[name]Hi[/name]!
We will be naming our first baby girl [name]Abigail[/name], which I love. I don’t love the nn [name]Abby[/name], but I super love [name]Libby[/name]. I read a couple of places online where people used this nn. [name]Do[/name] you think it works?
Thanks!
I don’t think it works for [name]Abigail[/name] but people nickname others what they want and if you like it you should use it. Everyone else will if you will so I wouldn’t worry about others calling her [name]Abby[/name].
I actually thought about it and it makes some more sense now. I think it would be cute on a little girl!
[name]Libby[/name] is definitely not an intuitive nn for [name]Abigail[/name], but you can try it. If you love it, why not? /plenty of nicknams are considered to be a stretch. [name]Just[/name] be sure you are comfortable with her being called [name]Abby[/name] someday, because you won’t have control over what her friends call her (or what she might want to call herself). But I think [name]Abigail[/name], [name]Libby[/name] and [name]Abby[/name] are all fabulous – go for it!
[name]Libby[/name] wouldn’t be my first instinct for [name]Abigail[/name], but it’s doable. Like norskelove said, a lot of nicknames are stretches. [name]Libby[/name] for [name]Abigail[/name] is pretty cute, and if [name]Betty[/name] can be used for [name]Elizabeth[/name], then why not?
It wouldn’t be my first choice, but I think it’s not too far of a leap. As previous posters have said, not all nicknames are intuitive. Like [name]Libby[/name] or [name]Lilibet[/name] for [name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]Molly[/name] or [name]Polly[/name] for [name]Mary[/name], and the like. The sound isn’t far removed, and very pretty. Go for it!
It does seems like a big stretch. Why not just use [name]Libby[/name] as a first name if you love it?
