Our first child is due in a couple of weeks, and we’re stuck on a last issue with the name we’ve chosen.
We planned on using [name_m]Leo[/name_m] [name_m]Frederic[/name_m]. But we also want to use a family name. Neither [name_m]Leo[/name_m] nor [name_m]Frederic[/name_m] is a family name for either of us.
So we were thinking of using [name_m]Leo[/name_m] [name_m]Grant[/name_m] [name_m]Frederic[/name_m]. With [name_m]Grant[/name_m] being a family name. And we quite like it too.
Should we add [name_m]Grant[/name_m], or just lose the family name idea?
I would use it. I like [name_m]Leo[/name_m] [name_m]Grant[/name_m] [name_m]Frederick[/name_m], but [name_m]Leo[/name_m] [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] [name_m]Grant[/name_m] is really nice as well. I like the use of honour names especially if the person you are honouring is still with us.
Well, seeing that I have [name_m]Grant[/name_m] Frédéric [name_m]Conrad[/name_m] on my own list (as well as [name_m]Leo[/name_m]!), I think it’s a great choice! I’m obviously biased, though, lol. I guess it depends on how you say [name_m]Frederic[/name_m]–like the English [name_m]Frederick[/name_m]? Or like the [name_m]French[/name_m] Frédéric? Because the latter has emphasis on the last syllable (to me, at least), so [name_m]Leo[/name_m] [name_m]Grant[/name_m] [name_m]Frederic[/name_m] makes more sense, but if you say it like the English [name_m]Frederick[/name_m], I think [name_m]Leo[/name_m] [name_m]Frederic[/name_m] [name_m]Grant[/name_m] sounds a little better (although I find [name_m]Grant[/name_m] [name_m]Frederic[/name_m]/[name_m]Grant[/name_m] Frédéric to be one of the most aesthetically pleasing combos I’ve ever come across!). Regardless of the order, I say yes! [name_m]Leo[/name_m] [name_m]Grant[/name_m] [name_m]Frederic[/name_m] is a great combo.
