I am new to these forums, but a long time fan of the “beyond” name books. We just found out we have been chosen to adopt a baby boy. He is due next week! If all goes well, he will be our third son.
We need a name for a brother to [name]Gabe[/name] and [name]Dexter[/name]. Our last name is [name]Fulton[/name], so though I like a lot of names with the “n” sound at the end, I don’t think the rhythm sounds so great.

Congratulations! [name]How[/name] extremely excited you must be! I [name]LOVE[/name] your sons’ names, [name]Dexter[/name] is one of my absolute favorites! Your favorites are a lot of my favorites, too.
[name]Quincy[/name]- I do think [name]Quinn[/name] will go to the girls, I like [name]Quincy[/name] though, and [name]Quintin[/name].

What exciting news! I love so many of the names you’re considering, and like you, don’t think first names ending in N work well with your last name.
[name]Quincy[/name]: I actually know a little girl named [name]Quincy[/name], and agree that [name]Quinn[/name] is crossing to the girls’ side. What about using it as a middle name?
[name]Oliver[/name]: [name]Oliver[/name] is one of my favorite names, but I don’t think [name]Oliver[/name] [name]Fulton[/name] sounds that great, because the V and F sounds clash.
[name]Mack[/name]: Like [name]Lyndsay[/name], I think it’s a cool name, but I don’t care for it on its own. What about [name]Cormac[/name], [name]Macaulay[/name], or MacNeil?

Guys these are awesome choices! While I’m sure the the politically correct world, it shouldn’t make a difference, but I will tell you that the baby is [name]African[/name] American. We are white. I want a name that won’t be the same as all the other kids in his class, but not too far out there as he will already be the black kid in the white family ([name]Gabe[/name] is our biological son and [name]Dexter[/name] is adopted, he’s biracial). You all have given me some great ideas that really work. Can’t wait to come back and post when/if it all works out and he has a name!

Considering that your adopted baby is [name]African[/name] American, I would change some of my ideas. The last thing you want is a country name, and a lot of the names on my former list sounded kind of country, so I made my list more sophisticated:
[name]Quincy[/name] - not that great because it is going to be a girl’s name.
[name]Oliver[/name] - I’m not sure that this would go over. Maybe.

I think [name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Leo[/name] would both be perfect with [name]Gabe[/name] and [name]Dexter[/name], and I can see both on a little [name]African[/name] American boy, as well as on an adult. I believe that someone suggested [name]Oscar[/name], too, which I also think would be wonderful! [name]Hugo[/name] is nice, too. I also think [name]Jasper[/name] (one of my sons’ names, so of course I am biased) would be perfect.

For names that end in ‘n’ it’s best if they have 3 syllables. [name]Harrison[/name] [name]Fulton[/name] doesn’t sound as awkward as [name]Deacon[/name] [name]Fulton[/name] to me.

I also really love the name Macklin… so much so I named my dog it (he is my baby… he just happens to have 4 legs and fur ;)) I read the book by [name]Lee[/name] and [name]Bob[/name] Woodruff (In An Instant) and they have a son named Macklin… I’ve loved it ever since.
What about using it as a middle name?
