A Survey on Names

Hello, I’m doing research on English native speakers’ attitudes towards some English names. Could you take five minutes to complete this questionnaire? I really appreciate your help!

Here is the link of the survey: https://www.wjx.cn/jq/17031086.aspx

If you have any suggestions, please feel free to tell me

Fun! Being a namenerd it’s hard for me to label any name as “stripper” - the rarer the gem the better imo

I take some issue with calling a name a “stripper” name. Names don’t tell you the social class, wealth, or profession of the person. Also, performers that choose a name often choose names as jokes, like puns, etc. When someone chooses to go by a name it does not ruin that name.

It’s a good idea but I found it hard to a answer. I think it need more than three answers or different answers like, maybe “[name_u]Love[/name_u] it”, “It’s not for me, but works” or “I dislike it”. The answers that are there aren’t really good answers when rating a name.

Yes, I love gem names too! Thank you for your reply

I totally agree with you. Many people told me that gem names are all stripper names in English speaking countries. As a non-native speaker, I think I know little about it, and that’s why I created this survey…

Thank you for you suggestion  I will think about how to improve it.

I agree with the above posters. I would also break the names into sections based on style eg. [name_f]Emerald[/name_f] , [name_f]Garnet[/name_f] on one page , [name_f]Karen[/name_f] and [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] on another. Have you used google forms before?

With the stripper thing it depends but yes I have seen the stereotype that gem names are stripper names.

I agree with the other berries, perhaps other options saying the respondants liked it, disliked it, thought it wasn’t a name or didn’t think much about it. I also think that using “I think it’s a stripper name” as an option for the survey is going to be a problem with berries as respondants, I have a feeling many of us will see all the names as genuinely usable

I do think this is a very interesting topic though, looking into how we conceptualize names, even the ones we have no experience with, and the negative connotations that could come with them (or positive, that would be really intriguing too). I’m interested to see where you take this and what you find
