Due with second daughter in about a month. Our first is [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] and we call her [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] sometimes. She’s named after our grandmothers so it’s very meaningful. Husband and I cannot agree on a name for #2 and can’t think of anything meaningful the second time around. I like old lady names mostly. Our list right now is [name_f]Stella[/name_f], [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f], [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Clara[/name_f]. Nothing seems right! I think [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] sounds similar to [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] so that is my hesitation on that and I’m pretty sure husband doesn’t love [name_f]Stella[/name_f]. And I don’t want any L names. My husband vetoed [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] which was my favorite. Any suggestions on old lady names that would pair well with [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]? I’m stressing that she will be nameless
[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.
[name_f]Lucille[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is beautiful.
Here are my thoughts on your list:
[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]-I agree that this is a little close to [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]. It is nice though.
[name_f]Stella[/name_f]-I love this, but too bad your husband doesn’t.
[name_f]Clara[/name_f]-This is nice, but I hear it a lot. It’s kind of lost its sparkle.
[name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]-This is lovely. It’s not overdone, but simple & well known enough. [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] is adorable as a nn.
Suggestions:
[name_f]Adele[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f]
[name_f]Anita[/name_f]
[name_f]Cornelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]
[name_f]Dorothea[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanora[/name_f]
[name_f]Frances[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]
[name_f]Gloria[/name_f]
[name_u]Marian[/name_u]
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]
[name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Theodora[/name_f]
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps.
My first thought when I read [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] was [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] “[name_f]Evie[/name_f].”
Hello, and congrats! Your daughter has a wonderful name, and I really adore your style. The first thing that pops out is a preference for “l” sounds. From your list, my favorite is [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]. It is vintage, quite underused nowadays, and absolutely beautiful. I share your concerns about [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f].
[name_f]Adele[/name_f]/[name_f]Adela[/name_f]/[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]/[name_f]Adelina[/name_f]: [name_f]Adele[/name_f] and its variants immediately popped out to me as great options for you.
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f]/[name_f]Camellia[/name_f]: This names maintain the sound and flow of [name_f]Cecelia[/name_f], but don’t repeat as many sounds from [name_f]Lucille[/name_f].
[name_f]Clarisse[/name_f]/[name_f]Clarissa[/name_f]: If you like [name_f]Clara[/name_f] but aren’t sure if it’s exactly what you’re looking for, what about one of these two variations?
[name_f]Vienna[/name_f]: If not [name_u]Vivian[/name_u], then what about this beautiful choice? It has the lovely “v” sound, but a flowing ending, much like [name_f]Stella[/name_f]. [name_f]Valencia[/name_f], [name_f]Varina[/name_f], and [name_f]Vera[/name_f] are other great options.
There have been some great suggestions so far. My favorite is [name_f]Audrey[/name_f]. Other ideas:
[name_f]Virginia[/name_f]
[name_f]Pauline[/name_f]
[name_f]Colette[/name_f]
[name_f]Claudia[/name_f]
[name_f]Delphine[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_f]Martha[/name_f]
[name_f]Sonia[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Georgina[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucille[/name_f] and…
[name_f]Estella[/name_f]
[name_f]Verity[/name_f]
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f]
[name_f]Margot[/name_f]
[name_f]Clarissa[/name_f]
[name_f]Anthea[/name_f]
[name_f]Natasha[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Adele[/name_f]/[name_f]Adelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Vera[/name_f]
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_f]Mina[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
[name_f]Evelina[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_f]Amabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
From your list I like [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] the best! And from the other Berries I like [name_f]Frances[/name_f], [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] and [name_f]Margot[/name_f] as a sister for [name_f]Lucille[/name_f].
My suggestions:
[name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f]
My daughter was almost [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] but we decided to honor my maternal grandmother instead of my husband’s maternal grandmother in the middle name spot.
Anyways, [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] was on our list of names we considered for [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] and I agree it’s too similar to [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] for a sister name. Your other options are lovely. Especially [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]. Since we have similar taste here are the other names we considered when pregnant with [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]:
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_f]Willow[/name_f]
And if either of her brothers had been girls the contenders were:
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f]
[name_f]Coretta[/name_f]
[name_f]Zinnia[/name_f]
[name_f]Miriam[/name_f]
[name_f]Melba[/name_f]
[name_f]Gilda[/name_f]
Tuula
[name_f]Frieda[/name_f]
[name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Maris[/name_f]
And the names I pushed really hard to convince my husband were great:
[name_f]Ramona[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Amalia[/name_f]
[name_f]Molly[/name_f]
Good luck!
[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Estelle[/name_f]?
Thanks for all your suggestions! I’m also happy that many of you agree with me that [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] sounds similar to [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] because husband doesn’t agree and probably thinks I’m crazy
[name_f]Lucille[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is a beautiful name.
I definitely agree that [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] is much too similar ([name_f]Lu[/name_f]-[name_m]SEAL[/name_m] / Ce-[name_m]SEAL[/name_m]-ya). Tbh I also find [name_f]Stella[/name_f] and [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] too close, in as much as they share BOTH the L and S sounds with [name_f]Lucille[/name_f].
I like PP suggestions of [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] and [name_f]Florence[/name_f]. Some other suggestions:
[name_f]Sabrina[/name_f]
[name_f]Greta[/name_f]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f]
[name_u]Meredith[/name_u]
Good luck!
My favorite of your current options is [name_f]Clara[/name_f]. I love that [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] and [name_f]Clara[/name_f] both mean “light.” I think that would be a nice connection for the sisters.
Other “light” options:
[name_f]Helena[/name_f]
[name_f]Ellen[/name_f]
[name_f]Elaine[/name_f]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucille[/name_f] is beautiful!
[name_f]Aline[/name_f]
[name_f]Audra[/name_f]
[name_f]Adeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrina[/name_f]
[name_f]Opal[/name_f]
[name_f]Marianne[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosette[/name_f]
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f]
[name_u]Nicola[/name_u]
[name_f]Colette[/name_f]
