What are everyone’s thoughts on the name [name]Adeline[/name] (line, not lyn) with the nickname [name]Ada[/name] (add-uh)? I really like the name [name]Adeline[/name], and while I like [name]Addie[/name]/[name]Addy[/name] it is quite popular. I love the name [name]Ada[/name], and I like having a longer name for it. I wouldn’t mind if she were to be called [name]Addie[/name]/[name]Addy[/name], I would just rather have that be her choice in the future. So thoughts on [name]Adeline[/name]/[name]Ada[/name]? Also, any middle name suggestions? I kind of like [name]Adeline[/name] [name]Opal[/name] at the moment.
I think that [name]Adeline[/name] nicknamed [name]Ada[/name] is gorgeous, but my first instinct was to pronounce [name]Ada[/name] like ay-duh rather than add-uh, even though [name]Adeline[/name] begins with the add sound.
[name]Adeline[/name] [name]Opal[/name] is very pretty! I like it a lot.

Thanks for your thoughts! I feel like on most things since [name]Adeline[/name] will be what’s written down, the pronounciation of [name]Ada[/name] wouldn’t be a huge deal; she wouldn’t go by that all the time so people would know that it’s not her given name. I love [name]Adeline[/name] [name]Georgia[/name] and [name]Adeline[/name] [name]Sylvie[/name]!
[name]Adeline[/name] nn [name]Ada[/name] works great. [name]Adeline[/name] [name]Opal[/name] is very pretty. I like the previous suggestions of [name]Adeline[/name] [name]Verity[/name] and [name]Adeline[/name] [name]Georgia[/name] as well.
I think it works.
[name]Adeline[/name] is our number one choice for our baby if it turns out to be a girl! And we’d actually be naming her after my husband’s grandmother, whose name was [name]Ada[/name]. I think [name]Ada[/name] could definitely work as a nickname for [name]Adeline[/name], even if the “a” sound is pronounced definitely . I’m not a huge fan of [name]Addie[/name].
I love the name [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]. Elegant, ladylike, vintage, spelled in it’s traditional manner - this name ticks all of our boxes, too.
[name_f]Adeline[/name_f] [name_f]Opal[/name_f] is beautiful. I really like the combination of a three-syllable first name with a two-syllable second name. [name_m]How[/name_m] many syllables does your last name have? If it helps, the middle name combination we’re considering is [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], with a two-syllable surname that begins with an ‘m’.
Also, I really love the nickname [name_f]Ada[/name_f] (pronounced ay-duh). This is a great variation on the more common [name_f]Addie[/name_f] (which I still absolutely adore, even if it is widely used). I don’t think it matters at all that the sound of the ‘a’ is different; my personal opinion is that ‘ay-duh’ sounds a lot prettier than ‘add-er’. My husband’s great grandmother was an [name_f]Ada[/name_f], which is another reason we want to use this name.
There are lots of other nicknames that could be options for [name_f]Adeline[/name_f], which is the appeal of the name. She could be [name_f]Ada[/name_f], [name_f]Addie[/name_f], [name_f]Adele[/name_f], [name_u]Dell[/name_u]…she’ll have so much to choose from when she’s an adult and can mix it up as she gets older. My name, [name_f]Angela[/name_f], has the same benefit. I’ve had the choice of [name_u]Ange[/name_u], [name_u]Angie[/name_u] and [name_f]Angela[/name_f], depending on my mood. If your [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] is anything like what I expect our little girl to be, she’ll enjoy having lots of options
My husband and I are also considering using [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] as the name for our baby girl. It’s the top of our list! He loves the nickname [name_f]Addie[/name_f], whereas I have a preference for [name_f]Ada[/name_f]. I think it’s so sweet and makes the perfect nickname. I also would pronounce [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] “[name_m]Add[/name_m]-ah-line” and would say [name_f]Ada[/name_f] “Ay-dah”. I think you could pronounce it “[name_m]Add[/name_m]-a” as well if you wanted to. People will pick up on what you call her pretty quickly, so the pronunciation can really be whatever you like. As for middle names, we are considering [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] (common, I know, but I think it would team with the more “unusual” [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] quite nicely) or [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] (seeing as our daughter is due in February and violet is the flower of this month). Have you had your baby yet and if so, what did you call him/her?
[name_f]Ada[/name_f] is pronounced “ay-dah”, so if you wanted the “add-uh” pronunciation, I would spell it [name_f]Adda[/name_f]. However, I dislike that, I much prefer [name_f]Ada[/name_f] pronounced properly - I think that would still work with [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]. Personally, I prefer [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] nn. [name_f]Ada[/name_f], but [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] is quite pretty.
