A sister for Charles Everett--brainstorm

Hey, so this post has no urgency as we are not yet pregnant with our 2nd, however, we [name_f]DO[/name_f] know we want a 2nd. Our son is [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_u]Everett[/name_u]. We call him [name_u]Charlie[/name_u]. His name is an honor name but we also knew we loved the name [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] and have not found any other name that even comes close.
The idea of finding a name we love as much is daunting and it stresses me out to think of naming another baby (other name nerds relate?) and I thought a brainstorm could be fun.

Names we have considered (but don’t seem like the ‘one’):
[name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] (spelling bothers me…don’t know if I want an ‘annie’)
[name_f]Ada[/name_f] (getting popular? too close to all the ava/eva, etc?)
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] (an honor name but the grandmother was not beloved necessarily so could be odd plus I think it’s getting too popular)
[name_f]Tess[/name_f]–like, don’t love. Seems like a nickname
[name_f]Noemi[/name_f]–too odd/different with [name_u]Charlie[/name_u]?
[name_f]Zoey[/name_f]–popularity
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f]–nixed by partner
[name_f]Stella[/name_f]–can’t help but think of [name_f]STELLA[/name_f]!!! from streetcar
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]–like/don’t love, should probably do [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f], but I don’t like that for some reason
[name_f]Paige[/name_f]–nixed by partner
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]–partner says too boring, but I like the idea of an [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], no nickname. I feel like I don’t meet kid Elizabeths these days
[name_f]Sena[/name_f]–pronounced ‘seena’, but would keep this spelling b/c it’s an honor name, but that’s part of my issue and also I think it’s an odd choice with [name_u]Charlie[/name_u], but my mom lobbies for it hard and I know it’s my choice, but I’d love to make my mom happy. I just don’t love it the way I wish I did.

Other names I like but that are out for a variety of reasons: [name_f]Kiera[/name_f], [name_f]Cara[/name_f], [name_u]Sasha[/name_u], [name_f]Anya[/name_f], [name_f]Mila[/name_f], [name_f]Lila[/name_f] ([name_f]LOVE[/name_f] this one, so sad it’s out)

Ideas? I generally like classic, older, but with cute nickname options, but doesn’t have to completely follow that as you can see some are all over the map. I don’t like gender neutral names. I know [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] is being used by girls, but that’s part of why he’s [name_m]Charles[/name_m], which we do call him occasionally.

Thanks!

[name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_u]Everett[/name_u] is very handsome. I like [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Ada[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]/[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Stella[/name_f] from your list. I think more traditional/classic and vintage names pair well with [name_m]Charles[/name_m].

[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]/[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f]/[name_f]Marguerite[/name_f]
[name_f]Roberta[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]/[name_f]Lucille[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f]
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Helen[/name_f]/[name_f]Helena[/name_f]
[name_f]Georgina[/name_f]
[name_f]Frances[/name_f]
[name_f]Katherine[/name_f]
[name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]
[name_f]Veronica[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Alexandra[/name_f]
[name_f]Madeleine[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f]/[name_f]Hannah[/name_f]/[name_f]Annabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Isabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Augusta[/name_f]
[name_u]Vivian[/name_u]
[name_f]Rose[/name_f]/[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]/[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]
[name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Jane[/name_f]

I agree with @mischa —*[name_m]Charles[/name_m]/[name_u]Charlie[/name_u] works best with traditional, elegant names.

Comments // Ideas:

