I’m back for name advice after four+ years… :slight_smile: Nameberry helped me solidify my choice of [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] for my daughter, who is now four years old and due to be a big sister in [name_u]January[/name_u]! We confirmed that the baby is another little girl. We’re thrilled, but naming isn’t coming easily to us this time around.

[name_f]Lyra[/name_f] was an early favorite last time, and just stood out from all the other names we thought of. We’re both musicians and knew our daughter would be raised around music, so a musical name fit. We love the sound of it (we use the Lie-ra pronunciation) and the additional connection to a constellation. So although we hesitated a bit before finalizing our decision, it wasn’t too hard.

This time, we are struggling to find a name that is also a bit unique without being too out there, sounds good with [name_f]Lyra[/name_f], and feels just as special. It’s really challenging!

My husband likes the name [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], and it was one of the contenders last time, but I’m not sold. I don’t know why. I love [name_f]Bea[/name_f] and [name_f]Bebe[/name_f] as nicknames, but I just don’t feel 100% about [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f].

We both sort of like [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f], but I’m leaning towards no on that as well. I love Disney, but I can’t think of it without being reminded of the princess, and I just don’t really want that connection. [name_f]Lyra[/name_f], for whatever reason, happens to hate [name_f]Jasmine[/name_f] as a name. Not that her opinion has tooooo much weight, haha. :wink:

We like [name_f]Willow[/name_f] and [name_f]Willa[/name_f], but my husband is [name_m]William[/name_m], and we aren’t sure we like her name being so similar to his. [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] and [name_u]Eden[/name_u] are also names I like that my husband isn’t such a fan of.

Please - suggestions would be much appreciated! I’m holding out hope that we just haven’t even considered the right name yet. Thanks in advance!

Wow, thank you all so much for these suggestions! Some thoughts on some of my favorites so far…

Beatrix - I do like this, and I like the name Trixie. But I think between the two I’m leaning towards Beatrice, and I know my husband would strongly prefer it. He’s into the literature/Shakespeare connections it has.
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f] - beautiful, love it. [name_m]Just[/name_m] not sure I see it on my daughter. I’ve been considering it, as well as [name_f]Juliette[/name_f]. Hmmm.
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] - Also beautiful, a favorite of my husband’s.
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] - We both like this name. His house growing up was said to be haunted by a ghost named [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], though. This is an odd connection for him. Not sure.
[name_f]Nina[/name_f] - funny you’d suggest this, [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] has suggested that herself and insisted we should name her sister [name_f]Nina[/name_f]. I like it as a nickname, but I’m not sure which longer name to use with it?
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] - Another favorite of my husband’s. I’m iffy.
[name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]/[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] - I have considered these! Thanks for the reminder, they are nice :slight_smile:
[name_u]Juniper[/name_u] - Previously veto’ed by my husband when I suggested it. I’m a fan, he’s not!
[name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] - I love this as a full name. I’m not so into the nicknames that will come from it though, having known so many [name_u]Jess[/name_u]/Jessies growing up…

Have you considered [name_f]Aria[/name_f]? That’s what I thought of instantly when you described [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] and the musicality of your family. [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] and [name_f]Aria[/name_f] sound like sisters to me, and [name_f]Aria[/name_f] has a lovely musical connection as well! It has a strong meaning too of “air; lioness”. :slight_smile: Have fun finding a name!

[name_u]Harper[/name_u] and [name_f]Aria[/name_f] are actually both favorites of mine! I wasn’t sure they were usable for us though. [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] basically means harp, so [name_u]Harper[/name_u] and [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] kind of feel too close… and [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] and [name_f]Aria[/name_f] - are they too similar? I do love the name. :slight_smile:

We considered naming our oldest [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] and would have gone with more fantasy style names for siblings. Off of your list I think [name_f]Willow[/name_f] and [name_u]Eden[/name_u] fit best.

I’m back… After a few more weeks we have come a bit closer. We are really liking the name [name_f]Faye[/name_f]! We are starting to discuss middle name options to see if we find something we love. We do actually like [name_f]Faye[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], but I think we can do better. What does everyone think of [name_f]Faye[/name_f]? Oh… And as far as middle names, we have to be a bit careful. Our last name starts with G, and some not-so-flattering initials could easily come up. I got excited about [name_f]Faye[/name_f] [name_f]Aria[/name_f] for a brief moment before remembering our last name, haha…
