A sister for Amelia

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone,
This is my first post here, but I am really impressed with all the responses and recommendations I’ve seen. I have one little girl, [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], who will be almost 2 when her little sister arrives soon. I’ve been agonizing over a name. I don’t really want another “A” name, or anything sounding too similar ([name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]). I am also trying to steer away from anything TOO popular. I love classic, somewhat old-fashioned names. Lastly, I want at least a two (preferably more) syllable name to go with our one-syllable last name. I’m not picky, am I???

I am currently considering the following four names, though I’m not sold on any of them yet. What does everyone think? I welcome any thoughts, suggestions, comments or critiques! [name_f]TIA[/name_f]!

[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_u]Meredith[/name_u]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f]

[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] are beautiful together! Classic, elegant, feminine but not dated - I feel [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] is a bit more dated, but [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] might be another option ? I’m not a fan of [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] but it’s a very personal thing. I really like [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] but it doesn’t sound as nice as [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] with [name_f]Amelia[/name_f].
Have you considered [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] ? [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] ? [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] ? [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] ? They all have the same vintage-yet-timeless feel as [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] (to my ears at least).

[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] are my favorites to go with [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. Another thought was [name_f]Violet[/name_f].

I love [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] - gorgeous combination!
Some other ideas:
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Juliette[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_u]Vivian[/name_u]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Stella[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Cecily[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Camille[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Louise[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]

I love [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. It might depend on how much you like the [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] nn like [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] or [name_u]Charley[/name_u]. To me, [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] and Gywneth are not as feminine as [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. What about [name_f]Florence[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] or [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]. I also like [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] ([name_f]Tilly[/name_f] if you want to avoid another ‘a’ ending).

I think all of those names go well with [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], but I especially love [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f]! I think it’s beautiful and it reminds me of fairies. Also, it’s not common but at the same time it’s recognisable thanks to [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] Paltrow.

[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]/[name_f]Rosaline[/name_f]
[name_f]Selene[/name_f]
[name_u]Vivian[/name_u]

I like [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f], but I think [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] & [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] would be even better. Based on your ideas, here are some more names you might like:

[name_f]Cecily[/name_f]
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f]
[name_f]Christabel[/name_f]
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]
[name_f]Natalie[/name_f]
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f]

[name_f]Catherine[/name_f]
[name_f]Victoire[/name_f]

[name_u]Piper[/name_u]
[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]
[name_u]Florentine[/name_u]
[name_f]Rachel[/name_f]
[name_f]Gillian[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]
[name_f]Isobel[/name_f]
[name_u]Teagan[/name_u]
[name_f]Mathilde[/name_f]
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f]
[name_f]Marguerite[/name_f]
[name_f]Leontine[/name_f]
[name_f]Verity[/name_f]
[name_f]Brigitte[/name_f]
[name_f]Astrid[/name_f]

[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] are matching and beautiful sounding.

I like [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] together. I also like [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Mary[/name_f], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Margot[/name_f], and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Laura[/name_f] (although it does end in an a).

My favourite from your list is [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], followed by [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f]. [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] and [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] were traditionally unisex and don’t have particularly feminine sounds unlike the somewhat frilly [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], so don’t go as well with it [name_f]IMO[/name_f].

Suggestions (sorry for repeats):
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]/[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_m]Julian/name_ma
[name_f]Helen/name_f
[name_f]Victoria[/name_f]
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f]
[name_f]Philippa[/name_f]
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f]
[name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f]

[name_u]MEREDITH[/name_u]!!! [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] compliment each other so nicely. I also like the classy [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] with [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. [name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] is not my style at all and I don’t think it compliment [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] very well. [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] makes me think of the horrible Goop.

A few suggestions:
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f]
[name_f]Philippa[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]
[name_f]Victoria[/name_f]

I like [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] the best  I also suggest :

[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] & [name_f]Isobel[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] & [name_f]Isaline[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] & [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] & [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] (I personally love this combo the best)
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] & [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]-[name_f]Anne[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] & [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]

Thanks everyone for your opinions and all the great suggestions!! [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] was my favorite, and it seems that it has the majority vote here as well. My only concern is that I know it’s pretty popular…

I am leaning toward [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] for her middle name. What does everyone think of the following choices? (BTW, my first DD is [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u].)

[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]

[name_m]Feel[/name_m] free to suggest any others that you think would go well! Thanks again!!

I too find [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] quite popular…do you like just [name_f]Lotte[/name_f]? I also like [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] as a first name!

From your combos here I prefer [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] or [name_f]Frances[/name_f] in the middle as they are less common than the others…particularly if the first name is fairly popular a more unusual middle is a good idea.

a few more ideas for you…
[name_f]Camille[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecile[/name_f]
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f]
[name_f]Clarice[/name_f]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f]
[name_f]Corinne[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]
[name_u]Simone[/name_u]
[name_f]Emmaline[/name_f]

Anything appeal?

Immediately after reading the title, I thought “Amelia and Charlotte, definitely.” The only other names I can think of are Eleanor and Caroline (another version of Charlotte, anyway). Both are lovely, but I think Amelia and Charlotte are perfectly matched. They are beautiful, classic, familiar names that are close in popularity (not insanely popular, but definitely not rare), both obviously feminine, easy to spell and say, and both have strong, grounded meanings, which I like.

Amelia and Charlotte
Amelia and Eleanor
Amelia and Caroline

I think Jocelyn, Meredith and Gwyneth are all okay, but they don’t match Amelia for some reason. Gwyneth feels to old somehow, and so does Meredith. Jocelyn feels too flighty. This isn’t to say I don’t like the names themselves, they just don’t feel like Amelia’s little sister to me.

P.S. Charlotte Eliza is PERFECTION. I know Charlotte was in the Top 20 at #19, but Amelia was #23 in 2012, so not far off. Also, #19 in 2012 is not like being #19 in, say, 1987. The #19 name in 1987 was Emily, with 14,706 babies. Emily ranked at #6 in 2012, with 13,550 girls, so, less babies, but higher in ‘popularity,’ at least according to the official list. In 2012, Charlotte was given to 7,418 little girls - barely over half as many Emilys in either 1987 or 2012. So, just because it’s ‘popular’ this year, doesn’t mean she’ll be one of five Charlottes in her class. Maybe there will be one, maybe not, but it definitely isn’t a guarantee.

[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and:

[name_f]Alma[/name_f], [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f], [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Elsa[/name_f], [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], [name_u]Leslie[/name_u], [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], [name_f]Miriam[/name_f], [name_f]Naomi[/name_f], [name_f]Nina[/name_f], [name_f]Regina[/name_f], [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]

Thanks so much, everyone!! This is helping me tremendously. I love both [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], but these are the names of my best friend’s daughter and my niece, respectively.

I think we have decided that [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u]'s little sister will be [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]. Does anyone else have any opinions? I welcome any/all input! Thanks again!!

Bumping for a few more opinions
