We need help finding a name for [name_f]Elsa[/name_f]’s sister. [name_f]Elsa[/name_f]’s birth name is [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Anneke[/name_f] and we’ve always called her [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] (as she was born pre-Frozen).
Some things that are important to us in finding a name for the little sister are:
• Have a Dutch/Scandinavian feel
• We like the idea of a more formal name and nickname option
• I’d like the nickname to have the same vintage, old lady feel that [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] does (or did, pre-Frozen)
When we were expecting [name_f]Elsa[/name_f], we were trying to decide between [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Cora[/name_f] (or [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f]/[name_f]Coraline[/name_f], shortened to [name_f]Cora[/name_f]). In the meantime, my brother used [name_f]Cora[/name_f] for his daughter, so I’m not comfortable using [name_f]Cora[/name_f] for our second girl. But, I’m having trouble finding a name that I love as much or feels as perfect as [name_f]Cora[/name_f], so I’d like input and ideas from you!
Some ideas for a first name:
[name_f]Juliana[/name_f] – will definitely need to specify a nickname (and not [name_f]Anna[/name_f]/[name_f]Ana[/name_f])
[name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] – this is my great-grandmother’s name. We could potentially use [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] for a nickname, since [name_f]Cora[/name_f] is out, but I like the idea of the nickname starting with the same letter as the formal name.
[name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] – I love the nickname [name_f]Willa[/name_f] but if we ever have a boy, our top choice for his name is [name_m]Willem[/name_m].
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Johanna[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Evelina[/name_f] – I love the meaning of this name (“wished for child”) but I think we want our children to have different initials.
Some ideas for a middle name:
[name_f]Esther[/name_f] – probably our top choice right now, as [name_f]Elsa[/name_f]’s middle name, [name_f]Anneke[/name_f], is after one of my husband’s grandmothers and [name_f]Esther[/name_f] is the name of his other grandma.
[name_u]Dean[/name_u] – my grandma’s middle name
[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f] – maybe use as a middle name since I feel we can’t use it for a first name?
Other ideas? I’m having the most trouble coming up with a first name… Thanks!
A J- nickname for [name_f]Juliana[/name_f] (other than [name_u]Jules[/name_u]) could be [name_u]June[/name_u]/[name_f]Junie[/name_f]. [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] and [name_f]Junie[/name_f] sound cute together.
But I really like [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] from your list as a FN ([name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] [name_f]Esther[/name_f], maybe?) or paired with [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] — [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f], nn. [name_u]Lou[/name_u] or [name_f]Lula[/name_f].
Firstly, I think [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] with the nickname [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] is gorgeous! All of the options you’re considering are similarly beautiful. I love the idea of [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Johanna[/name_f] ([name_f]Elsa[/name_f] and [name_u]Jo[/name_u]?) and [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] ([name_f]Elsa[/name_f] and [name_f]Rosie[/name_f]?). I also find [name_f]Juliana[/name_f] to be lovely, and some nn options: [name_u]Jules[/name_u], [name_u]Julie[/name_u].
Thank you! I really like [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] or [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] [name_f]Esther[/name_f]. We’ll see if we can get the hubby on board. I also like [name_f]Juliana[/name_f] if I can find the right nickname. [name_u]Jules[/name_u] or Julesy might work… We still have plenty of time to decide on a name but it’s been hard since I feel like our “perfect” name isn’t an option…
