A sister for Hanalei Esme

Hello fellow Berries!

I need your help.

I have a daughter that will be turning 2 almost 2 weeks after her baby sister’s birth.

Our eldest daughter’s name is Hanalei (pronounced ‘Haw-nah-lay’, after the bay in Kauai, we got married there and placed my mother’s ashes in the water), so it’s special to us. We call her ‘[name_f]Hana[/name_f]’ (Haw-na) for short often.

This second baby was a total surprise. And my husband and I can not agree on a name.

He is content calling her our second choice for our first daughter, Haviland. ‘[name_f]Hattie[/name_f]’ for short. I feel like it would be unkind to give her a name that we didn’t pick the first time around. Also, I don’t love ‘Haviland’ the way I did before…and I want her to have a different first initial to her sister?

The name I had in my head before I found out I was pregnant was [name_u]Brighton[/name_u]…no connection to any of the [name_u]Brighton[/name_u] beaches, but it’s also a place, and it just sounds effervescent. It makes me happy. But, my husband doesn’t like it. I am 80% sure I will just try to convince him, but there are some other names I like and things to consider that I’m wondering if you guys can get creative with me!

Here are the facts.

*This new baby was conceived in [name_u]Montana[/name_u]. I like the idea of ‘[name_u]Sky[/name_u]’ as a middle name for a nod to that. (You know, cause big sky country.)

*She is our 2nd little girl in [name_u]June[/name_u].

*Both of her grandmothers are no longer with us and their names started with E.
[name_f]Elyse[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].

Here are some other names I like.
[name_u]Brighton[/name_u] [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Elowen[/name_f] [name_u]Sky[/name_u]
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] [name_u]Sky[/name_u]

Tell me what you like and help me see something I don’t please!

Thank you in advance for your wisdom and kindness. <3

[name_f]Elowen[/name_f] [name_u]Sky[/name_u] and [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] [name_u]Sky[/name_u] are just perfect with Hanalei! They have a similar vibe: they’re melodic, feminine, strong names. [name_u]Brighton[/name_u] doesn’t seem to fit to be honest, and I see it as a boys’ name (the only [name_u]Brighton[/name_u] I’ve ever known is male). Haviland is interesting but it doesn’t sound like you love it anymore. I just think you need something lyrical to go with Hanalei, something like, in addition to [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] or [name_f]Elowen[/name_f], [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f], [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], [name_f]Seraphine[/name_f], [name_u]Juniper[/name_u], [name_f]Celine[/name_f], [name_f]Delilah[/name_f], [name_f]Astrid[/name_f], [name_f]Chiara[/name_f], [name_u]Indigo[/name_u], [name_f]Mathilda[/name_f], [name_f]Aveline[/name_f], [name_f]Isabeau[/name_f], [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] or [name_f]Delphine[/name_f].

I would move in from the names you don’t both love and I really like [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] [name_u]Sky[/name_u] on your list. With Hanalei [name_f]Esme[/name_f]…

[name_f]Allegra[/name_f]
[name_f]Delilah[/name_f]
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]
[name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]
[name_f]Alessia[/name_f]

Here’s the thing… [name_u]Sky[/name_u] is a great name and it’s lovely that you have a sweet connection to it but I know I would not appreciate being named for the place I was conceived. Sorry! I know that my conception is not something I want to think about. Personally, I would steer clear of that idea.

[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] are beautiful and match the lilting feel of Hanalei perfectly! I think [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] [name_u]Brighton[/name_u] would be a great choice. It’s so uplifting and, well, bright!

[name_f]Elowen[/name_f] and [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] are gorgeous

[name_f]Endellion[/name_f] [name_u]Sky[/name_u] (nn [name_f]Elle[/name_f] as a nod to grandparents. It’s also a place name)

[name_u]Holland[/name_u] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Holly[/name_f], [name_f]Hallie[/name_f] or Haddie)

[name_u]Sky[/name_u] [name_f]Elena[/name_f] ([name_u]Sky[/name_u] for [name_u]Montana[/name_u] and [name_f]Elena[/name_f] as a nod to [name_f]Helena[/name_f] (capital city of [name_u]Montana[/name_u]) and to your grandmothers

[name_u]Abilene[/name_u] [name_u]Sky[/name_u]

[name_f]Idalia[/name_f] [name_u]Sky[/name_u] (means sun -links to summertime)

[name_f]Eilidh[/name_f] [name_u]Sky[/name_u] (Ae-lee) (a nod to grandparents with a sunny meaning)

[name_f]Milana[/name_f] [name_u]Sky[/name_u]

[name_f]Elodie[/name_f] [name_u]Sky[/name_u]

[name_f]Astraea[/name_f] [name_u]Sky[/name_u]

[name_f]Ginevra[/name_f] [name_u]Sky[/name_u] ([name_f]Ginevra[/name_f] means means juniper and also an alternative name for [name_f]Geneva[/name_f])

[name_u]Juniper[/name_u] [name_u]Sky[/name_u] ([name_f]Junie[/name_f])

These are beautiful. Thank you all so much for these contributions!!! Can’t wait to share them with my husband. X

One that jumped into my mind was [name_f]Elisa[/name_f] [name_f]Elowen[/name_f]. I think it goes really well with Hanalei. [name_f]Elisa[/name_f] honors both grandmothers and [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] is just lovely
