We are choosing to be surprised with gender at delivery. We have one son, [name_m]Hank[/name_m] [name_m]Robert[/name_m]. We picked that name 10+ years ago and never wavered.
If it’s a boy this time, we’re pretty confident he will be named: [name_u]Arlo[/name_u] [name_m]Gregory[/name_m]. ([name_m]Gregory[/name_m] after grandpa). Our back-up choice was [name_m]Otto[/name_m] [name_m]Gregory[/name_m], but we recently discovered that combined with our [name_m]German[/name_m] last name, we get the name of an infamous Nazi. Yikes.
My husband and I can’t agree on a girl name to save our life. Same issue last go-around. I feel like the perfect name is out there, but I’ve been looking for inspiration everywhere and haven’t found it yet.
I like the idea of using [name_f]EDNA[/name_f] after my great grandma. I like that it’s a vintage name and not widely used, but really not so different than [name_f]Ada[/name_f], [name_f]Emma[/name_f], etc ([name_f]IMO[/name_f]). Maybe we’d call her “[name_f]Eddi[/name_f]” for short. Husband says he could come around, but I also want us both to [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] it.
Hoping to use [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f] or [name_f]Anna[/name_f] as middle name (family names).
Names I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] That Husband HATES…
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f]
[name_f]Oona[/name_f]
[name_u]Vivian[/name_u]
Classic Names My Husband Loves. I like them, just too common for my liking.
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] I’m open to doing an [name_f]Anna[/name_f]-Combo name. [name_f]Anna[/name_f]-[name_f]Kat[/name_f] ([name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f] is my current favorite).
[name_f]Greta[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmy[/name_f]
Names we both Like, just don’t [name_u]LOVE[/name_u]…
[name_f]Estelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosanna[/name_f] ([name_f]Rosie[/name_f])
[name_f]Mabel[/name_f]
Names we both Like, but are they too hard to pronounce?
Ooh, I love [name_m]Hank[/name_m]! [name_u]Arlo[/name_u] would be adorable for a brother.
If it’s a sister…here are my thoughts:
[name_f]Edna[/name_f] is a cool idea. It’s honestly not my personal favorite, but I love that it’s after your grandmother. You’re right that it’s simple yet very unique. That’s always a good combo. I like [name_f]Edna[/name_f] [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f]. I also quite like [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f] as a fn. The nns [name_u]Kit[/name_u] or [name_f]Kitty[/name_f] especially.
I love [name_f]Greta[/name_f] from your husband’s list. I don’t think that it’s all that popular. My favorite part of [name_f]Greta[/name_f] is the n [name_f]Gerty[/name_f]. I also really like [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] & [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] from your kid of like list.
As for your names that you both like list, I think that [name_f]Delia[/name_f] is great. It’s not too hard to pronounce. It’s simple enough & beautiful. I agree that [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] may be complicated for people, but it’s so sweet.
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f], [name_f]Edith[/name_f], [name_f]Anya[/name_f], [name_f]Vera[/name_f], [name_f]Frederica[/name_f], [name_f]Constance[/name_f], [name_f]Lara[/name_f] and [name_f]Elise[/name_f] came to mind
[name_f]Edith[/name_f] nn [name_f]Edie[/name_f] was my first thought for you-- I think you could use it to honor [name_f]Edna[/name_f]. I also really like [name_f]Greta[/name_f], what about [name_f]Gretel[/name_f] instead? I also like [name_f]Beata[/name_f], but I agree that people usually don’t pronounce it correctly. [name_f]Noemi[/name_f] is pretty accessible though and this could get you to [name_f]Emmy[/name_f] as a nn too. I think most people pronounce [name_f]Delia[/name_f] correctly.
I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Edna[/name_f] nn [name_f]Eddi[/name_f], but in the same boat: DH nixed it. (Along with [name_f]Edith[/name_f] and [name_f]Agnes[/name_f].) If your’s came around, [name_m]Hank[/name_m] and [name_f]Edna[/name_f] would be super cute, imo. Especially as it’s a family name.
I love [name_f]Greta[/name_f], too, and don’t think it’s so common?
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] is great and esp the nn [name_f]Tilda[/name_f] or [name_f]Tillie[/name_f]. Or you could do your loved [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f], if you were okay with using [name_f]Tillie[/name_f] in daily life?
What about [name_f]Stella[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Estelle[/name_f]?
[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Rosanna[/name_f]?
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]?
[name_f]Naomi[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Noemi[/name_f]?
I think these are repeats, but I also love [name_f]Annelise[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] or [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] or [name_f]Olive[/name_f] for you.
I know a girl whose brother is [name_m]Hank[/name_m]. She is [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], so that goes with your middle name selection!
Edna is not personally my style, but it is kind of falling into the vintage-two syllable-ends in A category that is popular right now. [name_f]My[/name_f] niece is [name_f]Ada[/name_f], which has really grown on me since she’s been born. I’ve never met another [name_f]Ada[/name_f] before. I think [name_f]Ada[/name_f] and [name_m]Hank[/name_m] would be cute together, but I assume that’s not a favorite of yours, or you would have mentioned it. ha.
I do love [name_f]Anna[/name_f] combo names, and I think [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f] is lovely!
I don’t know how you pronounce [name_f]Delia[/name_f]. I would look at it and say “[name_f]Deal[/name_f]-ya”. However, there was a girl in my class growing up named [name_f]Delia[/name_f], and she pronounced it “[name_f]Dee[/name_f]-luh”. I think a lot of people would get that one wrong, no matter how you chose to pronounce it. Probably the same with the others in that list, in my opinion.
We had a boy! [name_u]Arlo[/name_u] [name_m]Gregory[/name_m] it is. Fits him perfectly and we didn’t need to stress about a girl name haha. But, I am keeping all these names in case we have a 3rd. I’ll probably only have boys!! Thanks all
[name_f]My[/name_f] first thought for you was [name_f]Alma[/name_f]!
[name_f]Alma[/name_f] [name_f]Kathleen[/name_f] is gorgeous, I also like [name_f]Enid[/name_f] and [name_f]Ethel[/name_f] with [name_m]Hank[/name_m] as well
