[name_m]Hi[/name_m],
We are pregnant with our third girl! [name_u]Baby[/name_u] 3 will be a littler sister for [name_u]River[/name_u] and [name_f]Blossom[/name_f]. These names are obviously themed. We would like to have a large family and so I have begun to think maybe we should abandon the theme now so as not to back ourselves into a corner.
Names I like on theme:
[name_f]Luna[/name_f] (long time favorite but worries it’s top popular)
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] (don’t love two sibling names starting with same syllable) l
[name_f]Aura[/name_f] (I love this but my husband isnt convinced)
Marlu
Sage/saige
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f]
Off theme
Margo/t
[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f]
[name_u]Ziggy[/name_u]
[name_u]North[/name_u] (worried about the Kardashian connection)
[name_m]Iggy[/name_m]
[name_u]Jovi[/name_u]
[name_f]Mirabelle[/name_f]
[name_u]Scout[/name_u]
[name_u]Bellamy[/name_u]
[name_f]My[/name_f] husband has veteod every single name I come up with and is set on keeping the theme. He is pushing for storm But I just don’t like it for us.
Basically I am wondering what your thoughts are on straying from the theme and would also love name suggestions that suit both on or off theme. Thankyou!
To me, [name_u]North[/name_u] and [name_u]Scout[/name_u] seem more on theme than [name_f]Luna[/name_f] and [name_f]Aura[/name_f]. I think this is actually a good reason to use [name_f]Luna[/name_f]: it continues the theme but less obvious. This gives you room to either continue or abandon the theme with baby 4. [name_f]Aura[/name_f] is a good option too, but your husband should also be convinced on the name. Maybe you both like [name_f]Laura[/name_f]?
Aura is so pretty, my top pick from the on-theme list. With you on Storm as well, it seems a bit too much compared to the softness of your other 2 girls names.
I like Margot, given it’s meaning of ‘pearl’ in French, perhaps it’s not straying too far?
It sounds like [name_f]Luna[/name_f] is your favourite so I’d go with that regardless of popularity.
From your other choices, I really like [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] with your other names (although it’s also my top choice so I may be slightly biased)
Maybe [name_f]Rosabel[/name_f] (combining your love of [name_f]Rose[/name_f], and Mirabelle), or if you don’t want another R name, maybe just [name_f]Belle[/name_f], or [name_f]Primrose[/name_f]
Other suggestions: [name_u]River[/name_u], [name_f]Blossom[/name_f] and
[name_u]Marlowe[/name_u]
[name_u]Eden[/name_u]
[name_f]Savannah[/name_f]
[name_u]Jules[/name_u]
[name_f]Cleo[/name_f]
[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite option is [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u]. So cute and it works perfectly with your set. Also love [name_u]Jovi[/name_u] as an option.
I think your set could go a few ways you could continue nature names, you could do words names, or you have a set that’s a body of water, a flower association - you could continue with a place, a fruit, a verb, weather, etc.
[name_u]River[/name_u], [name_f]Blossom[/name_f], and [name_f]Luna[/name_f] - I think this is a lovely way to start trending away from the word name theme while still tying the names together as being nature oriented.
[name_u]River[/name_u], [name_f]Blossom[/name_f], and [name_f]Rose[/name_f] - I think this one is less workable. Not only does it start with the same initial as [name_u]River[/name_u], but in that sibset it sounds like [name_u]River[/name_u] is a boy, while [name_f]Blossom[/name_f] and [name_f]Rose[/name_f] are girls.
[name_u]River[/name_u], [name_f]Blossom[/name_f], and [name_f]Aura[/name_f] - I really love this, for the same reasons as [name_f]Luna[/name_f], plus it avoids the popularity issues. However, if your husband isn’t on board, it’s probably not the one. Have you considered [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]?
[name_u]River[/name_u], [name_f]Blossom[/name_f], and Marlu - I don’t know how to tactfully say this, so I’m just going to hide it behind a spoiler tag. To me this just sounds like a dog’s name. I don’t think it works with the sibset either. I’m sorry!
[name_u]River[/name_u], [name_f]Blossom[/name_f], and [name_u]Sage[/name_u] - I love this for you, as it’s still a nature name that can be very feminine while incorporating some of the more unisex vibes that you like in your off-theme names. I would definitely stick with the [name_u]Sage[/name_u] spelling, since your other two names use the traditional spellings.
[name_u]River[/name_u], [name_f]Blossom[/name_f], and [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] - I’m so torn on this name. On the one hand, I love it for you, and it’s such a bright, cheery option. On the other hand, I am having similar issues as with [name_f]Rose[/name_f], in that I would think [name_f]Blossom[/name_f] and [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] are the girls and [name_u]River[/name_u] is a boy. Maybe it’s because they’re both flower names?
For your off-theme names:
[name_u]River[/name_u], [name_f]Blossom[/name_f], and [name_f]Margo[/name_f] / [name_f]Margot[/name_f] - I think either spelling is fine here. I do feel like this is a pretty big departure from the sibset.
[name_u]River[/name_u], [name_f]Blossom[/name_f], and [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] - For some reason, this feels like less of a departure than [name_f]Margo[/name_f]. I don’t care for [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] personally, but I think the bohemian vibe prevents it from clashing with your other girls’ names.
[name_u]River[/name_u], [name_f]Blossom[/name_f], and [name_u]Ziggy[/name_u] / [name_m]Iggy[/name_m] - I’ll be honest, I vote no for these two. I think they’re too different from the sibset, and rather than being unisex like [name_u]River[/name_u], they read boy to me.
[name_u]River[/name_u], [name_f]Blossom[/name_f], and [name_u]North[/name_u] - I do think [name_u]North[/name_u] works well in the sibset, being not strictly a nature name, but a word name with a nature vibe. If it weren’t for the Kardashian connection, [name_u]North[/name_u] could read very boyish, but I also know that connection makes you uncomfortable.
