[name_f]Aaliyah[/name_f] has been one of my not so guilty pleasures for a really long time, I’ve always loved the sound but recently I heard an [name_f]Aaliyah[/name_f] being called uh-ly-ah (kind of like “a liar”) and I was like…what? That’s not how I pronounce it at all, I usually say [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-lee-ah but I’ve heard uh-lee-ah.
So that got me wondering, how do you pronounce [name_f]Aaliyah[/name_f] and what, on first glance, did you think it was said as?
I knew a girl named [name_f]Aaliyah[/name_f] once who was very particular that the stress was put on the first syllable of her name, so it sounded like “[name_u]Ollie[/name_u]-ah”. I first think of that pronunciation, but [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-lee-ah seems the most natural to me.
For a long time I thought this name was pronounced uh-[name_u]LEE[/name_u]-uh, but then recently I discovered the singer [name_f]Aaliyah[/name_f] actually pronounced her name [name_m]AH[/name_m]-lee-uh.
I’ve only ever heard it pronounced [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-[name_f]Leah[/name_f]. You could spell it [name_f]Aleah[/name_f] and that might make it easier for people to pronounce?
