I’m not typically a fan of location names but I recently realized I love Adelaide. I was wondering what others thought of it.
It was a girls name before it was a city, do you think of the city automatically when it’s mentioned?
Are there any nicknames you could use, apart from the obvious Addie/Addy?
Edit: I don’t think the city is a bad association at all, I’m just wondering because of my general dislike of location names

No, not at all. It was a name before it was given to the city. 
I think Adelaide is gorgeous! Definitely deserves more love. As for nicknames, I personally would just use the name in full. I will add, though, that I’ve seen some people like “Ada” as a nn for Adelaide.
I think its really pretty as well and don’t think of the city ever when hearing the name.
I personally love the name [name_f]Adalaide[/name_f]! I do not think of the city when I hear it because it is adorable on a little girl. I also love the abundance of sweet nicknames you can use with it

I will say that before I was on nameberry, although I knew objectively that adelaide had a history as a name, I only thought of the city. a brief question to my non-namey family reveals that they only think of the city as well. so I don’t think of the city, but I’m not a great source.

I love Adelaide, it used to be my #1 name! I’m in the US and I definitely think of it as a name first. I think it’s much more popular in the US than the UK/elsewhere so the name vs place association could be influenced by that.

I immediately think of a song by this name, but it’s not a well-known song or band! The song isn’t portraying the name in a great light, but I still love it and would be elated to meet a little Adelaide with a parent who knows the song! Link to the song on YouTube
