As per the title, I’m looking for a surname for my protagonist. The genre is adventure(/fantasy? I’m not sure whether I would consider it fantasy or not yet…), and the setting is a quaint [name_m]French[/name_m] village circa 1950. The character is a young boy, 14 to 15 years old, who travels into the afterlife to save a deceased loved one.
If it helps any, the primary inspiration comes from the [name_m]Orpheus[/name_m] and [name_f]Eurydice[/name_f] story, as well as the Pixar movie [name_f]Coco[/name_f] to some extent. More so the former, though.
Currently, I have him as [name_u]Michel[/name_u] Dubois, but I find that I’m uncertain about the surname. Part of it is because there was a boxer who used that name in the ring, and that connection feels a bit off to me, even though I didn’t know it at the time. I like the De- or [name_f]Du[/name_f]- sound for his surname.
The secondary protagonist is named [name_f]Camille[/name_f] Marchand, which I’ll be keeping. I was worried that their given names sounded too similar, but I think they look different enough that it doesn’t matter that much. I’m open to opinions, but [name_f]Camille[/name_f]'s name isn’t subject to change.
As for names of family members, there’s only the previously mentioned loved one (mother or grandmother, I can’t seem to make my mind up), whose name is Amélie and who has the same last name as [name_u]Michel[/name_u].
Thank you for your time!