[name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] —*I feel [name_f]Anne[/name_f]/[name_f]Annie[/name_f] is almost inevitable, unless you call her by an alternative nickname ([name_u]Allie[/name_u], [name_u]Lisa[/name_u]). // [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f], [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f], [name_f]Elise[/name_f], [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f].
[name_f]Ada[/name_f] —*I don’t think popularity is an issue here. // [name_f]Adele[/name_f], [name_f]Adela[/name_f], [name_f]Ida[/name_f].
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] — Rising in popularity; works wonderfully with [name_m]Charles[/name_m] but I agree it might be awkward to name your child after someone you didn’t exactly love. You can always come up with a different reason (e.g. “she’s named after [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Earhart[/name_f]”). // [name_f]Amalia[/name_f], [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f], [name_f]Amabel[/name_f], [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f].
[name_f]Tess[/name_f] —*Too nicknamey. // [name_f]Theresa[/name_f], [name_f]Theresia[/name_f], [name_f]Therese[/name_f].
[name_f]Noemi[/name_f] —*I think it works fine with [name_u]Charlie[/name_u], but it doesn’t have the same international & secular appeal. // Noëlle, [name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_f]Amy[/name_f].
[name_f]Zoey[/name_f] —Popular, especially this trendy spelling. // [name_m]Zo[/name_m]ë, [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f], Chloë, [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] ([name_u]Joey[/name_u]), [name_f]Rose[/name_f] ([name_f]Rosie[/name_f]).
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] // [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Elise[/name_f], [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Eliana[/name_f], [name_f]Eliane[/name_f], [name_f]Lyra[/name_f].
[name_f]Stella[/name_f] —
[name_f]Lovely[/name_f] but rising in popularity. // [name_f]Estella[/name_f], [name_f]Estelle[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Sibella[/name_f], [name_f]Fiorella[/name_f], [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], [name_f]Luna[/name_f], [name_f]Aurora[/name_f].
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] —*works fine as a stand alone name, since it’s the [name_m]French[/name_m] form of [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]. // [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] ([name_f]Livie[/name_f]), Olivie, [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f], [name_f]Cecily[/name_f], [name_f]Cecile[/name_f], [name_f]Cecilie[/name_f], [name_f]Eve[/name_f] ([name_f]Evie[/name_f]).
[name_f]Paige[/name_f] —Too trendy & modern next to [name_m]Charles[/name_m]. // [name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_f]Patience[/name_f], [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] ([name_u]Penny[/name_u]), [name_f]Hope[/name_f], [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_f]Joan[/name_f].
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] —
[name_f]Lovely[/name_f], classic, timeless, versatile: the perfect name. Fits [name_m]Charles[/name_m] to a tee. // Nicknames: [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Lillie[/name_f], [name_f]Libby[/name_f], Liddy, [name_f]Bess[/name_f], [name_f]Elsa[/name_f], [name_f]Elsie[/name_f].
[name_f]Sena[/name_f] —*Too unusual & classic next to charles. The pronunciation is confusing (I think people would say [name_f]SEN[/name_f]-a). Maybe as a nickname? // [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] ([name_f]Sena[/name_f]), [name_f]Selena[/name_f], [name_f]Celina[/name_f].

[name_f]Kiera[/name_f]: [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_f]Katharina[/name_f], [name_f]Chiara[/name_f]
[name_f]Cara[/name_f]: [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Lara[/name_f], [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] ([name_f]Mara[/name_f])
[name_u]Sasha[/name_u]: [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] ([name_u]Sasha[/name_u]), [name_f]Natasha[/name_f], [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]
[name_f]Anya[/name_f]: [name_f]Antonia[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Mila[/name_f]: [name_f]Camilla[/name_f], [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Lila[/name_f]: [name_f]Lyra[/name_f], [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] ([name_f]Lola[/name_f]?)

[name_f]Tess[/name_f] is lovely with [name_u]Charlie[/name_u]! What about [name_f]Esther[/name_f] or [name_f]Theresa[/name_f] as a full name?

[name_f]Bethany[/name_f]/[name_f]Beth[/name_f] and [name_m]Charles[/name_m]/[name_u]Charlie[/name_u] would also be lovely.

Other possibilities:
[name_f]Lorelei[/name_f]
[name_f]Laurel[/name_f]
[name_f]Susannah[/name_f]

Thanks for the responses! From your list [name_u]Mischa[/name_u], I like [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] (but can’t because it’s a good friend’s child), [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f], and [name_f]Hannah[/name_f]. [name_m]How[/name_m] do you say [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]? Is it a z or s? I’ve always been confused by that.

