Are [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] and [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] too similar for twin girl names? Nicknames would be “[name_f]Della[/name_f]” and “[name_f]Bea[/name_f]” or “[name_f]Belle[/name_f].”
We picked our top two names for girls and they just so happened to share the same first initial which I initially balked at due to the fact that they are twins.
I didn’t want twins too appear too “matchy” with the same first initials but it’s getting harder to justify using our third favorite name…
I personally wouldn’t do it. Same-sex twins tend to get mixed up with one another frequently. I’d also like to point out that twins tend to thrive for individuality as they get older. I think these name would be fine for regular sisters but with twins I feel like it doesn’t give them enough wiggle room to be different in the way they may want to be (from each other).
[name_m]Just[/name_m] speaking as a twin :). My brother and I have completely different names and I remember being so happy about that as a kid lol.
I think they’re sweet together, and they aren’t so close they’d sound the same yelled across the house or anything. I love the matching rhythms. Honestly a little coordination can’t hurt, especially if you love the names, and you can’t really anticipate whether they’ll hate it or not – I’ve known twins who hated it and those who loved it, so there’s no use preparing for a hypothetical situation.
I think they would be fine if you are able to make those nicknames stick which may be difficult, because the intuitive nicknames are [name_f]Annie[/name_f] and [name_f]Addie[/name_f], which are too matchy.
I think it’s borderline, but it would depend on the nickname. I think [name_f]Della[/name_f] and [name_f]Belle[/name_f] would be too close and you would run the risk of having them called [name_f]Della[/name_f] and [name_f]Bella[/name_f]. I think if you went with [name_f]Addie[/name_f] or [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] for [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] it might work better. [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] and [name_f]Belle[/name_f] would be sweet.
As a twin of a girl, I think far more important than the names is to stop/limit people comparing them even in a careless, fairly benign way (eg are you the sporty or smart one?) and try to limit use of “the twins” as a identifier esp if you have other (single) kids. I think the names are different enough though you’ll probably get less control over the nicknames unless they’re as different as [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] and [name_f]Annie[/name_f]or Belle. [name_f]Della[/name_f] is just asking for “[name_f]Della[/name_f] and [name_f]Bella[/name_f]/ [name_u]Dell[/name_u] and [name_u]Bell[/name_u]” even if you’re going for Bea, which could grate on them over time…
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] and [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] are fine for twins. Your name doesn’t prevent you from being “an individual” unless you have no personality to begin with.
