Adeline or Madeline? Why?

Both names end in “[name_f]LINE[/name_f].” Why would you favor one over the other?

I like both equally but [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] would win for me because [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] is much more common, I also like the possibility of nn [name_f]Ada[/name_f] for [name_f]Adeline[/name_f].

I like both, but I have really fallen for [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]…especially with the nn [name_f]Della[/name_f] swoons

I love [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] much more, but I would’ve said “Mad’LEEN” if you hadn’t said otherwise, lol. I prefer that pronounciation ([name_m]French[/name_m] pronounciation) but I prefer the way you pronounce it over [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] anyways. It’s sweet and not as popular (although till pretty popular) and [name_f]Maddie[/name_f] is pretty cute.

I love [name_f]Madeline[/name_f]. It just ages well and in my eyes will never become dated. I absolutely adore the nickname [name_f]Maddy[/name_f]!

In the sea of Madelines nicknamed “[name_f]Maddie[/name_f]”, I much prefer her cousin [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]. To me, it’s a sweet, timeless but neglected classic. Perhaps [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] will be the new [name_f]Madeline[/name_f]?

I love both [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Madeline[/name_f], but I think I like [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] better! I’ve always loved this name ever since I was a child. I think it sounds elegant.

I really favour [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]! I know about a thousand [name_f]Maddie[/name_f]'s and I think [name_f]Addie[/name_f] and [name_f]Ada[/name_f] are so much more sweet and classic than [name_f]Maddie[/name_f]. For me, I associate [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] with [name_u]Madison[/name_u], a name I don’t love.

In fact, I have two close friends who are both [name_f]Maddie[/name_f], one is actually [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] and the other is [name_u]Madison[/name_u] but they both get called [name_u]Madison[/name_u].

Those are both lovely names, but I prefer [name_f]Madeline[/name_f]. I like the look and feel of that name, and it’s more timeless [name_f]IMO[/name_f] than [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]. Also, when those two names are side by side, [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] looks like a chopped short version of [name_f]Madeline[/name_f].

[name_f]Adeline[/name_f] hands down, but I don’t think most people would pronounce it right. [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] was my great-great-great-great grandmother’s name, but the “line” was pronounced “lean”. I’ve never been a fan of [name_f]Madeline[/name_f], and I really can’t stand the nickname [name_f]Maddie[/name_f]. Whereas [name_f]Adele[/name_f] is on my list of girl’s names for a first name, and [name_f]Adelina[/name_f] or [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] are on my list for possible middles.

I think when it comes to nicknames, I prefer [name_f]Addie[/name_f] over [name_f]Maddy[/name_f]. However, to me [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] is a name I see on an older woman. I see a slim lady, reserved, with silver hair, I also associate this name with an icy blue color. Where with the name [name_f]Madeline[/name_f], I see a girl with dark hair and fair skin, I think of red, and she is a sweetheart. I can also see this on a woman in her 20-30s again with dark hair and fair skin.
Both names I like, and these are only my opinions and images I associate with them.