Sugarplumfairy thanks for all the ideas! I think it leads me to feel like my top contenders are [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. And maybe [name_f]Ada[/name_f].
I’m thinking about [name_f]Eve[/name_f]/[name_f]Evie[/name_f], [name_f]Myra[/name_f], [name_f]Amalia[/name_f] ([name_f]Molly[/name_f]?), [name_f]Chloe[/name_f], [name_f]Eliana[/name_f], [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u].
Middle name will likely be [name_f]Elise[/name_f] (unless we find a first name that just doesn’t work). I wish we could use this as first name as it’s after someone but someone else in our family has already used it as a first name.

kala_way, I like [name_f]Tess[/name_f] with [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] too, I just feel like I would like a longer more formal name and I’m not in love with the options (which I had mostly considered to be either [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] or some form of [name_f]Theresa[/name_f]).
I hadn’t thought of [name_f]Esther[/name_f]…I have to sit with that one. Could it grow on me and become cute like old lady name on little girl, or does it just stay old?
Which leads me to think of [name_f]Edith[/name_f] as a possibility, nn [name_f]Edie[/name_f]. [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] and [name_f]Edie[/name_f]. [name_m]Charles[/name_m] and [name_f]Edith[/name_f]. I feel like I’m on downton abbey! So fancy, ha.
Or [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]. Hmmm.

[name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_u]Everett[/name_u] and:

My first thought was [name_f]Julia[/name_f]…

maybe [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], nicknames could be [name_u]Julie[/name_u], jet, etta, jewel, jewels, etc

[name_u]Julianne[/name_u] or [name_f]Julianna[/name_f] ([name_u]Julie[/name_u] [name_f]Anna[/name_f] )

[name_f]Delilah[/name_f] …[name_f]Delle[/name_f], [name_f]Elle[/name_f], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], lyla ( lie + ah )

[name_f]Emmalyn[/name_f]

[name_f]Maya[/name_f] ( my.ah )

[name_f]Ruth[/name_f] nn ruthie

[name_f]Audrey[/name_f], [name_f]Bethany[/name_f], [name_u]Meredith[/name_u], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] nn [name_u]Josie[/name_u] or [name_f]Joy[/name_f]

[name_u]Joyce[/name_u] nn jojo or [name_f]Joy[/name_f]

[name_f]Natalia[/name_f]
[name_f]Naomi[/name_f]
[name_u]Vivian[/name_u]

[name_u]Halle[/name_u]
[name_f]Brielle[/name_f]
[name_f]Bella[/name_f]
[name_f]Kate[/name_f]

[name_f]Adalyn[/name_f]
[name_f]Eva[/name_f]
[name_f]Evie[/name_f]
[name_f]Ellen[/name_f]
[name_f]Elena[/name_f] ( [name_f]Elle[/name_f] lane ah )

[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
[name_f]Gemma[/name_f]
[name_f]Geneva[/name_f]
[name_f]Marielle[/name_f]
[name_f]Nia[/name_f] ( knee ah )

[name_f]Rebecca[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]
[name_f]Nola[/name_f]

I like [name_f]Julia[/name_f] or [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], but my wife is not fond of it. My wife’s name is [name_f]Elena[/name_f] which is a lovely name, but then obviously can’t be the name of a baby!
I like [name_f]Rose[/name_f]/[name_f]Rosie[/name_f] variations but…then there’s the “[name_u]Charlie[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]” connection that is weird.
I’m thinking about [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and [name_f]Naomi[/name_f].
My niece is [name_f]Katharine[/name_f], nn [name_f]Katie[/name_f] so any form of that is out.

I know siblings named [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] and [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f], which I think is so adorable!

[name_u]Charlie[/name_u] and [name_f]Lorelai[/name_f] is cute together, but I hate to admit that name makes me think of annoying [name_m]Gilmore[/name_m] girls character. Also not a big fan of nn [name_f]Lori[/name_f]/[name_u]Laurie[/name_u] which could happen. Any other ideas?

I immediately thought of the name [name_f]Rebekah[/name_f]. I think it sounds lovely with [name_m]Charles[/name_m].
Other suggestions
[name_f]Alexia[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelyn[/name_f]
[name_f]Maddison[/name_f]
[name_f]Lilian[/name_f]
[name_f]Elianna[/name_f]
[name_f]Aria[/name_f]
Evelette

[name_f]Rebekah[/name_f] or [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] IS lovely but I HATE [name_f]Becky[/name_f] which is bound to happen.
[name_f]Lillian[/name_f] is a nice suggestion and I love the nn [name_f]Lily[/name_f], but too popular?
I think of I wanted to end up with [name_f]Ada[/name_f] is simply go [name_f]Ada[/name_f] alone or maybe [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] like [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] which is also nice with [name_m]Charles[/name_m]?
My wife’s sister is [name_f]Elisa[/name_f] which is why we want to use [name_f]Elise[/name_f] as a middle name but it’s odd with e names or names ending in’a’ (like [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f].
I wish we could just use [name_f]Elise[/name_f]! But wife’s cousin already did which is why our front runner girl name for [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] had been [name_f]Annaliese[/name_f], which inevitably gives us [name_f]Annie[/name_f]. I just hope 2nd is another boy! Seems easier although I’ll likely post soon about ideas there, too.

