Abram or Ames? Which do you prefer?

As a first name, would you prefer [name_m]Abram[/name_m] or [name_u]Ames[/name_u]? What impressions do the names give you?

Also, I pronounce [name_m]Abram[/name_m] more like Abe-rum than Abe-ram, and [name_u]Ames[/name_u] as Aims not Aim-es. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think those would be the most common pronunciations, or would they constantly be correcting people?

If you’ve seen me flooding the boys forum :sweat_smile:, you know I am so smitten with [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] [name_u]Ames[/name_u]. I still am. [name_m]Just[/name_m] adore it. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband is considering [name_m]Solomon[/name_m], but he and his family are kind of meh on [name_u]Ames[/name_u] as the middle. He also has an aunt [name_f]Amy[/name_f] who apparently gets called [name_u]Ames[/name_u] occasionally. :weary:Still considering it as a middle name, but it doesn’t help me in pleading my case for it.

I can’t remember if someone suggested [name_m]Abram[/name_m] to me or if I saw it on a separate post, but I think [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] [name_m]Abram[/name_m] could be an alternative to [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] [name_u]Ames[/name_u] while still feeling sort of similar? I love thé Biblical ties of [name_m]Solomon[/name_m], but would the combo [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] [name_m]Abram[/name_m] sound TOO Biblical?

I haven’t quite decided how I feel about [name_m]Abram[/name_m] as a first name. I’ll have to think on it since I’ve been crushing on [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] so hard for so long now.

But here are some combos that make me like the possibility of [name_m]Abram[/name_m] /Abe as a first name:

[name_m]Abram[/name_m] [name_u]Nolan[/name_u] :heart::heart:

[name_m]Abram[/name_m] Finnegan❤️

[name_m]Abram[/name_m] [name_u]Finch[/name_u]
(don’t think this really flows, I just love Finch?)

[name_m]Abram[/name_m] [name_m]Obadiah[/name_m] :heart::heart:
(I love [name_m]Obadiah[/name_m] [name_u]Ames[/name_u] as a combo, and the nickname [name_m]Obie[/name_m] is SO SWEET! But I cannot get my husband on board with [name_m]Obadiah[/name_m] as a first name).

[name_m]Abram[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] :heart:

Last name is two syllables, starts with St-, has an o in the middle, and ends in -er.
Big brother is [name_m]Warren[/name_m] [name_m]Patrick[/name_m].

Definitely [name_u]Ames[/name_u] for me, I like short names that aren’t too common but are stylish sounding and could be easily worn by different personalities……sportsman, arts, rough and rugged, I think [name_u]Ames[/name_u] hits all the right notes.

[name_m]Abram[/name_m] is international, cool and warm - a little studious, a little outdoorsy

[name_u]Ames[/name_u] is cool and distinctive, soft and smart.

[name_m]Solomon[/name_m] [name_m]Abram[/name_m] is cute though quite biblical and a tiny bit rhymey?

[name_m]Abram[/name_m] [name_u]Finch[/name_u] flows and is charming; [name_m]Abram[/name_m] [name_u]Nolan[/name_u] is very cool and balanced.

I was going to suggest [name_m]Bram[/name_m] - similar look to [name_u]Ames[/name_u] - and a single syllable - [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] [name_m]Bram[/name_m] sounds good to me too - but then I realised it might sound verrrry similar to an author’s name with your surname :grin: [name_m]Abel[/name_m] would be cute too. [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] [name_m]Abel[/name_m]?

I like both names. I would spell them the way you want to pronounce them: Abrum, Aims

[name_m]Solomon[/name_m] Abrum is very biblical and doesn’t quite go with [name_m]Warren[/name_m] [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] for me. I think [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] Aims would go. If Aims was his mn, it wouldn’t be confusing with his aunt.

I like [name_u]Finch[/name_u] Abrum with brother [name_m]Warren[/name_m] [name_m]Patrick[/name_m].

I prefer [name_u]Ames[/name_u]! It’s softer in sound and evokes lovely imagery - a little boy always venturing into nature, climbing trees, with a love for animals! I’d pronounce both them as you said.
I’d also like to say that I love the nickname [name_m]Abe[/name_m] for [name_m]Abram[/name_m]! :chipmunk: :brown_heart:

I love the sweet, soft sound of [name_m]Abram[/name_m] [name_u]Nolan[/name_u] and [name_m]Abram[/name_m] [name_m]Obadiah[/name_m]! I feel the same way as you about [name_m]Obie[/name_m]! :face_holding_back_tears:

I think [name_m]Soloman[/name_m] [name_u]Ames[/name_u] is gorgeous, and it seems like you do too. If [name_u]Ames[/name_u] is a middle name, he doesn’t get called it (so people won’t get confused with his aunt) but you still get to enjoy your love for the combo! Go with the name you truly love, girl!

I definitely prefer [name_u]Ames[/name_u]. I love the meaning and it doesn’t feel as dated as [name_m]Abram[/name_m] and isn’t as heavy to carry as a name.

But your [name_m]Abram[/name_m] [name_u]Finch[/name_u] is cute.

I also prefer [name_m]Obadiah[/name_m] to [name_m]Abram[/name_m]

I love both [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] and [name_u]Ames[/name_u]! [name_u]Super[/name_u] sweet , underused names. [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] [name_u]Ames[/name_u] is a great combo, and I think the pronunciation of [name_u]Ames[/name_u] is very intuitive! I’m personally not a big fan of [name_m]Abram[/name_m], I just don’t love the harsher sound (and I could see it getting mixed up with [name_m]Abraham[/name_m] a lot).

If you want to avoid combos that feel intentionally super biblical, I wouldn’t do [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] [name_m]Abram[/name_m] or [name_m]Abram[/name_m] [name_m]Obadiah[/name_m]. [name_m]Abram[/name_m] [name_u]Finnegan[/name_u] is my favourite [name_m]Abram[/name_m] combo, and [name_m]Abram[/name_m] [name_u]Finch[/name_u] is also cool!

[name_m]Solomon[/name_m] [name_u]Ames[/name_u] and [name_m]Abram[/name_m] [name_m]Obadiah[/name_m] would be amazing as brothers! I know boys name both [name_m]Abram[/name_m] and [name_u]Ames[/name_u], and they both wear them very well!

Those are the pronunciations I thought too. [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_u]Ames[/name_u] and [name_m]Obadiah[/name_m] as first names.

I love [name_m]Bramwell[/name_m] and [name_u]Ames[/name_u].
