Dear Mr. and Mrs. Williams-Parker,
We have reviewed your application and matched your family with four children, we are confident that you will be able to give each of them and their specific challenges the attention and care that they require. Starting off with the oldest two we’ve matched you with is [name_f]Emma[/name_f] [name_f]Adele[/name_f] and [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] [name_m]Mathis[/name_m], a set of 17-year-old b/g twins from Québec, [name_f]Canada[/name_f] who are two months from aging out of our system. They’ve been in our system since they were five years old following their father’s arrest for their mother’s murder. They’ve bounced around between placements for their entire lives but have had trouble staying in one home due to their somewhat ‘aversive’ characteristics. [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] has already accumulated an arrest record, primarily for charges relating to arson. After working with a therapist he’s thankfully been out of trouble for the past several months but is still prone to impulsive behavior and aggression. [name_f]Emma[/name_f] has also had her issues, though her particular personal problems are related to drug abuse. At the moment she is proudly six months sober. It’s important for me to mention the exact timeline of her sobriety as her choice to get sober was made after she discovered she was pregnant. [name_f]Emma[/name_f] is currently seven months pregnant with a baby boy and due in [name_u]March[/name_u], but given her drug use she’s at risk for early delivery so we encourage you to prepare your home for the arrival of a newborn as soon as possible. Both [name_f]Emma[/name_f] and [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] primarily speak [name_u]French[/name_u], though [name_f]Emma[/name_f] is semi-fluent in [name_f]English[/name_f].
The third child we are placing with you is [name_m]Carlos[/name_m] [name_m]Antonio[/name_m], a 16-year-old from [name_m]Acre[/name_m], [name_u]Brazil[/name_u]. When he was three years old his parents perished in a flash flood. He was then taken in by his aunt but was returned to our system last year following his aunt’s marriage. [name_m]Carlos[/name_m] suffers from both acute depression and requires higher levels of supervision at the moment due to some recent instances of risky behaviors. Despite his subdued appearance he is a bright child who enjoys the arts. We encourage you to attempt to bond with him over this subject. Like [name_f]Emma[/name_f] and [name_m]Lucas[/name_m], he is bilingual, but shows a slight preference for Spanish.
The final child we are placing with you is [name_f]Inessa[/name_f] [name_f]Petrovna[/name_f] , a 15-year-old from Russian. She was surrendered for unknown reasons as a baby. The orphanage she grew up in sadly collapsed due to structural issues a few months ago, resulting in the deaths of several workers and children. Inessa’s left leg was paralyzed from the knee down as a result of the collapse. She is still able to walk with the help of a leg brace and sometimes a cane or walker. She does not struggle too terribly with her mobility, but we encourage you to make some accessibility accommodations throughout your home. Like [name_m]Carlos[/name_m], she suffers PTSD from this event and sometimes struggles with being indoors or sleeping in the dark, though she takes comfort in carrying around her childhood teddy bear. DO NOT under any circumstances attempt to separate the bear from [name_f]Inessa[/name_f] . At her previous placement her foster mom attempted to take the bear to clean it for her, but the separation anxiety was so bad that it triggered a panic attack requiring hospitalization. Her first language is of course Russian, but she has picked up [name_f]English[/name_f] quickly and now seems to prefer speaking [name_f]English[/name_f]. Our therapists believe this is part of her attempt to move on from the traumas she suffered previously.
All of these children have struggled with finding a placement despite our continuous efforts, we were so grateful to come across your application and we believe that your family will be the home that these children have bene looking for. The four of them have also had time to bond with one another after spending some time together in one of our group homes, they’ve become quite close friends so in addition to your support will now have each other. We will be placing you in contact with a recommended therapist for each child, an OB/GYN for [name_f]Emma[/name_f], an art therapist for [name_m]Carlos[/name_m], and physical and occupational therapists for [name_f]Inessa[/name_f]. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me or the agency.
Regards,
Elixane Ortiz, Case Worker #2856
