??? about Isla

I’ve posted this in a couple other places, but wanted to ask here too. I just found out I’m prego with DD#3 and me and DH are considering [name]Isla[/name] (pronounced Eye-la) for her name…I know [name]Isla[/name] has shot up in popularity, but I am wondering just how popular you think it’ll be? I have a [name]Lucy[/name] which i know has gained popularity, but I guess I’m not too worried as long as it is not in the top 10. My name is [name]Ashley[/name] (yeah, thanks mom!) and I grew up with sometimes FIVE [name]Ashley[/name]'s in my class and I just don’t want that for my girls! So I’m just wondering what you foresee for [name]Isla[/name]??? I can see the pronunciation being a problem for some people, but I also think that the more it is used, the less of a problem it will be. I am waiting to totally commit until social security puts out the numbers for 2010. I have tried to find similar type names but [name]Isla[/name] is one of the only TWO names that DH likes–(seriously–he has shot down THOUSANDS of names) and I do just love it! …The other name we are considering is [name]Hattie[/name], but we don’t like [name]Harriet[/name] or [name]Henrietta[/name] and I’m just not sure of [name]Hattie[/name] for the formal name… So basically any insights or thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks so much!

I think [name]Isla[/name] is a beautiful name, but your concerns are definitely valid. I think you hit the nail on the head with everything you said, really. I’m sure she’ll rise quite a bit, but your daughter will be ahead of the curve. It is very unlikely she’d have another in her class unless it’s very popular in your area. I think we’re all a bit overly concerned with popularity (myself included) here, and I can’t remember [name]Isla[/name]'s ranking, but I’m sure it’s low enough that she probably won’t even meet another for quite a while.

I also love [name]Hattie[/name] but not [name]Harriet[/name] or [name]Henrietta[/name]. And I also wouldn’t use it as a stand alone, but I think it could work if you wanted it to.
