Add this name to the NB Database, please.

Hey! It’s VegasCountryQueen (you can call me [name_u]Madison[/name_u] or Madi, whichever you prefer). I love names, like most of the members on NB. I’m not expecting, but I hope to have children someday. I am planning for the future now, so I’ll have an idea of what I want to name my kids. Anyways, I came across a really cool name in a book. The book is called “Divergent” by [name_f]Veronica[/name_f] [name_m]Roth[/name_m]. The name is Four. Technically, it’s a nickname, but I think it’s really cool. If [name_u]Seven[/name_u] is a name (which I think is also awesome, then why can’t Four be one? So, [name_f]Pam[/name_f] and [name_f]Linda[/name_f], could you add this name to your database, please? [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] [name_m]Eaton[/name_m] (Four) is a Pop Culture Reference to the name Four. I don’t think I’d name my baby Four, but I think it’s pretty dang awesome. [name_m]How[/name_m] do I get [name_f]Pam[/name_f] or [name_f]Linda[/name_f] to add this name to the NB database? Thank ya!
<3,
~ Madi

Well Madi I think Four is so freaking amazing. Thanks for telling us. I hope they will put on the database.

Indeed!

I’ll take this opportunity to put in a vote for Temujin. After all, it is Ghengis Khan’s real name, not to mention my cousins’ also (tho spelt Tamojin).

And Ethelreda! It’s even mentioned in the [name_f]Ethel[/name_f] article, so why not???

It’s really cute! I name I’d love in their database, is Philyra, which is greek. I’m so much in love with it, even though it’s the first four letters in my brothers name and my name mashed together. ^^

Hey everybody, we’re building an interface that lets berries add names to the db, which will definitely streamline this process!

Oh noooo… that might not be good. Soon, there’ll undoubtedly be Abcde, Mackynnzee, etc. :-/

I agree with casilda on this… hopefully there will be someone to screen the names before they are ‘officially’ added.

Casilda should be added! lovely medieval Spanish saint name…

It should and I keep forgetting that it’s not otherwise I would’ve suggest that it be added to the database!

Instead of making it so just anyone can add names, they could have several of us vet names before they’re added and allow some of the name researchers on here to add them? Maybe?

I do like the idea of berries being able to add names. Maybe only if they are over a certain number of posts or like giinkies said, have them screened before they are officially added.

Adding names to the Nameberry Database is fantasitic idea…
It would be more professional, and preferable, to have people with the approriate qualifications ([name_f]Pamela[/name_f] [name_m]Redmond[/name_m] Satran & [name_f]Linda[/name_f] Rosenkrantz, for example) in names, and their origins, to screen a new DB as opposed to members doing so- regardless of how many posts/ how long they have been w/Nameberry.
So allowing members to add is a great idea; allowing unqualified members to ‘screen’ them, on the other hand, is probably not

Screening members additions to the DB is a great idea but a job best left to those who have made it their life’s work - etymologists(?)- to do so.

Some of the members here are very knowledgeable on specific name origins (I’m specifically thinking Greek), more knowledgeable than even [name_f]Pam[/name_f] and [name_f]Linda[/name_f] in these specific areas. Other members know how to do their research and do a very good job of finding information regarding a name’s meaning.

What makes someone unqualified, anyways? [name_m]Just[/name_m] because someone doesn’t have a history of publishing books on names doesn’t mean they’re unqualified.

I think it’s a great idea but I think there needs to be some moderation or you’re going to have stuff in there that probably doesn’t need to be in there. Like [name_f]Bloodrayne[/name_f], which is in the database currently but I always thought shouldn’t be. You’ll get more like that.

Casilda, I agree with you. I speak Greek, I’m a full half-Greek, I’m a priestess in the Greek pagan religion and I’ve noted to the big bosses when there are problems in the database with the Greek names and generally they get fixed. I consider myself qualified but I’ve never written a name book nor is it my life’s work. The other half of me is Cherokee with just a bit of Choctaw and the language is difficult if you aren’t raised learning about it so I consider myself probably more qualified than [name_f]Pam[/name_f] and [name_f]Linda[/name_f] when it comes to Native American (specifically Cherokee) names (no offense intended to the two of you).

So yea, there are members on here who I would consider qualified to moderate incoming name suggestions to be added to the database. I have some people in mind :stuck_out_tongue:

Hey Dantea–how about a guest blog on Native American names?

I can certainly do that. I’ll get to work on it ASAP.

Yikes… I hope there will be someone who checks the names before they are added!

Yay! @dantea, I can’t wait to read your blog post! Your name suggestions are always great, and I love your daughter’s name
