Addie vs Hattie

having second thoughts on Adelaides nn. we were going with the most obvious [name]Addie[/name] but quite honestly the more [name]Addie[/name] is said the more i dont like it. im scared she will get [name]Addie[/name] alot from ppl who dont really like [name]Adelaide[/name], and from my husband and daughter who just love nn anyway. i still say [name]Addie[/name] only occassionally just cuz its easier to say sometimes but i really want her to be called mostly [name]Adelaide[/name].
but then i thought…hmm what about [name]Hattie[/name]? it rhymes with [name]Addie[/name]. what if i changed her middle name to start with an H? i cant change [name]Adelaide[/name] now it would seriously confuse my dd. love [name]Adelaide[/name] and [name]Hattie[/name] just not [name]Addie[/name]. dh likes [name]Hattie[/name] too as it was on our shortlist.
is this a far stretch? what middle name would be good? [name]Adelaide[/name] H_______ [name]Pearl[/name].
also as i love [name]Hattie[/name] sp it does look like a completely different name. would Haddie or Haddy be more expected? those sp do remind me of haddock tho haha…
should i ditch [name]Hattie[/name] altogether and go with [name]Addie[/name] even tho i cringe every time?

i guess i dont like it so much cuz i knew a girl named [name]Addie[/name] whose parents were going to name her [name]Adelaide[/name] nn [name]Addie[/name] but decided last min to just name her [name]Addie[/name]. she always wished her name was [name]Adelaide[/name]… but she was a backstabber and was not a nice girl. my close friend does not like [name]Adelaide[/name] nn [name]Addie[/name] because of her and maybe thats why i dont either…

[name]Adelaide[/name] [name]Hazel[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Adelaide[/name] [name]Helena[/name]/[name]Helen[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Adelaide[/name] [name]Honora[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Adelaide[/name] [name]Hermione[/name] pearl
[name]Adelaide[/name] [name]Hannah[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Adelaide[/name] [name]Hadley[/name] pearl
[name]Adelaide[/name] [name]Harper[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Adelaide[/name] [name]Hyacinth[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Adelaide[/name] [name]Henrietta[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Adelaide[/name] [name]Harmony[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]

What about [name]Adele[/name] as a nickname? It’s very pretty and is still only 2 syllables. I think [name]Hattie[/name] is a big stretch unless you use [name]Harriet[/name] as a middle name.

Also, I know you don’t want to hear this, but if [name]Addie[/name] makes you cringe, you may want to change the name. I’m sure your husband can be swayed if you come up with something else. You don’t want to cringe everytime someone calls her name, especially if family members will be calling her this!

I hope you find the perfect solution. I just don’t want you to have any regrets. Good luck!

hmmm thanks guys! ill talk to my dh today about ditching [name]Addie[/name] nn i guess i have two options.
[name]Hattie[/name] or [name]Adele[/name]. i love both! could also get nn [name]Elle[/name] from [name]Adele[/name] which i absolutely love reminds me of a ballerina. dh likes elle but not adele. since hes the one who likes to shorten the name- he loves “ie” nn. doubt he’ll go for [name]Adele[/name] when [name]Addie[/name] seems more logical.
but the other option is [name]Hattie[/name] which could work if i use [name]Adelaide[/name] [name]Henrietta[/name] [name]Jean[/name]-- theres several Henrys and Jeans on both of our sides but i dont know if thats wayy too stuffy. i kinda like it esp for fam significance and i could use [name]Hattie[/name].
ill talk to dh about [name]Hattie[/name] vs [name]Adele[/name]. im guessing he’ll say [name]Hattie[/name].
i thought about other names because i dont like [name]Addie[/name] but keep coming back to [name]Adelaide[/name] and it would confuse my toddler. seems this baby wants to be named [name]Adelaide[/name]

If he likes “ie” nicknames, I’ve heard a lot of people on here use “Lady” as a nickname for [name]Adelaide[/name], so that could be another option.

I agree with [name]Villette[/name]; [name]Hattie[/name] from [name]Adelaide[/name] is a serious stretch – in fact, I bet it’s so much of a stretch everyone ends up going back to [name]Addie[/name].

[name]Adele[/name] is very pretty, but it’s not really a nickname – it’s a name.

Lady/Ladie is definitely an option … but remember what nicknames essentially are – a shorter way to get someone’s name out. I am just afraid no matter what you do, [name]Adelaide[/name] will be [name]Addie[/name].

If you really don’t like [name]Addie[/name], I just think you have to think hard, hard, hard about [name]Adelaide[/name].

What about [name]Adelaide[/name] as a middle name? If you start the first name with any “H” name, and nn “Haddie,” then it’ll be a more natural progression.

Please don’t get me wrong – I’m not putting down your choices. I just think that your intentions at this point of the game regarding nicknames will be thrown out the window later on when the rest of the world gets ahold of the name.

well i guess youre right. my husband looked at me like i was strange and said well, im still gonna call her [name]Addie[/name]. ok, i give in. i love [name]Adelaide[/name] and im happy. he loves [name]Addie[/name] and hes happy. so in the end we both get names we love and its a good compromise. Addies not terrible i think it just reminds me of that girl but i know my baby will make her name her own.
thanks guys!

I totally empathize with you…I think my husb and I are going to choose [name]Annabel[/name] for our daughter, but I have negative associations with [name]Anne[/name]/[name]Anna[/name] (yet I still love [name]Annabel[/name]). DH said he wants to call her [name]Anna[/name], and I want to call her [name]Belle[/name]. Yet I’m scared everyone will naturally shorten it to [name]Anna[/name]/[name]Annie[/name]/[name]Anne[/name]. So hard to get over!! Anyway, I guess I don’t really have any advice or anything, just wanted to sympathize.

I relate to your issue. I love [name]Adelaide[/name], but I can’t stand [name]Addie[/name]. I think [name]Adele[/name] is a good nickname. I doubt you can use [name]Hattie[/name] unless you use [name]Harriet[/name] or [name]Henrietta[/name] as a middle, but I agree [name]Hattie[/name] is very cute. Although what about [name]Heidi[/name]? It’s kind of like [name]Hattie[/name], and it’s actually a nickname for [name]Adelaide[/name]. Well it’s a nickname for [name]Adelheid[/name], which [name]Adelaide[/name] is a variation on. I think it could definitely work, and [name]Heidi[/name] is really cute. If you don’t like [name]Heidi[/name] then i would go with [name]Adele[/name].

I was just about to suggest [name]Heidi[/name] as well. If we use [name]Adelaide[/name] the nickname would deffinitely be [name]Heidi[/name]- it is too cute! [name]Addy[/name] and [name]Maddy[/name] are just too popular right now for my tastes. She will almost certainly have at least one other addy/maddy in her class.

Or what about [name]Della[/name]?

I always liked [name]Heidi[/name] as a nickname for [name]Adelaide[/name]. [name]Adele[/name] would be my other suggestion. I just want to say that I love [name]Adelaide[/name].
