A sister for Georgia

I accidentally put this in [name]Baby[/name] Names so I’m going to repost into Girls names.

My daughter [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Beatrice[/name] is going to be a big sister and I would love some thoughts/suggestions on some names. We are not sure if we will find out the sex (we didn’t with [name]Georgia[/name]).

I like names that are not too popular (actually [name]Georgia[/name]'s name made me a little nervous with it’s popularity rank… although so far we have never met another.)

GIRLS NAMES:

We love [name]Louise[/name] (my great-grandmother’s name) nn [name]Lou[/name]

and [name]Betty[/name] (my grandmother’s name who recently passed away), would probably call her [name]Birdie[/name].

I also am starting to love [name]Edith[/name] (nn [name]Edie[/name]) and [name]Esther[/name] (nn [name]Essie[/name]).

for MN I am loving [name]Sojourner[/name], [name]Josephine[/name], [name]Harriet[/name], [name]Agatha[/name], [name]Frances[/name].

Any thoughts on these? Suggestions?

Congratulations (= Your daughter’s name is lovely. Here are my thoughts…

[name]Louise[/name] is very royal sounding but pretty and simple - and I adore [name]Lu[/name] as a nickname!

[name]Betty[/name] is sweet. Although [name]Birdie[/name] IS incredibly cute, I would never have thought of using it as a nn for [name]Betty[/name]. You could always use [name]Betty[/name] as a nn for [name]Elizabeth[/name] or one of it’s more interesting variations - [name]Elizabet[/name], Annabeth, [name]Elsbeth[/name], [name]Lisbet[/name], [name]Bethany[/name]. I would have suggested [name]Beatrice[/name] with nn [name]Betty[/name] if you hadn’t used that!

[name]Edith[/name] nn [name]Edie[/name] is so lovely! I’ve never been a fan of [name]Esther[/name], for some reason, but [name]Essie[/name] is very cute!

A few others to consider:
Similar to [name]Louise[/name] = [name]Louisa[/name], [name]Claire[/name], [name]Helena[/name], [name]Diane[/name], [name]Alice[/name], [name]Irene[/name].
Similar to [name]Betty[/name]/[name]Birdie[/name] = [name]Bridget[/name], [name]Lucy[/name], [name]Bess[/name], [name]Dotty[/name] ([name]Dorothy[/name]?), [name]Kitty[/name], [name]Hattie[/name] ([name]Harriet[/name]?), [name]Lizzie[/name], [name]Chrissy[/name].
Similar to [name]Edith[/name] and [name]Esther[/name] = [name]Edda[/name], [name]Clara[/name], [name]Esme[/name], [name]Etta[/name] ([name]Violet[/name]?), Katrinka, [name]Lydia[/name], [name]Tess[/name] ([name]Teresa[/name]?), [name]Elsie[/name].

I love [name]Agatha[/name] and [name]Sojourner[/name] from your middle names! They’re brilliant!

I adore [name]Louise[/name], that is DD#2’s soon-to-be name and DS is [name]George[/name] so I think you have a perfect match there!

[name]Edith[/name] is my pick - very cool, but classy (think [name]Edith[/name] [name]Piaf[/name]!) and not too popular.

I like [name]Betty[/name], a lot, and think it is very cute, but I think it is almost a bit ‘try-hard’ cool and not sure how it would go for a professional adult, if you really like it I would consider having [name]Elizabeth[/name] for her full name and [name]Betty[/name] as nn?

Not sure about any of your mns with [name]Edith[/name], although I like them…Curve ball; what about [name]Edith[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]?

I love the idea of [name]Louise[/name], nn [name]Lou[/name], with [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Beatrice[/name]! [name]How[/name] cute. I really like [name]Louise[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] or [name]Louise[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] (to honor the [name]Betty[/name]?). I also really like [name]Edith[/name] [name]Josephine[/name], nn [name]Edie[/name]. You have a lot of great options!

I love [name]Birdie[/name] as well but would have never thought of [name]Betty[/name] as a full name for it–would you consider something like [name]Bridget[/name] (nn [name]Birdie[/name], or even [name]Bridie[/name]), and then maybe use a form of [name]Elizabeth[/name]/[name]Betty[/name] to honor the [name]Betty[/name]? I think [name]Bridget[/name] [name]Louise[/name] is equally lovely and would honor your great-grandmother.

I think [name]Lilibet[/name] is another lovely option–I believe it’s a form of [name]Elizabeth[/name], and I think you could use [name]Betty[/name] as a nn, or even [name]Birdie[/name], even though it’s a bit of a stretch. I think [name]Lilibet[/name] [name]Agatha[/name] or [name]Lilibet[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] would be lovely! I think [name]Georgia[/name] and [name]Lilibet[/name] would be so cute together.

Good luck!

I love the idea of [name]Edith[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]. So pretty.

Really though, all your names are great. I love [name]Birdie[/name] as a nickname for [name]Betty[/name]. I never would’ve thought of that. It works! [name]Louise[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] is really pretty as well. You definitely have a great list going here. I like the idea of [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Sojourner[/name] with [name]Betty[/name] as a nickname or [name]Esther[/name] [name]Josephine[/name]. [name]Edith[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] is my favorite though.

And I love [name]Georgia[/name]. Such a lovely name.