I doubt your daughter would mind sharing her name with a second cousin. I would choose [name_f]Elise[/name_f]! My cousin wanted to name her daughter [name_f]Hannah[/name_f], my sister’s name. My cousin called my mom to ask if she minded. My mom thought this was very unnecessary and told her that of course it was fine. When extended family is all together, we call the younger [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] “[name_m]Little[/name_m] [name_f]Hannah[/name_f],” but it’s no big deal. Also, I have a cousin named [name_f]Elise[/name_f]. She is great and it’s a great name. If you just can’t share the name, what about [name_f]Elsa[/name_f]? It’s different but similar.

My dear friend is [name_f]Rebekah[/name_f], she never gets [name_f]Becky[/name_f]. She does however, get called Bekah, Bek and Beks. (I think that [name_f]Becky[/name_f] will only happen if you allow it, and you can control your child’s nn, most people will call her the name you introduce her as, or what you call her.)
I am not sure on the popularity of [name_f]Lilian[/name_f], I don’t know any. However, if you like [name_f]Lily[/name_f], there is the options of [name_f]Liliana[/name_f], [name_f]Lilith[/name_f], [name_f]Lilibet[/name_f]/Lilabeth.
I myself am partial to [name_f]Lilian[/name_f], as I love name meanings and this one means, innocent, purity, and beauty. All qualities that would be wonderful to instill in any young girl.

[name_f]Ada[/name_f], is nice. [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] is great too, and I think matches lovely with [name_m]Charles[/name_m]. Other names that are similar: [name_u]Addyson[/name_u], [name_f]Madeline[/name_f], [name_f]Ava[/name_f], [name_u]Avery[/name_u], Avaline, [name_u]Madison[/name_u].
I think [name_f]Elise[/name_f] is lovely, and if you love it use it! [name_f]Annaliese[/name_f] is nice too, and wont neccessarily become a [name_f]Annie[/name_f]. [name_f]Anna[/name_f] or Aliese, I think would come first…
Perhaps you like, [name_f]Alyse[/name_f]? Very similar name…
Others that are close would be [name_u]Ellis[/name_u], [name_u]Eliot[/name_u], [name_f]Ellen[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Eliana[/name_f], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_f]Alysa[/name_f], [name_u]Lisa[/name_u], [name_f]Melissa[/name_f], [name_f]Alicia[/name_f], [name_f]Alista[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f], or [name_u]Allison[/name_u] perhaps?

Maybe you like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]? [name_f]Lauren[/name_f]/[name_f]Laura[/name_f]/[name_u]Rory[/name_u]? [name_f]Jenna[/name_f]? [name_u]Kimberly[/name_u]/[name_f]Kimberlyn[/name_f]? [name_f]Cathleen[/name_f]? [name_f]Katelyn[/name_f]? [name_u]Joyce[/name_u]? [name_f]Adrianna[/name_f]? [name_f]Adrianne[/name_f]? [name_f]Jillian[/name_f]? [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]? [name_f]Meghan[/name_f]?

I thought it was interesting when I read your post about your son’s name, [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_u]Everett[/name_u]. I’m 6 months pregnant with a boy and that’s exactly what we are thinking of naming him. [name_m]Charles[/name_m] after my late grandfather and [name_u]Everett[/name_u] after my husband’s. I, like you, love traditional and strong names. I have a two year old daughter and I thought you might love her name. It is [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f] and we call her “[name_f]Maggie[/name_f].” I have a 9 year old son named [name_m]Jonas[/name_m], which is also traditional and strong.

I didn’t see that name on your list, but I wanted to share it with you.

[name_f]Natalie[/name_f]