[name_u]River[/name_u], [name_f]Blossom[/name_f], and [name_u]Jovi[/name_u] - I don’t think this one works as well as some of the others. I would assume [name_u]Jovi[/name_u] is male.
[name_u]River[/name_u], [name_f]Blossom[/name_f], and [name_f]Mirabelle[/name_f] - I think this is a pretty big departure as well, but in the opposite direction. It’s quite frilly compared to [name_u]River[/name_u], though I think it goes well as a sister for [name_f]Blossom[/name_f]. I might assume [name_u]River[/name_u] was a boy and [name_f]Blossom[/name_f] and [name_f]Mirabelle[/name_f] were girls.
[name_u]River[/name_u], [name_f]Blossom[/name_f], and [name_u]Scout[/name_u] - I honestly really love this one for you! It fits into the sibset without being a nature name, and if you have more kids later, [name_u]Scout[/name_u] could be a good bridge into non-word names. I think it really matches your vibe beautifully!
[name_u]River[/name_u], [name_f]Blossom[/name_f], and [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] - I’m less keen on this one, as it shares a first initial and several letters with [name_f]Blossom[/name_f].
[name_u]River[/name_u], [name_f]Blossom[/name_f], and [name_u]Storm[/name_u] - I think [name_u]Storm[/name_u] fits okay in your sibset, but it skews a little harder in the direction of names like [name_m]Talon[/name_m] or [name_u]Falcon[/name_u] that feel like they’re trying really hard to be cool and tough. Like I said with [name_f]Aura[/name_f], if one of you is not in love with it, I don’t think it’s the one.
Okay, time for some suggestions!

[name_u]River[/name_u], [name_f]Blossom[/name_f], and [name_u]Tempest[/name_u] - instead of [name_u]Storm[/name_u]?
[name_u]River[/name_u], [name_f]Blossom[/name_f], and [name_f]Fawn[/name_f]
[name_u]River[/name_u], [name_f]Blossom[/name_f], and [name_f]Meadow[/name_f]

Out of all the above (amazing suggestions) [name_f]My[/name_f] favorites are [name_f]Margo[/name_f], [name_u]Shiloh[/name_u], [name_u]June[/name_u], [name_u]Jade[/name_u], [name_u]Sage[/name_u], [name_u]Dove[/name_u], & [name_f]Olive[/name_f] with your other names
The third child is usually the time to make or break a pattern so if this is you’re thinking now I’d probably run with that intuition…. But where River somewhat common (at least in NB land) Blossom is somewhat a big name to divert from so maybe a subtle nod or compromise (especially if husband needs to get on board )
-. A nature name could always work in the middle
River is pretty much just outside of the Top 100 for boys and in the Top 200 for girls. So it’s very familiar. I’d stay with something just as subtle and that maybe slightly diverts from the theme.
Some of tour options that I think does this:
Saige
North
Scout
Some others to consider that does this IMO:
Holly
Hazel
Jade
Scarlett
Autumn
Phoenix
Ruby
Lily
Violet
Thank you all for the great replies! Some serious contenders in here I think my list at the moment stands as:
[name_f]Aura[/name_f]
[name_u]North[/name_u]
[name_u]Scout[/name_u]
[name_u]Marlowe[/name_u]
[name_u]Sage[/name_u]
[name_u]Ochre[/name_u] (I forgot to add this to the original post)
I love the name North and don’t think it is too Kardashian. It connects with her siblings because North is slightly nature connected without being totally obvious and I don’t think it gets you trapped in a corner. How far apart are you going to have your next kids? Because if ots quite a long way down the road then I wouldn’t go for a totally off-themed name for this one as they will seem like the odd one out for a while, if that makes nay sense? I would go for a subtle nature name and then back off the theme more with every kid. So from your theme list I really like Luna for you. I don’t know any Luna’s so it’s not very popular where I am. It’s subtle nature but definetely not trapping you in a corner. Sage/Saige I really like for you as well. I think Aura would be perfect if you could get your husband on board Anyway, I hope my waffling helped a little!
From your list I think Marigold, Scout, Ziggy, Sage, Margot and Tallulah are perfect with your children’s names. Mirabelle (although I much prefer the Mirabel spelling) fits in well too.
If you intend to have more children and don’t want to have to stick to a theme then i’d definitely consider using a non-nature/word name, although I’d ultimately go with what you love most, whatever category that name falls under.
I can’t say I like North and I wouldn’t want to use it considering Kim Kardashian has; it feels much too associated with her.
Here are some names that came to mind for River and Blossom’s sister:
Sunday
Flora
Juno
Frankie
Clover
Fern
Araminta
Pearl
Elowen
Della
Astrid
Freya
Ophelia
Noa
Paloma
Maple
Olive
Luella
Prairie
Billie
Aurora
Florence
Lux
Primrose
Kai
Marlowe
Saskia
Willa
Theodora
Viola
Allegra
Iris
Xanthe
Edie
Mabel
Lyra
Soleil
Alba
I wouldn’t feel too tied either way. [name_m]Just[/name_m] go with what feels right! I will say [name_u]Storm[/name_u] is darker and very X Men for me so it doesn’t fit as nicely with her siblings. [name_f]Luna[/name_f] isn’t too dark and [name_f]Mirabelle[/name_f] feels good to me! Reminds me of [name_f]Bluebell[/name_f] without being [name_f]Bluebell[/name_f].
If you plan on having a larger family and think that maybe you wont always find names you love enough to fit into the theme I would say you should abandon it
From the names you mentioned I live both Mirabelle and Tallulah
p.s.: I love River and Blossom for two little girls
