Ada

Hello!

So my husband and I really both like the name [name_f]Ada[/name_f] for a girl (we won’t know what we are having until the baby is born!)

my issues are this: i love the name [name_f]Ada[/name_f] - but do not like [name_f]Ava[/name_f] so much, as i feel like its super popular…im afraid ill constantly be correcting people. “no i didn’t say [name_f]Ava[/name_f], i said [name_f]ADA[/name_f]!” haha what do you think?

also middle name will be gayle, after my aunt who passed away. [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Gayle[/name_f] - tho i don’t think sounds bad together - i can’t shake the whole, sounds just like abigail thing!! i don’t know why but it bothers me!! even though i hardly ever call my two sons by their full names anyway…

i know i am probably just over thinking this - but we are having such a hard time picking a name we love! and this name is one of the few we both like if I can just get over these two little things…also our two sons also have short three letter names, so we both like how [name_f]Ada[/name_f] is like that as well

open to any suggestions as well…we like short sweet names - but would also love a name that begins with either an M or an L as well…

thanks!!

You might have to correct people sometimes but it’s not a huge deal when it happens. When I say my name is [name_f]Emily[/name_f], sometimes people hear [name_f]Emma[/name_f] or [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] and I correct them.

[name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Gayle[/name_f] is very sweet. I can see why you hear [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] but that wasn’t what I saw or heard initially. I think it’s a great choice–it fits with the other siblings, honors your aunt, and both you and your husband like it.

I love [name_f]Ada[/name_f]! It might get confused with [name_f]Ava[/name_f] sometimes, but the D-sound is distinct enough that it won’t happen too often.
[name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Gayle[/name_f] is lovely too. And if the [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] thing really bothers you (I didn’t notice it) you could always find another honor name or name you like to use as a middle name between [name_f]Ada[/name_f] and [name_f]Gayle[/name_f], as to break the [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] flow.

[name_f]Ada[/name_f] is beautiful! It might occasionally get misheard, but almost any names does.

I think [name_f]Ada[/name_f] is well known enough that it wouldn’t be too much of a problem.

I agree with adding another middle name, something like:

[name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Miranda[/name_f] [name_f]Gayle[/name_f]
[name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Gayle[/name_f]
[name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Gayle[/name_f]
[name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Savannah[/name_f] [name_f]Gayle[/name_f]
[name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Catherina[/name_f] [name_f]Gayle[/name_f]

I’d suggest using [name_f]Adriana[/name_f] or [name_f]Adrianna[/name_f] so her full name wouldn’t remind you of [name_f]Abigail[/name_f], and then call her [name_f]Ada[/name_f], but I don’t even know if it’s common practice anywhere else but my country. On the other hand, people tend to come up with so inventive diminutives to some names that maybe [name_f]Adriana[/name_f] nn [name_f]Ada[/name_f] isn’t so far fetched?

What about [name_f]Ida[/name_f]?

or…
[name_f]Mia[/name_f]
[name_f]Lark[/name_f]
[name_f]Lin[/name_f]
[name_f]Lila[/name_f]
[name_u]Lisa[/name_u]
[name_f]Liv[/name_f]
[name_f]Lux[/name_f]

Thank you all for your input…im glad that “abigail” isn’t as apparent as i thought  thank you!

I love [name_f]Ada[/name_f]! Good choice

[name_f]Ada[/name_f] is so pretty! I think the “d” sound in [name_f]Ada[/name_f] is strong enough that it won’t be misheard for [name_f]Ava[/name_f] very often. [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Gayle[/name_f] is a really sweet combo, and I didn’t see [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] at all until you mentioned it.
For suggestions, although [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Gayle[/name_f] is lovely:

[name_f]Ida[/name_f] [name_f]Gayle[/name_f]
[name_f]Lola[/name_f] [name_f]Gayle[/name_f]
[name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Gayle[/name_f]
[name_f]Eva[/name_f] [name_f]Gayle[/name_f]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Gayle[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Gayle[/name_f]
[name_f]Molly[/name_f] [name_f]Gayle[/name_f]
[name_f]Katie[/name_f] [name_f]Gayle[/name_f]

Congrats!
