luck.”
“I… might’ve seen her. Might not have. She was only a blur.” [name_f]Ashleigh[/name_f] replied. “I was feeding my dogs then they started barking and I think I might’ve seen her run through the fence, across the road, and into the high school. Then I realised my brother was missing so I came here.” She exhaled. That was a long speech. “Oh thank you, thank you so much!” [name_u]Raine[/name_u] exclaimed. She ran off and [name_f]Ashleigh[/name_f] looked to the ground. “Is anything wrong, Ash?” [name_f]Jill[/name_f] asked. She shook her head. [name_f]Jill[/name_f] didn’t need to know now. “Let’s sit down. The chairs are better than standing.” [name_f]Ashleigh[/name_f] exclaimed. The three girls sat down and stared out the window.
