A sister for Nora?

I just posted a question about brothers for [name]Nora[/name] in the boy name forum and I’m having similar troubles with my girl names. My daughter is 2 and we call her either [name]Nora[/name] or [name]Nora[/name] [name]Cate[/name] (her middle name is [name]Cathleen[/name]). I love how her name is vintage and feminine without being too frilly. It’s also familiar yet not overly popular. I have a very popular name so it was important that [name]Nora[/name] was the only one in her class as I was one of several throughout my school days.

Anyway, I have several girl names I love, but can’t narrow down a top 5 let alone a top 3. My top names always flip flop and I want to be excited about a few rather than love a lot and have such indecision. With [name]Nora[/name], I knew that was my favorite for a very long time.

Here’s my list:

[name]Elise[/name]
[name]Eliza[/name] nn [name]Liza[/name]
[name]Margo[/name] nn [name]Maggie[/name]
[name]Sylvie[/name]
[name]Ruby[/name]
[name]Eve[/name]
[name]Mary[/name]
[name]Gwyneth[/name] nn [name]Gwen[/name]
[name]Zoe[/name]
[name]Maeve[/name]
[name]Clarice[/name] nn [name]Clare[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] nn [name]Josie[/name]
[name]Bronwen[/name] nn [name]Bonnie[/name]
[name]Greta[/name]
[name]Carys[/name] (nn [name]Cary[/name] used occasionally, maybe)
[name]Audrey[/name]

Please make comments on the names and/or make suggestions of similar names. I either need to be revitalized with these names or get excited about some new names I’ve overlooked. Thanks!

My faves are [name]Elise[/name], [name]Eliza[/name], [name]Zoe[/name], [name]Bronwen[/name] and [name]Carys[/name].

My suggestion for sister of [name]Nora[/name] [name]Cathleen[/name] is:
[name]Elise[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] nn [name]Lottie[/name]
[name]Eliza[/name] [name]Bronwen[/name]
[name]Zoe[/name] [name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Carys[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]

[name]Molly[/name] [name]Bronwen[/name]
[name]Sadie[/name] [name]Margareta[/name] (german pronunciation), nn [name]Greta[/name]
[name]Sally[/name] [name]Natalia[/name]

[name]Elise[/name] - I like [name]Elise[/name], and it pairs fine with [name]Nora[/name], but I don’t think they exactly compliment each other either.
[name]Eliza[/name] nn [name]Liza[/name] - I like [name]Eliza[/name], although not as much as many on here, [name]Liza[/name] I like less. She might get nn’d [name]Ellie[/name] which is super popular. [name]Eliza[/name] and [name]Nora[/name] sound great together
[name]Margo[/name] nn [name]Maggie[/name] - I adore [name]Margo[/name], and it’s fine with [name]Nora[/name]. I don’t care for [name]Maggie[/name], and I think people would assume she was a [name]Margaret[/name], not a [name]Margo[/name], if you called her that.
[name]Sylvie[/name] - I like [name]Sylvie[/name], and [name]Nora[/name] and [name]Sylvie[/name] are really working for me more than I would have thought. I also like that this one, like [name]Nora[/name], doesn’t really have an obvious nickname. It’s definitely not too popular currently. A great option.
[name]Ruby[/name] - [name]Ruby[/name] is cute, pairs nicely with [name]Nora[/name], and again, no clear nn too much (maybe [name]Rue[/name] a little). I do think some people view it as trending strongly upwards FYI.
[name]Eve[/name] - I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Eve[/name] and [name]Eve[/name] and [name]Nora[/name] are perfect together. [name]Eve[/name] is not too popular and probably never will be - it is very stable. Names in this family like [name]Eva[/name] and [name]Evelyn[/name] are more popular though so if she goes by [name]Evie[/name] there’s a chance she’ll meet others - but [name]Eve[/name] itself is much less common.
[name]Mary[/name] - I would love to meet a little [name]Mary[/name], and this name is underused, but very familiar. [name]Nora[/name] and [name]Mary[/name] are great together. Again, although the name has tons of historical nicknames, they’re not really used as much today, so they’re both nicknameless.
[name]Gwyneth[/name] nn [name]Gwen[/name] - to me, [name]Gwyneth[/name] is too Welsh and tied to the celebrity in comparison to [name]Nora[/name]. [name]Nora[/name] and [name]Gwendolen[/name] is better, although [name]Gwendolen[/name] is much frillier.
[name]Zoe[/name] - [name]Love[/name] [name]Zoe[/name], it sounds great with [name]Nora[/name], but this name is pretty popular and bounding upwards it seems, so be sure you’re OK with its popularity.
[name]Maeve[/name] - I like [name]Maeve[/name] OK but not as much as some of your others here and it’s pretty heavily Irish next to more neutral [name]Nora[/name]. It’d be OK, but not a top pick.
[name]Clarice[/name] nn [name]Clare[/name] - [name]Clarice[/name] is too tied to [name]Silence[/name] of the Lambs for me, it feels mildly dated. [name]Claire[/name] is bounding upwards so nn’ing her [name]Clare[/name] seems likely to give the name more popularity than you want (and get misspelled some probably)
[name]Josephine[/name] nn [name]Josie[/name] - I love [name]Josephine[/name] and [name]Nora[/name] and [name]Josephine[/name] / [name]Nora[/name] and [name]Josie[/name] are great. [name]Josie[/name] and [name]Josephine[/name] are both showing some upward trendiness but I think they’re still pretty comparable to [name]Nora[/name] in the grand scheme of things.
[name]Bronwen[/name] nn [name]Bonnie[/name] - [name]Bronwen[/name] is so cool, but also so “brawny” and this is too Welsh next to [name]Nora[/name] for me again. I don’t think [name]Bonnie[/name] is too intuitive for a nn for [name]Bronwen[/name] either.
[name]Greta[/name] - I like [name]Greta[/name], and [name]Greta[/name] and [name]Nora[/name] feel natural, but maybe a little too natural? I also think this one won’t be as likely as some others to get favorable reactions in real life.
[name]Carys[/name] (nn [name]Cary[/name] used occasionally, maybe) - I like [name]Carys[/name], it just doesn’t pair naturally with [name]Nora[/name].
[name]Audrey[/name] - A great option, pairs wonderfully with [name]Nora[/name], similar in feel and no nickname. I do think it’s fairly popular though, check.

