A sister for Petra

[name_u]Baby[/name_u] #1 is [name_f]Petra[/name_f] [name_u]Kay[/name_u], and we are really leaning towards [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] for baby #2, although we aren’t set on it. We live in the US and I would really prefer an uncommon name… Although my husband doesn’t seem to like anything frilly or long. Also, I haven’t found a middle name for [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] that I love. I like [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Mei[/name_f] (Chinese spelling, baby is half Chinese), [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Maureen[/name_f] (family name), and [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_u]Love[/name_u]. I haven’t suggested the last one to my husband yet since I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t go for it.

Looking for middle name suggestions for [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] or any uncommon (but real!) names that go well with [name_f]Petra[/name_f]. Any long “o” sounding names are a no-go due to last name.

[name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Mei[/name_f] is precious! I’m not great with short middles, so I’ll leave that part for the experts :stuck_out_tongue:

Some other names I think are good with [name_f]Petra[/name_f], though:

I really like [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Mei[/name_f]. I am half Chinese as well! My Chinese-influenced name is Waihan.
Taking into account the short-but-sweet charm and the single syllable of your first child’s middle name, I think some good combinations are:
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f]
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_u]Cass[/name_u]
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Fae[/name_f]
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Este[/name_f]
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_u]Rain[/name_u]
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_u]Glen[/name_u]

And here are some more first name suggestions; don’t worry, I did my homework for uncommon names!:

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps! Good luck!

I immediately thought of [name_f]Freya[/name_f] or [name_f]Frida[/name_f] with [name_f]Petra[/name_f]! Of your [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] combos, I like [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Maureen[/name_f]; although I’m not a huge fan of the name [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] in general.

Other first name suggestions:

thoughts on these? Good luck naming!

While I love [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], it’s seems an odd choice with [name_f]Petra[/name_f]. [name_f]Petra[/name_f] is exotic and unusual. I would go with another similar name like:

[name_f]Petra[/name_f] and [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] have always seemed like a good fit to me. Are you purposely trying to do both names with P?

Here are some other options:

It doesn’t necessarily have to be a “P” name, although I do like the idea. I’m glad to see [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Mei[/name_f] getting some love, although I worry it’s too matchy with [name_f]Petra[/name_f] [name_u]Kay[/name_u]. I like a lot of these suggestions!

Some that I might run by my husband: [name_f]Clementine[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] (although I worry it’s too close to [name_f]Isis[/name_f] right now)
[name_u]Piper[/name_u] (this one seems a good match for [name_f]Petra[/name_f], but it doesn’t fee right for some reason)
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_u]Rain[/name_u]
[name_f]Willa[/name_f]- husband seems open to this one

Names I like but can’t use:
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]- we both like this one, but I was shocked to find out how popular it was… #34!
[name_u]Wren[/name_u]- love this one, but doesn’t work with last name.
[name_u]Simone[/name_u]- lovely name and sounds great with [name_f]Petra[/name_f], but I knew a [name_u]Simone[/name_u] and it ruined the name for me
[name_f]Freya[/name_f]- great suggestion, love it! But hubby shot it down immediately
[name_f]Camille[/name_f]- definitely, definitely does not work with last name. Wish I could use it.
[name_f]Delphine[/name_f]- hubby shot down
[name_f]Clio[/name_f]- an all time fave, but rhymes with one syllable last name
