Our older daughter is [name_f]Helen[/name_f] and we love her name. It’s Greek (we have Greek heritage), yet established and I love how serene and classic it sounds. What would you suggest as a 2-3 syllable name for a sister?
So far, we’ve come up with:
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] (unfortunately, husband is not a fan)
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_f]Agnes[/name_f]
I’m looking forward to your suggestions! Thank you!
How about:
[name_f]Zoe[/name_f]
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
[name_f]Irene[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_f]Thalia[/name_f]
[name_f]Petra[/name_f]
[name_f]Rhea[/name_f]
[name_f]Cassia[/name_f]
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] (or [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f], though it may be longer than you like)
[name_f]Maia[/name_f] / [name_f]Maya[/name_f]
[name_f]Cleo[/name_f]
[name_f]Agatha[/name_f]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_f]Delia[/name_f]
[name_f]Leda[/name_f]
[name_f]Selene[/name_f]
[name_f]Thea[/name_f]
I think [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], and [name_f]Agnes[/name_f] are all great options, too!
I love [name_f]Iris[/name_f] with [name_f]Helen[/name_f]! They give me the same vibe.
Other Greek-derived ideas that haven’t been mentioned:
Anthea
[name_f]Calla[/name_f]
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f]
[name_f]Corinne[/name_f] / [name_f]Corinna[/name_f]
[name_f]Delphine[/name_f]
[name_f]Diana[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f] (not Greek, but I like it with [name_f]Helen[/name_f]!)
[name_f]Leona[/name_f]
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
[name_f]Sonia[/name_f]
All three of the names on your list are great options. It’s too bad your husband isn’t keen on [name_f]Iris[/name_f] – that would have been my favorite with [name_f]Helen[/name_f].
I second the suggestions of [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], [name_f]Cassia[/name_f], [name_f]Petra[/name_f], [name_f]Agatha[/name_f], [name_f]Diana[/name_f], and [name_f]Cora[/name_f]. And I’ll add:
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f]
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f]
[name_f]Theresa[/name_f]
[name_f]Eulalie[/name_f]/Eulalia
[name_f]Sybil[/name_f]/Sibyl
[name_f]Rhoda[/name_f]
[name_u]Nicola[/name_u]
[name_f]Clio[/name_f]
[name_f]Berenice[/name_f]
I have a soft spot for [name_f]Agnes[/name_f]… [name_f]Aggy[/name_f] is such a sweet nickname! [name_f]Helen[/name_f] and [name_f]Agnes[/name_f] is such a sweet sibset.
I also have to steal the ideas from other members such as [name_f]Diana[/name_f] and [name_f]Thea[/name_f]- they are Greek but well known and comfortable sounding anywhere!
It’s unfortunate that your husband doesn’t like [name_f]Iris[/name_f] - it would be perfect. I’d look to Greek mythology for inspiration, as there are so many beautiful names.
I’m not a huge fan of [name_f]Iris[/name_f] either. Not sure why. I just don’t love the sound. [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] is really cute, but just a little bit airy compared to the more mellow down to earth [name_f]Helen[/name_f]. [name_f]Agnes[/name_f] I think fits really well, & is super unexpected but a good solid classic.
I love [name_f]Helen[/name_f], and [name_f]Iris[/name_f] and [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] are on my list, too! I vote for [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] or perhaps something like [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], etc.
I like many of what has been mentioned already. Pity that DH is not a fan of Iris, I love it!. Daphne is good too. Here’s what I can come up with that I don’t think has been mentioned already.
