I’ve found a middle name which i really like. It’s obscure, but it reflects our family history so well (we are both from a family of nomads who’ve lived practically every where!).
The other thing is that, as far as I can research about it, it means the same as my BiLs name (albeit in female form) which would mean the world for my OH! He really wants to name this one after his brother, but the name just doesn’t sound nice in any of its female forms!
The name is Ferelith - pronounced fEH-reh-leeth. I know feral probably springs to mind, but I think it’s really pretty, but how obscure is too obscure?
We would also like to incorporate the name [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] after my OHs grandmother who was very well loved by the entire family, BUT she HATED her own name. She was called [name_f]Rita[/name_f] and we thought Margerita or [name_f]Margarita[/name_f] - but most people just think “alcohol”. It means [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], but would [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] be too far from the original name?
[name_m]Rollo[/name_m] - I don’t like [name_f]Fleur[/name_f], never have =/ [name_f]Lilith[/name_f] have been turned down by my partner already Besides, if using something like [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] or [name_f]Lilith[/name_f] the meaning would go out the window and the meaning is half of why I like the name (like I said, nod towards my [name_m]BiL[/name_m]). A friend of ours has a daughter called [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] anyway, so not possible.
I actually really like it. I think most things are fine in the middle. [name_f]Flora[/name_f] Ferelith [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is very lovely. I think you can use [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] to honor your OHs grandmother. It’s the meaning of her name. Like I said, the combos gorgeous.
Dantea - Yes, I selected [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] because of the direct translation from Greek Margaritari (μα”γα”ιτά”ι) which is where, as far as I’m aware, the name [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] stemmed from in the first place. It’s a bit more subtle than using the original name, but somehow I find it a bit more suitable considering his grandmother detested her own name!
I love Ferelith, it’s been on and off my lists for ages. It’s strangely perfect for you actually, I really love it. [name_f]Flora[/name_f] Ferelith [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]. It’s utterly enchanting. Have I gushed over how much I love that you’ll be using [name_f]Flora[/name_f]? I’ve been so wrapped up in my own naming adventure I feel like I’ve neglected commenting on other people’s threads, but my heart flutters when I think of a little [name_f]Flora[/name_f] in this world.
We’ll be finding out if it is a girl tomorrow But my partner and both boys are adamant it is a girl this time. If its a boy, quite frankly, we’re screwed - I got no idea what to call a boy.
I’m glad you like it [name_f]Ottilie[/name_f], and being absorped in your own name thread is perfectly understandable - I’ve been doing so much name research for myself that when it comes to answering other peoples post I’m just to mentally exhausted to be constructive xD
[name_f]Love[/name_f] Ferelith. She jumps on and off our list, but she’s always on our top 20. [name_f]Flora[/name_f] Ferelith [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is delightful! Perfection. I don’t find [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] to be a stretch. I always prefer honor names that honor in a subtle way, myself.
[name_f]Love[/name_f] it. [name_f]One[/name_f] of the best meanings I’ve ever seen for little girls (“true sovereignty”). And I also love it with [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], but for some reason [name_f]Flora[/name_f] Ferelith makes me stumble, and it comes out more like Floral Verelith. Probably just me.
I love [name_f]Flora[/name_f] Ferelith [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]. It has enough repeating sounds to be cohesive and lilting, the meanings are well balanced, and I love that there are layers of personal meaning for you. [name_f]One[/name_f] of the best name combos I’ve heard in awhile.
I was very much afraid of this - I have a stammer and for that reason tend to stay away from alliterations. [name_m]Even[/name_m] names like [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] or [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Ann[/name_f] can kick up my stammer, but so far I’ve had no trouble saying [name_f]Flora[/name_f] Ferelith, but I agree, it can be a bit of a stumble.
Thank you for all your comments, I’m very pleased there seems to be an overall positive response to it !
I love [name_f]Flora[/name_f] Ferelith [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] I’m not too keen on [name_f]Flora[/name_f] usually but it’s nice in this combo. I’ve never heard Ferelith before. It’s actually pretty nice. And [name_f]IMO[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] isn’t too far of a stretch from [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f].
