I like [name_m]Abel[/name_m] and [name_m]Abe[/name_m] is nice as a nickname. Good solid names. Go for it!

Yes to both!

I know two little Abels, and it works really well on both of them. It does slightly bother me that it sounds identical to ā€˜able’, but that also sort of makes it an indirect virtue name. [name_m]Abe[/name_m] has a cool old man vibe that I really enjoy – reminds me of names like [name_u]Gus[/name_u], [name_u]Ira[/name_u], [name_u]Ozzy[/name_u], etc. that seem to be having a moment lately with the more ā€˜hipster’ set.

I love [name_m]Abel[/name_m]! It is on my own list but I do worry about the whole [name_m]Cain[/name_m] and [name_m]Abel[/name_m] association…

[name_m]Abe[/name_m] is okay. I don’t like it as much as [name_m]Abel[/name_m] but it works.

Another related name is [name_m]Abram[/name_m]. I know one and he wears it really well.

abe is so sweet, and i prefer it to abel—whether it’s a full name or nickname. however, both are great and abel ā€œabeā€ is a great way to go.

To be completely honest I’ve never liked [name_m]Abel[/name_m], I don’t really know why but for some reason it brings up an unpleasant image for me, and not just because of the [name_m]Cain[/name_m] and [name_m]Abel[/name_m] association. But that’s just me. I do like [name_m]Abe[/name_m], I think it’s a cute nickname but I’m kind of conflicted about it just on its own.

I don’t care for either, but that’s just me. They both sound too Biblical and too old man. I love [name_u]Amos[/name_u] though!

honestly, i prefer abe as a nickname for abram and abraham and i love abel in theory but as a disabled person (whose disabilities are genetic) i don’t think i personally could name a kid abel, i feel like it’d just make it weird (and the hypothetical kid inherited any of them i bet that’d make for some uncomfortable comments and i couldn’t put a kid through that).

Thanks all! We’re considering one/both as a nickname for [name_m]Aleksander[/name_m] [name_u]Blaise[/name_u] (which is his double first name), who we sort of have been calling AB in our seemingly endless quest for the name that fits him.

I love [name_m]Abram[/name_m] too, but it’s not great with our last name (not impossible, but not super) and feels like more of a stretch and not as nicknamey, if that makes sense. [name_m]Abram[/name_m] would definitely be my favorite over the other two though!

I want to like [name_m]Abel[/name_m] more than I actually do- it has a nice distinctiveness to it and a gentleness, but its semblance to ā€˜able’ bothers me.

I love the nickname [name_m]Abe[/name_m]. I’m a big fan of [name_m]Abner[/name_m], nickname [name_m]Abe[/name_m]. And I do think [name_m]Abe[/name_m] is a cute nickname for [name_m]Aleksander[/name_m] [name_u]Blaise[/name_u].

With this context I love [name_m]Abe[/name_m]!