You might want to consider putting some of your more Welsh/Irish loves in the middle, much like [name]Cathleen[/name] for [name]Nora[/name]!
[name]Nora[/name] [name]Cathleen[/name] and [name]Sylvie[/name] [name]Maeve[/name]
[name]Nora[/name] [name]Cathleen[/name] and [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Gwyneth[/name]
[name]Nora[/name] [name]Cathleen[/name] and [name]Eve[/name] [name]Bronwen[/name]
[name]Nora[/name] [name]Cathleen[/name] and [name]Audrey[/name] [name]Carys[/name]

Your list and desires for a name make me think of:
[name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Caroline[/name]
[name]Daphne[/name]
[name]Genevieve[/name]
[name]Vivian[/name]
[name]Lucy[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Rosemary[/name]
[name]Susannah[/name]

Good luck!

My favorites to go with [name]Nora[/name] are [name]Audrey[/name] and [name]Margo[/name]. I like [name]Clare[/name]/[name]Claire[/name] too.
suggestions-
Margaret
Phoebe

Possible names for [name]Nora[/name]'s sister that you haven’t considered:

[name]Alice[/name]
[name]Celia[/name]
[name]Nell[/name] (a little matchy maybe)
[name]Iris[/name]
[name]May[/name]
[name]Sally[/name]
[name]Tess[/name]

Not a lot of nickname potential here, but I think they are all sweet.

Top 5 of those: [name]Margo[/name], [name]Gwyneth[/name], [name]Josephine[/name], [name]Ruby[/name], and [name]Elise[/name].

I adore [name]Nora[/name]. If I had my own [name]Nora[/name], her sister(s) would likely be one or more of the following: [name]Alice[/name], [name]Clara[/name], [name]Catherine[/name], [name]Rose[/name], [name]Sophie[/name], [name]Lucy[/name], [name]Miriam[/name], [name]Tessa[/name], [name]Violet[/name].

I really love [name]Nora[/name] and [name]Clara[/name] together. Not a fan of [name]Clarice[/name], but [name]Clara[/name]/[name]Claire[/name] are lovely.

[name]Greta[/name] [name]Claire[/name] (nn [name]Gigi[/name]) would go wonderfully with [name]Nora[/name], its not too popular but not over the top either.

Oh, I love [name]Nora[/name]! A few that come to mind that go well:

[name]Lucy[/name]
[name]Alice[/name]
[name]Amelia[/name]
[name]Olivia[/name]
[name]Beatrix[/name]
[name]Violet[/name]

From your list, I love [name]Margot[/name], but not [name]Maggie[/name]. My favorite though is [name]Sylvie[/name]. Beautiful, classy, elegant, familiar, not too popular…just like [name]Nora[/name].
