Hello, hello!
I am a total perennial wallflower here in the Nameberry forums—I’m here all the time, just very quiet! I really just like to peruse your naming prowess and pray a little bit rubs off onto me! But I’m overcoming my shyness and asking you to please help me; naming this baby is proving itself to be nearly impossible!
Our son’s name is [name_m]Eames[/name_m], and choosing his name was beautifully simple. [name_m]Eames[/name_m] (sounds like “Aims”) is easy to say, Irish, delectably handsome and lively, and honored Dad’s best friend and [name_m]Eames[/name_m]’s Godfather, [name_u]James[/name_u]. It’s been his name from the very beginning, and we are beyond pleased with our choice!
Naming this little one, our little girl, is proving to be far more difficult. Nothing feels right—though we have tried what feels like everything. She was [name_f]Clover[/name_f] for a few weeks, and then [name_f]Fiona[/name_f]. We liked [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], but feared it was too popular. We love [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], [name_f]Eabha[/name_f] and [name_f]Aoife[/name_f], but they’re too similar to [name_m]Eames[/name_m]. We like the look of [name_f]Talullah[/name_f] and the nickname [name_u]Lou[/name_u], but Dad (and much of Dad’s family) is Deaf, and so names that require that extra bit of verbal gymnastics are out. Though we are primarily voice-off at home, tongue-twisting names are off the table, especially since she may very well be Deaf, and if she chooses to be oral in any capacity, I don’t want her to be frustrated with her own name.
And so we are on the hunt for a sweet, quirky, and spunky name for [name_m]Eames[/name_m]’s sister, easy to say but not easy to forget! Please please feel free to suggest anything and everything—we need all the help we can get!!
What about Aowyn? (pronounced with the long A-Oh-[name_u]Win[/name_u]). The only reason I know about this name is because my friend named her baby that and I think it’s from [name_m]Lord[/name_m] of the Rings? I’m not sure if it’s Irish or if you are looking for another Irish name. It may also be considered a tongue twister? [name_m]Just[/name_m] a thought!
The name Éowyn is from [name_m]Lord[/name_m] of the Rings - from the name Aowyn which is an old english name that means “horse joy” (Éowyn’s people are skilled horsemen). I do think it might be a bit of a tongue twister in the deaf community but I also think it’s super cute!
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f] is my favorite from what you’ve listed. It’s been on my list for a while and if we ever have another girl it’s definitely a contender! I’m not sure if the HOH members of the family have ever mentioned this, but I know friends of mine say that J & CH names are difficult to distinguish and pronounce for them. [name_m]Just[/name_m] a thought.
I’m not sure if [name_f]Aine[/name_f] is too matchy for you with [name_m]Eames[/name_m], but I think it could be a nice option if you like [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] and [name_f]Aoife[/name_f]
