Abbott, thoughts?

[name]Just[/name] saw [name]Abbott[/name] on the name cloud, and I was reminded of how very, very much I love this name. WDYT of it? I wasn’t able to fit it on my list the last time around, but I still really adore it, and I’ve come back to it several times since I let it go. I know it’s religious, but it’s not too religious for me, and it holds several good ties that make it even more usable/memorable, imo.

I’m not opposed to it as a FN, but the nns [name]Abby[/name] and Bot aren’t terribly attractive on a little boy, haha, so I’ve been thinking about it more as a MN lately. What FN would pair well with the MN [name]Abbott[/name]? [name]Just[/name] out of curiosity. I’d liked [name]Brody[/name] [name]Abbott[/name] in the past, but I am already firmly set on another [name]Brody[/name] combo ([name]Brody[/name] [name]Elliot[/name] [name]Daniel[/name]), so that’s no longer an option. Any other combo ideas?

And lastly, would [name]Toby[/name] be too much of a stretch for [name]Abbott[/name]? I really love [name]Toby[/name], too, but I’m not as keen on [name]Tobias[/name]/[name]Tobin[/name]…

Thanks, ladies!

[name]Abbott[/name] is cute. I can see the appeal. It makes me think mainly of [name]Abbott[/name] and Costello.

[name]Toby[/name] is a stretch but it doesn’t seem impossible.

Another cool nn option to me is [name]Bo[/name].

I think [name]Toby[/name] could stand on its own, and [name]Toby[/name] [name]Abbott[/name] is pretty great.

it probably doesn’t help you any but there are also [name]Tobiah[/name] and Tobijah.

[name]Do[/name] you have combos for all your favorites? I’m kind of digging [name]Grayson[/name] [name]Abbott[/name].

[name]Gregory[/name] [name]Abbott[/name] is nice too.

[name]Abbot[/name] reminds me of [name]Hannah[/name] [name]Abbott[/name] off [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name] ahah

[name]Bo[/name] is cute! Although if I have anything to say about it, if I have a daughter, she’ll be [name]Isabelle[/name] (nn [name]Belle[/name]/[name]Bella[/name]), so I’m not sure about [name]Bella[/name] and [name]Bo[/name]/[name]Belle[/name] and [name]Beau[/name]… I actually like [name]Tobiah[/name] less than [name]Tobias[/name]/[name]Tobin[/name], haha. [name]Tobin[/name]'s my favorite of the bunch, I actually like it, but I can’t see me using it.

And yeah, pretty much. The only combo that’s not settled is [name]Asher[/name], and I’m getting close to making a decision there (it’s down to [name]Asher[/name] [name]Elliot[/name] [name]Zane[/name] or [name]Asher[/name] [name]Edmund[/name] something or other). [name]Grayson[/name] [name]Isaac[/name] [name]Jude[/name] is my [name]Grayson[/name] combo. I do like [name]Grayson[/name] [name]Abbott[/name], it almost seems too religious, though. Although it probably just seems that way because [name]Grayson[/name] would be for my grandmother, whose MN is [name]Grace[/name]. So [name]Grace[/name] and [name]Abbott[/name]/a type of minister seems a little overly religious, but I don’t know if others would pick up on that?

I love [name]Abbott[/name]! You could you use [name]Otto[/name] as a potential nickname although I like [name]Abby[/name]!

As a middle name, I would pair it with the following:
[name]Noah[/name] [name]Abbott[/name]
[name]Ellis[/name] [name]Abbott[/name]
[name]Henry[/name] [name]Abbott[/name]
[name]Owen[/name] [name]Abbott[/name]
[name]Oliver[/name] [name]Abbott[/name]
[name]Liam[/name] [name]Abbott[/name]
Jams [name]Abbott[/name]
[name]Jude[/name] [name]Abbott[/name]
[name]Jonah[/name] [name]Abbott[/name]
[name]Benjamin[/name] [name]Abbott[/name]
[name]Lincoln[/name] [name]Abbott[/name]
[name]Forrest[/name] [name]Abbott[/name]
[name]Maxwell[/name] [name]Abbott[/name]
[name]Ezra[/name] [name]Abbott[/name]
[name]Nathaniel[/name] [name]Abbott[/name]
[name]Ethan[/name] [name]Abbott[/name]
[name]Sebastian[/name] [name]Abbott[/name]
[name]Samuel[/name] [name]Abbott[/name]
[name]Mason[/name] [name]Abbott[/name]
[name]Evan[/name] [name]Abbott[/name]
[name]Evander[/name] [name]Abbott[/name]
[name]Logan[/name] [name]Abbott[/name]
[name]Jackson[/name] [name]Abbott[/name]
[name]Gabriel[/name] [name]Abbott[/name]
[name]Luca[/name] [name]Abbott[/name]

Let me know what you like!

