A sister for Stella?

Please help! I’m a huge name enthusiast but my husband and I can’t for the life of us choose girl names… Our first daughter didn’t have a name for months, due any day now and I’m starting to stress out this time around :cold_sweat:

Our daughter is named Stella and our pick for a boy is Leo. Our babies are tan with dark features

Our current list includes:

  • Maeve (the only name my husband really likes- but is this name too Irish for a tan/dark features baby?)
  • Audrey
  • Eva
  • Clara

Also like the sound of but further down the list:

  • Celine
  • Grace
  • Theia (we know a child)
  • Ada (doesn’t quite work with surname)
  • Freya (doesn’t quite work with surname)
  • Celeste
  • Delilah (we know a child)

Any suggestions? Faves off our short / long list?

I love [name_f]Stella[/name_f] and [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] the best, with [name_f]Stella[/name_f] and [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] as a second choice from your short list. I also think there is something really pretty about [name_f]Stella[/name_f] and [name_f]Celeste[/name_f], since they both have the night sky/astronomy connection. Plus I think those names sound beautiful together!

Thanks [name_f]Alison[/name_f]!

I absolutely love how [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] looks written down  my key reservation with [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] is whether or not people would find it strange or a tan child with dark features being such a strikingly Irish name

Honestly, while I do think of [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] as an Irish name, I wouldn’t think twice about meeting a not Irish [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]! [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] would definitely be my first choice, with [name_f]Clara[/name_f] as my second because a) works amazingly with [name_f]Stella[/name_f] and b) what’s not to love about [name_f]Clara[/name_f]

i love stella and maeve together, they both have a stylish yet sweet feel to them and are quite similar in terms of familiarity.

i personally don’t feel it would be strange to name a non-irish child maeve. maeve with this spelling has become more generally used over the years outside of ireland. i think if you were using the more traditional spelling meabh i would assume the child was irish. also not everyone in ireland is pale so there are probably a lot of irish maeve’s who have a similar complexion!! not something i’d worry about xx

from your list i like audrey and celeste with beautiful stella :))

some suggestions:

neve
harlowe
mabel
eloise
zara

What lovely options! [name_f]Stella[/name_f] and [name_u]Leo[/name_u] are some of my favorite names. I love [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] too and think it goes beautifully with your other kids. I’ve met lots of Maeves of various different ethnicities, so I wouldn’t worry too much about using a traditionally Irish name. Of your other picks, [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], [name_f]Celine[/name_f], and [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] are my favorites. If you wanted more suggestions, I also like:

[name_f]Stella[/name_f] &…

Astrid/Astra
[name_u]Jade[/name_u]
[name_f]Manon[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f]

good luck!

[name_u]Leo[/name_u] works perfectly with the [name_f]Stella[/name_f]! I know a few girls named [name_f]Stella[/name_f], and one with a sister. Her sister’s name is [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], which I think goes really well! I also love [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] from your list. [name_f]Mae[/name_f] / [name_f]May[/name_f] rather than [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] would be really lovely with [name_f]Stella[/name_f] as well!

From your list, Maeve is my favourite! And it goes well with Stella :slightly_smiling_face:

I also think Audrey and Delilah work well with Stella. But I would avoid using Delilah if the child you know is a close friend/relative. Personally that would take Delilah off the list for me.

Other suggestions (some repeated from others):
-Lucy
-Mabel
-Violet
-Eloise
-Tara

Yes [name_f]Clara[/name_f] is so pretty! I wanted [name_f]Clara[/name_f] for [name_f]Stella[/name_f] but husband Vito-Ed… he’s ever so slowly warming up to [name_f]Clara[/name_f] though, maybe I can get it across the line for a third girl!

[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] and [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] are pretty names I can try float! Would you pronounce [name_f]Emmaline[/name_f] “Emma-leen”; “Emma-line” or “Emma-lin”

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Stella[/name_f] and [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] together.

[name_f]Eloise[/name_f] is a possibility!

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

I love [name_f]Stella[/name_f]! [name_u]Leo[/name_u] would be perfect for a little brother.

Here are my thoughts on your girl list-

Maeve-I do admit that I generally picture a fair haired/skinned girl when I think of [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t use it for a darker features baby. It’s a beautiful elegant name that’s perfect w/Stella. I wouldn’t worry about the imagery thing at all. She’ll make [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] fit her just fine!

Audrey-So sweet. It’s lovable & gentle, but also has a little bit of sass glamour from [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] Hepburn. It’s simple & classic & not too popular. [name_u]Perfect[/name_u] w/Stella.

Eva-I like this, & it goes well w/Stella. I’m a bit tired of ‘Ev’ names though. Mostly [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] & [name_u]Everly[/name_u] are way over done, but another little [name_f]Evie[/name_f] may get lost in the mix. I prefer just [name_f]Eve[/name_f] or [name_f]Ava[/name_f] to [name_f]Eva[/name_f].

Clara-Ooh, very nice. Simple, clean, kind & classic. Very nice w/Stella.

Celine-I don’t hate it, but it doesn’t do much for me. It feels sort of incomplete if that makes sense. Also maybe a little snobby.

Grace-Meh, not my cup of tea. Not sure why, but it always sounded pretentious to me.

Theia-This spelling looks off; I’d prefer [name_f]Thea[/name_f]. Great name, but I guess off the table if you already have a close one in your life.

Ada-Too bad. It’s pretty cute.

Freya-Same as above.

Celeste-I like that. [name_u]Love[/name_u] the star connection between [name_f]Stella[/name_f] & [name_f]Celeste[/name_f].

Delilah-I hear [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] a ton. It’s not my favorite. I like just [name_f]Lila[/name_f] if that would work?

Honestly, [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] is my personal favorite from your list. And it goes great w/Stella. I really like [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] & [name_f]Clara[/name_f] too.