The combo of [name]Bridget[/name] [name]Louise[/name] is very nice.

I love your daughter’s name so much! I think that [name]Louise[/name] is nice, [name]Louisa[/name] is even nicer, but I like just plain [name]Lou[/name] best of all. [name]Betty[/name] is super cute. I also like [name]Betsy[/name], [name]Bernadette[/name] and [name]Bette[/name]. [name]Edith[/name] and [name]Esther[/name] are cute, but not for me. If I did use either I would probably use [name]Edie[/name] or [name]Essie[/name] almost exclusively. I like [name]Josephine[/name], prefer [name]Jolene[/name] or [name]Joan[/name]. I love [name]Frances[/name]. [name]Agatha[/name] is nice too.
[name]Lou[/name] [name]Bernadette[/name] would be my pick.

I too love all your names. [name]Louise[/name] is probably my first choice because of your family connection and because I have adorable twin nieces, [name]Georgia[/name] and [name]Louisa[/name], whose names seem to be perfect companions – but [name]Louise[/name] is probably even chicer now than [name]Louisa[/name]. My nieces call each other [name]Gigi[/name] and [name]Lulu[/name] which is great too.

I love [name]Betty[/name] and of course that was often used as a full name, but seems quite informal compared with [name]Georgia[/name]. And while [name]Edith[/name] and [name]Esther[/name] are both great too, I don’t think either of them have [name]Louise[/name] beat.

So [name]Louise[/name]…with any of those middle names is great!

I prefer [name]Louise[/name] out of all your options - though I prefer [name]Louisa[/name]. It makes me think of [name]Louisa[/name] [name]May[/name] [name]Alcott[/name] and the wonderful book [name]Little[/name] Women, which is fun because [name]Josephine[/name] is on you mn list, and that is where my thoughts go as well. [name]Jo[/name] was always my favorite character (besides [name]Teddy[/name], who I want to name a son after some day [among other Teddys - it really is just a great name association for me!]).
[name]Louisa[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] has a ring to it - though [name]Louise[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] is equally as pretty. I also liked the suggestion of [name]Bridget[/name] [name]Louise[/name] - a lovely combo.

Thank you all for your thoughts! [name]Louise[/name] is definitely my top choice at the moment… I can’t stop running it through my head. And while I love [name]Louisa[/name] in theory, it seems a little too “fancy” or something when I say it out loud, or something? My only thought is… with our last name Marks, does [name]Louise[/name] sound weird with it? [name]Both[/name] ending in s? I also like that is has a short little nickname “[name]Lou[/name]”, as we call [name]Georgia[/name], “[name]Bee[/name]” pretty often.

We’ve been catching up on the first season of Downton [name]Abbey[/name], so every week [name]Edith[/name] grows in my heart a little.

Right now the combos I’ve been turning around in my head a lot are:

[name]Louise[/name] [name]Sojourner[/name] (This MN has a lot of meaning for us in our faith)
[name]Louise[/name] [name]Agatha[/name] (This middle name is also something special for us as DH and both went to/met at [name]Texas[/name] A&M-- the Aggies-- a subtle homage)
[name]Edith[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] (my love of [name]Josephine[/name] is, as someone mentioned, rooted in my love of [name]Josephine[/name] [name]March[/name] of [name]Little[/name] Women

Any favorites out of these? And new suggestions are always welcome? Who knows what curve balls these preggo hormones might throw!

Well, I’m the one with the [name]Little[/name] Women love  and I love the combo [name]Edith[/name] [name]Josephine[/name].

As far as [name]Louise[/name] with your last name, I don’t think it is an issue. While they are both “s” sounds, they are a little different - at least how I pronounce them. [name]Louise[/name] is more of a “z” and Marks a definite “s”. [name]Louise[/name] Marks actually has quite a ring to it, [name]IMO[/name]. I’m not a fan of either of those [name]Louise[/name] combos. [name]Sojourner[/name], while lovely, is not my style. Something about [name]Louise[/name] [name]Agatha[/name] just doesn’t ring right with me. But I’m also sometimes too picky about the rhythm of names, haha. [name]Louise[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]/[name]Elisabeth[/name] has a good ring, and would be a way to honor your grandmother ([name]Betty[/name] being a nn of [name]Elizabeth[/name]).

And I still really love the combo of [name]Louise[/name] [name]Josephine[/name].

Can’t wait to hear what you decide!

I toy with [name]Louise[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] too, but for some reason when I say the full name I feel like all I’m saying is "S"es. [name]Just[/name] a weird hang up that I can’t shake. Who knows?

And [name]Louise[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] is lovely, I like to try and fit in some of those clunky, really old lady names that I would never use in the FN spot. And SO many people in my circle of friends have had [name]Elizabeth[/name] as a middle name so TO ME it seems like a filler in the middle. It really is such a lovely name so it’s a shame I have always seen it that way. Anyways, thanks for the thoughts. It helps me clarify my (muddled) thinking a little when others tell me what they think.

[name]Louise[/name] [name]Agatha[/name] has my vote. It’s so gorgeous.

[name]Savannah[/name] or [name]Augusta[/name] (my first thought) but I’d almost love to see you continue the state theme a la [name]Denver[/name] or something. I’m not sure I would go there but at least food for thought.