Ooh @mamarachof6, I think [name]Otto[/name]'s a neat suggestion!

Yeah, I don’t think others would really pick up on religious imagery for [name]Grayson[/name] [name]Abbott[/name] that much, but maybe occasionally, I mean now that you’ve said it I know what you mean. Anyway if you’ve got [name]Grayson[/name]'s combo settled no worries.

I think [name]Asher[/name] [name]Abbott[/name] is kind of dashing with the alliteration, but [name]Elliot[/name] or [name]Edmund[/name] is probably a more rounded pick for sure.

I kind of adore the idea of [name]Bo[/name] and [name]Bella[/name] / [name]Bo[/name] and [name]Belle[/name] together! Since the first names start with different letters, to me it would matter less if the nicknames overlapped. But obviously it’s reasonable to disagree on that.

[name]Tobin[/name] [name]Abbot[/name] is OK but it s kind of b heavy, somehow more than [name]Toby[/name] [name]Abbott[/name].

Yeah, I don’t really love [name]Tobiah[/name] or Tobijah either but it was interesting to learn they exist.

[name]Rhys[/name] [name]Abbott[/name] just popped into my mind randomly.

I love [name]Abbott[/name], but when I told my Mom she just said “HEEEEEY, [name]ABB[/name]-ETT!” (if you don’t know [name]Abbott[/name] & Costello you won’t understand how hilarious that was). So [name]Abbott[/name] is kind of a guilty pleasure even though I doubt he’ll get many “Hey [name]Abbott[/name]” comments

I don’t see anything wrong with [name]Abby[/name]/[name]Abbie[/name]/[name]Abbi[/name] for a boy. [name]Abbie[/name] Hoffman’s (60’s/70’s activist) real name was [name]Abbot[/name]. Since it often comes out as “ab-bit” or “ab-bet” I guess [name]Bix[/name] or [name]Bet[/name] or Bex could work

Thanks for your suggestions! I actually love a lot of these–I had considered [name]Noah[/name] [name]Abbott[/name] ([name]Abbott[/name] [name]Noah[/name]?) and [name]Abbott[/name] [name]Henry[/name] at one point, too, so they’re pretty much spot-on idea-wise. I still love those two, although I’m not sure about using them. I went to school with someone who now has a [name]Noah[/name], and while I really like [name]Henry[/name], I don’t know that I love it. I love [name]Jude[/name] [name]Abbott[/name] (or maybe even [name]Judah[/name] [name]Abbott[/name]?) and [name]Jonah[/name] [name]Abbott[/name], though, and while I don’t love them with [name]Abbott[/name], I really love [name]Gabriel[/name] and [name]Oliver[/name], too.

[name]Otto[/name]'s not really an option for me–I read this series of books when I was in high school, and there was this Nazi who was [name]Otto[/name] something or other. He was just the most awful character I’ve ever come across–just the thought of him makes [name]Otto[/name] so unappealing to me. It turned out that he was really a part of the Underground, helping Jews escape to freedom and such, but the way it was set up to look like he was a bad guy completely ruined [name]Otto[/name] for me. :frowning:

@jesba - [name]Asher[/name] [name]Abbott[/name] was the name of a guy I was going to write a story about. I nixed the story, but he’s still too tied to his character, I don’t think I could do that! I do like your suggestion of [name]Rhys[/name] [name]Abbott[/name], though!

I [name]LOVE[/name] the name [name]Abbott[/name]! Not to put a damper on the name for you, but it’s my ruby cavalier’s name  I knew I’d never be able to use it on a baby, so I gave the name to my best buddy. I would love to see a little boy with this name, I thinks it’s awesome.

This may be a silly question, but how do you pronounce [name]Abbott[/name]? Short a as in “apple”? AY-bot? [name]AH[/name]-bot?

“A” as in apple, yes. [name]AB[/name]-buht.

Thanks! : )
