Adeline with sibling Emmeline?

[name_u]Baby[/name_u] no 3 is due and we cannot decide on a name.

The name we both love is [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]. We worry its too similar to our second daughter [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]. Pronounced ‘[name_f]Emma[/name_f]-line’.

We are considering pronouncing [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] ‘[name_m]Ad[/name_m]-a-lin’ which we also like.

Thoughts? We also have a [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and love the classic, pretty names that are more than 6 letters due to a 3 letter surname. Are [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] & [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] too similar? [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] gets [name_f]Emma[/name_f] mostly.

I think they would be fine as siblings, given how different the pronunciations are.

If how the names are written down, and their similarity, doesn’t bother you, then it should be fine.

If it were me, I would use the [name_f]Adelyn[/name_f] spelling so that the names wouldn’t look so similar.

I would prefer [name_f]Adelynn[/name_f] or [name_f]Adelyn[/name_f]. But [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] would be fine too.

The problem I see is the spelling. If she will be add uh lyn, I would spell it [name_f]Adelyn[/name_f].

If you want the -lynn ending, it should be spelled [name_f]Adalyn[/name_f] or [name_f]Adalynn[/name_f] otherwise you’re going to have issues since [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] is supposed to be [name_m]Ad[/name_m]-uh-line (like in the movie: Age of [name_f]Adaline[/name_f]).

So my instinct was too close, but after seeing you want the -lyn ending, it’s not so bad, but would definitely spell it another way.

Thanks for the replies. I actually prefer [name_f]Ada[/name_f]-line pronunciation but feel this is too close to the [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f].

Its the old [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] = Mad-a-lyn thing too. [name_f]Every[/name_f] [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] I know is pronounced with the ‘lyn’ not the line (we are Australian). Not sure DH will go for the [name_f]Adelyn[/name_f]/[name_f]Adalyn[/name_f] spelling as we prefer the original french variant spelling. But he also thinks its odd we would have two girls with the same ending on their name and one is ‘line’ and one is ‘lyn’.

I love [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]! (And [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]!) I do think [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] are probably too similar, but what about another [name_f]Adele[/name_f] name, like [name_f]Adelia[/name_f], [name_f]Adelina[/name_f], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], or even [name_f]Adelaine[/name_f]? More distinctive from [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] that way. I think [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], and [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] are perfect for sisters, too, although, if you’re Australian, maybe [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] isn’t the best for a little Australian girl? Stylistically (and to avoid matchy endings), I would say [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] is best, but I think [name_f]Adelina[/name_f] or [name_f]Adelia[/name_f] would also work well, or even [name_f]Adelaine[/name_f], although it’s much more unusual.

Good luck!

Since they are being pronounced differently, I think the only problem is the spelling. Spelt with a ‘y’ would be much better.

If you are in love with [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] I think you have to go with [name_f]Adelynn[/name_f] spelling and pronunciation.

I have always loved [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] as sisters and who doesn’t love [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f].
I could see it being a deal breaker if you live there specifically though.
But there are plenty of [name_f]Georgia[/name_f]'s who live in the US so why can’t an [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] live in Australia.

Maybe a lee name if you are looking for a new ending that still has an l in the end,
lotte, line, lee makes sequential sense to me.
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], and [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], and [name_f]Cecily[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], and [name_f]Coralie[/name_f]

Your oldest two have lovely names, I’m sure you’ll find the perfect one for this one too!

Such pretty names but I think they’re too close to be sibling names

I think that they are way too close.
