Abram vs. Abraham

What do you think, Berries? Personal opinions & experiences, please!

I like both [name]Abram[/name] and [name]Abraham[/name]. I know of a little boy who is named [name]Abraham[/name] and it seems to work well with him. [name]Abram[/name] might be a little easier for a little boy to say and to learn how to spell. I guess you would just have to go with which names suits you the best!

I love [name]Abram[/name]…whereas I also like [name]Abraham[/name] but it feels too long for me to use. If my cousin didn’t have a little [name]Abram[/name] it would be on our list as its fits all my criteria

I like [name]Abram[/name] better. Very cool name, and [name]Abraham[/name] is all [name]Lincoln[/name] to me. Not a bad association, obviously, but just a very strong one.

I second this.

I prefer [name]Abram[/name]. It’s much more versatile and streamlined.

I prefer [name]Abraham[/name], because I tend to like names with length to them. But both are nice.

I like both, but I think that [name]Abram[/name] might be more popular than [name]Abraham[/name]. So I think it depends on if popularity bothers you. If so, [name]Abraham[/name] might be a better choice. I like [name]Bram[/name] as a nn for [name]Abram[/name] and [name]Abe[/name] as a nn for [name]Abraham[/name]. [name]Both[/name] names are equal to me.

I like [name]Abram[/name] better just because I like two-syllable names for boys. [name]Both[/name] names are darling.

It actually looks like [name]Abraham[/name] is quite a bit more common, at least in the US. Take a peek:

Much prefer [name]Abram[/name] (& [name]Bram[/name]) to [name]Abraham[/name] (& [name]Abe[/name]), it looks and sounds smarter to me, and I don’t like the word ‘ham’ hidden in [name]Abraham[/name]!

I like both. I prefer the longer formality of [name]Abraham[/name] but I really like the nn [name]Bram[/name] you get from [name]Abram[/name]. [name]Both[/name] are great though

I like [name]Bram[/name] as a nickname for either, unless you are going with the v-spellings in which case I like [name]Avi[/name]. I have known more Abrahams in the US than Abrams. Not all were Jews. I would never use [name]Abe[/name] as a NN, ever.

I usually like longer names, but in this case I prefer [name]Abram[/name]. Like many of the other posters, I like [name]Abraham[/name] well enough, but I far prefer [name]Abram[/name].

I prefer [name]Abraham[/name]. It has so much more significance. [name]Abram[/name] to me seems like the “not good enough” name, since the biblical [name]Abraham[/name] changes his name away from it.

Hasn’t hurt [name]Jacob[/name].

[name]One[/name] of my dear, dear friends just had a son last year and named him [name]Abraham[/name]. I personally prefer [name]Abram[/name] for it’s zip, but we call him [name]Abe[/name] all the time anyway, so it doesn’t really matter. I kind of like the idea that he will be officially recognized as [name]Abraham[/name], because it’s got such weight and manliness, but in day-to-day life he’ll always be [name]Abe[/name]. [name]Abraham[/name]'s the kinda name you’d be proud to have on a birth certificate or a college entrance exam.

I agree. [name]Abraham[/name] doesn’t quite feel like one of those names that are so out they’re in…it’s still “out” to me - I think the “ham” at then end and the [name]Lincoln[/name] association get to me.

I have been pondering the same question recently!

I have always like [name]Abraham[/name] and just recently started to like [name]Abram[/name]…

I would use [name]Abe[/name] as a nickname for either so the [name]Bram[/name] thing doesnt affect my opinion. At the moment I think [name]Abraham[/name] is just a little ahead in my opinion but not by much! [name]Both[/name] are great options and if DH agrees will be on my boys list!

I love both but prefer [name]Abraham[/name]. I’ve actually known a lot of Abrahams in my life, so it doesn’t feel too associated with [name]Lincoln[/name] to me.

I also love the Arabic version, [name]Ibrahim[/name]. Spunkier, imo.
