We have plenty of time to decide, but this is one of the first serious this/that situation dh and I have come to in the boy name hunt.
He is set on [name_m]Abram[/name_m], nn [name_m]Abe[/name_m]. Maybe nn [name_m]Bram[/name_m], but [name_m]Abe[/name_m] is a little bolder, I guess. This was the name we had picked out last time before we found out it was a girl.
I struggle big time with boy names. I’m ok with [name_m]Abram[/name_m] but am looking for something that I love. I was bouncing around [name_u]August[/name_u] nn [name_u]Gus[/name_u]. Dh isn’t sold. I like that it’s a nature name. [name_m]Abram[/name_m] being so biblical is a downside for me. Neither a plus or minus (to us) but maybe something to note is that my daughter’s middle name is [name_u]June[/name_u].
Any opinions on which you think is better between the two? [name_f]TIA[/name_f]!
I prefer [name_u]August[/name_u], but [name_m]Abram[/name_m] nn [name_m]Abe[/name_m] is definitely a strong, solid choice with a bit of spunk. [name_u]August[/name_u] is strong, but softer and poetic in my mind. I associate it with [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Wilson[/name_m] (playwright) more than anything else. Which is a great association, [name_f]IMO[/name_f].
It might be funny to have 2 month names, but since [name_u]June[/name_u] is a middle it’s not really a big deal. Are you willing to share your daughter’s first name? I think that and flow with last name would be deciding factors for me.
[name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Abram[/name_m] is another thought. Then you could still have [name_m]Abe[/name_m] as an option?
This is interesting to me because I love [name_m]Abram[/name_m] and have it on my list. My husband has [name_u]August[/name_u] on his list. Neither one of us can come to an agreement, so I think we are going a different direction.
I am obviously biased towards [name_m]Abram[/name_m]. I love the nn [name_m]Abe[/name_m].
I really like both [name_m]Abram[/name_m] and [name_u]August[/name_u], can’t really get behind the nickname [name_u]Gus[/name_u] though.
I prefer [name_m]Abram[/name_m] with [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] (the [name_u]June[/name_u]/[name_u]August[/name_u] thing would bother me, but if not you then go for it!). [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] is a lovely name btw!
I really like both names, and either would be a solid pick for a brother to Eliza.
I wouldn’t worry about the month thing as June’s only a middle name - if anything, it’s a sweet, subtle link between the two names. I like that August feels refined but wearable and a little bit fun, like Eliza. In full, I think August is better as a brother to Eliza, BUT I dislike the nn Gus. I think it sounds too dull and macho next to sweet Eliza.
Abram is a lovely name too. I like that it’s a shorter, spunkier version of a stodgier classic, just like Eliza (Elizabeth). Yes, it’s Biblical, but if you plan on calling him Abe then that won’t be too obvious. FWIW, though I like Abe, I much prefer Bram as a nn for Abram. It sounds absolutely lovely with Eliza as well (though Abe does sound good too).
I think I’d go with Abram, because I think both the full name and the nickname are lovely and sit really well alongside Eliza. I only really like August in full, so I do like the suggestion of using it as the mn: Abram August. Soooo handsome, though it depends on whether you’re willing to have a months-as-middles theme going on. If you’d like more children, you might feel obliged to continue it. April and May, or even January, are wearable enough for girls, but not sure about another boy month name… March, maybe?
Hmm both go well with [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], so that’s no help! I still prefer [name_u]August[/name_u]/[name_u]Gus[/name_u] personally, but they’re both good choices.
Maybe brainstorm some more names with nature associations and/or strong, masculine, spunky nicknames? Let us know if you want help with that!
I really like [name_m]Abram[/name_m] and [name_m]Abe[/name_m]. [name_u]August[/name_u] coupled with [name_u]June[/name_u] may be a little odd, but since it’s a middle name…
I do like [name_u]Gus[/name_u], but just not [name_u]August[/name_u]. Also I think [name_m]Abram[/name_m] would sound better with a S last name than [name_u]August[/name_u]. Like, most times you’ll only be seeing first and last name and when I say [name_u]August[/name_u] with S last name, it’s like [name_u]August[/name_u]-sssss Know what I mean? Hard to convey in typing Good luck!
Thanks for all the great replies! It’s given me a lot to think about, though I don’t know if I’m leaning either way now. I think at this rate he’ll end up [name_m]Abram[/name_m] just because my husband likes that one and I’m pretty apathetic towards everything. I can’t tell if it’s my hormones or just boy names. I have a huge list for girls and it would have likely come down to either [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] or [name_f]Coraline[/name_f].
I feel like I’ve looked at every name out there but here’s my boy list. Nothing is a love for me yet. [name_m]Abram[/name_m] is the only one the husband likes. He has no further input beyond [name_m]Abram[/name_m], apparently.
[name_m]Abram[/name_m]
[name_u]August[/name_u]
[name_m]Levi[/name_m] - family name but not keen on the biblical ad dh doesn’t want a family name
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m]
[name_u]Flynn[/name_u]
[name_u]Zephyr[/name_u]
[name_u]Theo[/name_u]
[name_m]Asher[/name_m]
[name_m]Harvey[/name_m]
A “[name_u]Cal[/name_u]” name
[name_u]Kai[/name_u]
[name_m]Milo[/name_m]
[name_m]Felix[/name_m]
[name_m]George[/name_m]
I like [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] but no longer version
[name_m]Amos[/name_m] maybe
You and your hubby sound just like us. I have a long list of girls names but am really struggling with a boy name. My hubby mainly “helps” by vetoing names I like but not coming up with alternatives.
I like both [name_m]Lewis[/name_m] and [name_m]Harvey[/name_m], he nixed both.
Right now [name_u]Rex[/name_u] (full name [name_m]Reginald[/name_m]) is our front runner, though he is also open to [name_u]August[/name_u]. My only issue with [name_u]August[/name_u] is that I don’t love the nn [name_u]Gus[/name_u].
If you like [name_m]Bram[/name_m] a longer form could be [name_m]Bramwell[/name_m]? (of course my husband dismissed that idea as well)
Too funny, [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Coraline[/name_f] was my #1 combo for girls for the last couple years. Decided to name my car (!) just for the chance to use it. [name_u]Love[/name_u] both, obv.
Anyway, you have some great names. I say don’t settle! I did, and it’s not the worst thing in the world, but I do wish I hadn’t been so apathetic in the naming process. Maybe it does have something to do with the hormones! Tho I’m sure everyone’s different.
Few more ideas: [name_m]Archer[/name_m] ([name_m]Archie[/name_m]), [name_u]Dexter[/name_u] ([name_m]Dex[/name_m]), [name_m]Wesley[/name_m] or [name_m]Weston[/name_m] ([name_m]Wes[/name_m]), [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] or [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m] ([name_u]Finn[/name_u]), [name_u]Calder[/name_u] or [name_m]Calvin[/name_m] ([name_u]Cal[/name_u]), [name_m]Vaughn[/name_m], [name_u]Spencer[/name_u], [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u], [name_m]Thayer[/name_m].
