My husband and I are leaning toward [name]Ada[/name] for our baby due this spring. I think it is sweet, fresh, simple and sophisticated, and pairs well with our daughter, [name]Ella[/name]. But a part of me worries that it is too simple (with just two letters), could seem dull to some, and might become a joke (ate-a… insert food or silly thing here).
Our other much-loved name is [name]Willa[/name]. That was almost our daughter’s name, but [name]Ella[/name] is a family name on both sides and for that reason was important to us. I prefer [name]Willa[/name] to [name]Ada[/name], but think it is too much like [name]Ella[/name]. Is it bad to give my second daughter my second-favourite name because of sibset concerns??
I like vintage names from the same era as [name]Ella[/name] (late 1800s/early 1900s), and I want to avoid names that are too different (for example, no multisyllabic names such as [name]Josephine[/name]).
Would appreciate any and all feedback. Thank you, Berries!
[name]Willa[/name] and [name]Ella[/name] are waaaay too close for sisters. [name]Ada[/name] is adorable, and works way better with [name]Ella[/name] - although [name]Ada[/name] and [name]Ella[/name] sound pretty matchy together too, both short and ending with -a.
[name]Ella[/name] and [name]Willa[/name] almost sound the same to me when said out loud, which doesn’t make a great sibset. [name]Ada[/name] sounds better with [name]Ella[/name] and I also generally like it better.
[name]Ada[/name] is a beautiful name and I think it works so well with [name]Ella[/name] in a sibset. In terms of being too simple, I really don’t think it’s any more simple than [name]Ella[/name]…and it’s a little more uncommon. I actually love [name]Ada[/name] in general. I think it’s timeless and beautiful. Short but vibrant.
I love both [name]Ella[/name] and [name]Willa[/name] but I agree they are way too close for sisters. [name]Ada[/name] is really sweet. It’s a name I’ve never really given much thought to, but thinking about it now, I do really like it. It reminds me a lot of [name]Ava[/name] which is another name that I love.
I say go for [name]Ada[/name]. Simple, sweet, and sounds lovely next to [name]Ella[/name]. I don’t think you can go wrong!
[name]Willa[/name] is a great name, but it’s so similar to [name]Ella[/name]. There’s a two letter difference. But [name]Ada[/name] is great with [name]Ella[/name]. [name]Both[/name] are short and sweet, both are vintage, and both have a similar charm. I say yay to [name]Ada[/name]!
[name]Hope[/name] that helps!
In agreeance will pps; [name]Willa[/name] is so close to [name]Ella[/name], I wouldn’t do it. I also prefer [name]Ada[/name] to [name]Willa[/name]. I love it, actually! I posted a while back for suggestions for longer names that [name]Ada[/name] can be used as a nn for, because my surname doesn’t flow well with [name]Ada[/name]. I’m not sure if you’re interested in a longer name, as you mentioned disliking multi-syllabic names, but I thought I’d throw some suggestions out there just in case.
[name]Adele[/name]
[name]Adeline[/name] (know a sibset [name]Ella[/name] & [name]Adeline[/name] who are adorable!)
[name]Adelaide[/name]
[name]Adelie[/name]
[name]Veda[/name]
I like [name]Ada[/name] a lot, but I also think that it’s a bit matchy with [name]Ella[/name], to be honest ([name]Willa[/name] is waaaay too matchy!).
Some others that I think might fit your requirements:
[name]Ella[/name] and [name]Nora[/name]
[name]Ella[/name] and [name]Lucy[/name]
[name]Ella[/name] and [name]Mae[/name]
[name]Ella[/name] and [name]Iris[/name]
[name]Ella[/name] and [name]Clara[/name]
[name]Ella[/name] and [name]Petra[/name]
[name]Ella[/name] and [name]Rose[/name]
[name]Ella[/name] and [name]Lara[/name]
[name]Ella[/name] and [name]Greta[/name]
[name]Ella[/name] and [name]Celia[/name]
[name]Ella[/name] and [name]Rhea[/name]
[name]Ella[/name] and [name]Ivy[/name]
[name]Ella[/name] and [name]Delia[/name]
[name]Ella[/name] and [name]Nina[/name]
[name]Ella[/name] and [name]Cora[/name]
[name]Ella[/name] and [name]Ruby[/name]
[name]Ella[/name] and [name]June[/name]
[name]Ella[/name] and [name]Pearl[/name]
This. My sister and I have VERY similar names, with the exact same ending. Think [name]Anabella[/name] and [name]Isabella[/name]. That similar, exact same last 4 letters. It was AWFUL, and as an adult I immediately switched to one of my middle names. I love [name]Willa[/name], but it’s too similar to [name]Ella[/name]. [name]Ada[/name] is still pretty matchy. Sorry to be so vehement about this, but as someone who dealt with it for 18 years… it’s HORRENDOUS.
I love [name]Willa[/name], too. But, despite its simplistic beauty, [name]Willa[/name] is to close to [name]Ella[/name] to work as a sib-set. I think [name]Ada[/name] is also very beautiful and would work better with [name]Ella[/name].
I am normally not a fan of [name]Ada[/name], but with [name]Ella[/name] it sounds perfect. [name]Willa[/name] is too similar to [name]Ella[/name]. In case you’re interested in another suggestion…I know twin girls - [name]Ella[/name] and [name]Molly[/name] and I always thought those two names were so nice together.
I think [name]Ella[/name] and [name]Ada[/name] sound great together.
I know a sibset [name]Ella[/name] and [name]Audrey[/name], maybe it is something to consider?
Otherwise I would go with other two syllable names:
[name]Ella[/name] and [name]Nora[/name]
[name]Ella[/name] and [name]Wilma[/name]
[name]Ella[/name] and [name]Sophie[/name]
[name]Ella[/name] and [name]Ruby[/name]
[name]Ella[/name] and [name]Cora[/name]
[name]Ella[/name] and [name]Lucy[/name]
[name]Ella[/name] and [name]Vera[/name]
[name]Ella[/name] and [name]Clara[/name]
I think [name]Willa[/name] and [name]Ada[/name] are both great names, but I like [name]Ada[/name] so much more with [name]Ella[/name]. [name]Willa[/name] and [name]Ella[/name] are too similar in my opinion. I think [name]Ada[/name] is perfect.
I don’t think you have to be too worried about it being considered dull. It reminds me of other shorter names like [name]Ava[/name], [name]Eva[/name] and [name]Eve[/name] which are very fashionable right now.
[name]Ada[/name] is better, even though it’s more popular. [name]Willa[/name] is too close to [name]Ella[/name], and it’s so close to [name]Willow[/name], I can’t stop thinking about “I Whip My Hair”.
I prefer [name]Ada[/name] to [name]Willa[/name], but I’m not either name’s biggest fan either. Plus, I think that [name]Ada[/name] and [name]Ella[/name] are quite close.
